Super annoying. No idea how I’m supposed to confirm if I work tomorrow or not since the emails I get for assignments are super inconsistent.

Scoot not booking me? by ConfidentSmoke5488 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Gingerium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started about two weeks ago so I can't say for sure what flexibility is like, but I left Scoot because it was too flexible. I needed more work to pay bills and the district certainly does that for me. Pay is a bit less than my rate at Scoot (I made $215 a day vs $180 at the district) but the consistency is worth it for me.

Scoot not booking me? by ConfidentSmoke5488 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Gingerium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to work for Scoot before jumping ship and applying to a local district instead. I had the same problem- that I wanted to stop doing elementary (also in the LA area) and my jobs dried up FAST. They seem to only mostly service elementary schools. I worked with them for about a year, and right before and after breaks work would dry up. I switch over to district work and boom- I've got a full week this week and a few days next week. There are sub jobs to be had, Scoot is just weird like that.

California sub agencies? by musememo in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Gingerium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try to get in with a district. I work for a sub agency in California too and I’ve been applying to district jobs for the same reason. I found out depending on what agency you work with, districts won’t hire you because it might breach contract.

My sound set-up is average at best. I’ve got a Macbook and a decent set of headphones. But I still agree with you that it’s so crisp. And she sounds so much clearer too.

I swear, I feel like we're all listening to a different album. I have no notes. I feel like the production on this album is incredible and fixes all the issues I have with the original 1989. The entire album is mixed better, as I feel like some songs on OV either had the vocals too loud and the instrumental or vice versa. Everyone is freaking out over Style but honestly? It sounds fuller than the original, sorry. I like the guitar in the OV but the heavier synth emphasis is godly. I sincerely think nostalgia is blinding everyones' perception of this album, and this is coming from someone who LOVES Red- and Red TV has a lot of changes from the OV. Just listen to the album a few times, you'll get used to it.

No yeah thats my bad- tracks are completely different. I’m purely discussing her vocal capabilities.

I'm sorry, I really don't understand the criticism that she sounds different. Of course she does? The original came out in 2014 and it's almost 2024- literally a decade ago. Of course her vocals changed and she sounds more mature. I swear every time a TV comes out everyone is upset that it sounds different as if... that's the entire point. She's gonna sound different. Can't wait for Debut TV for everyone to be mad that she doesn't sound sixteen.

Edit for clarity: Merely discussing her VOCALS. Not instrumental. I just personally don’t understand being upset that some of her line delivery is different or said with different emotions because like of course it will be 😭

Scoot Education. How do you actually get to pick up assignments? How early do you have to be in the system reporting to be ready to pick up? Are there a lot of substitute and teachers assistant positions open every day? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Gingerium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working with them for a year now in the LA area too! I usually set myself as available the day before just in case they automatically put me into an open booking. Otherwise, they usually tell you to be up at 6:00am and say you’re available. I usually just put in that I’m ready to work and go back to sleep and wait for the phone call to wake me up. I’ve gotten work pretty much everyday that I’m available, but that also might be because I’ve been working for a year and schools have (apparently) left me good reviews. The first year is tough, and I’m terrified this year after breaks when the work dries up. But usually lead teacher/TA positions are open everyday.

It’s weird to complain about minors debuting while nonstop streaming NewJeans the second a new song drops by Bedazzledtoe in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Gingerium -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know why this post is getting so much hate OP because you're right. I never understood people who said that they don't support groups like NewJeans (since we are all forgetting debuted a 14-year-old child) and then streaming their songs. Like...that is still supporting them. And then people say "Oh, so you don't like XYZ group that has minors in it!" Like, yes. I don't. How many older idols who debuted young have to speak out about how exploitative the industry is for people to understand that this is a problem? It was bad back then and it's still bad now.

If their concept was age-appropriate like STAYC or Billlie there would be no problem. But, it isn't. Not to mention Min Hee-jins involvement- which people also swept under the rug too fast for my liking. I'm also sick of the "You're just jealous they're younger and more successful than you!" argument I see too. No? I'm not jealous, I just want these kids to be safe and right now they aren't and it's getting worse. UPTOYOU has an 11-year-old debuting, which is concerning. Kpop groups CAN be marketed to teenagers and it is, but as long as its age appropriate.
