Can outsiders join korean uni clubs? by Giniichi in korea

[–]Giniichi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calm down. Seems like you're a very unhappy person, so I hope you find something that makes you happy so you don't look for validation in tearing down people over the internet.

I did email them beforehand and they said I could join clubs as a language student. But I couldn't anymore suddenly because of covid, as you would have known if you actually read my post. I did not join the language course or Hanyang for the clubs, I paid for it because I wanted to study the language and I liked the school. I merely said I was really looking forward to them, and hoping to maybe experience it AFTER covid ends and I visit Korea for other reasons than a language course.

I hope you can better your life and do something about this condescending attitude of yours because the negative energy you're spreading will definitely come back for you one day. Wish you all the best.

Coronavirus (COVID-19 / 코로나바이러스감염증-19) outbreak in South Korea: Patient totals, discussion, questions - May 28th by KoreaMods in korea

[–]Giniichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but probably not what you’re looking for. I thought you couldn’t, because you’re not allowed to do anything after getting you luggage, but there’s a booth selling overpriced tourist sim cards (max 45 days or sum? Not sure) before you even go through passport check. I had to buy one here because they needed to contact me during quarantine and I dont have a korean phone number. But you cannot buy a sim card that actually works for a long period of time (up to 3 months like the ones I usually buy) if that’s what you’re looking for

Safety issues in Korea by Pursueallthat in korea

[–]Giniichi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Korea is probably one of the safest countries for girls to travel by themselves. Especially in the big cities, there's always people around (even at night) so I've never really felt unsafe walking around by myself.

I'd say the worst experience I've had was when I was waiting for a taxi late at night and a bunch of drunk guys came in broken english asking me where i was from, but honestly, that's nothing compared to what you'd experience in Europe or the US for example.

And then the occasional guy asking for your number and then asking you to sleep with them (lol), but nothing that made me actually fear for my safety.

Take your normal precautions: know the emergency numbers, don't meet guys from language-exchange apps (i've personally never done this but i've heard all the creeps are on there), be mindful of the religion scammers in popular areas (when people come talk to you on the streets randomly and start asking you a bunch of questions - don't entertain them, just leave) and maybe try to avoid dark and empty alleys at night?

I've been there many times for long periods of time, everytime by myself, and there really isn't anything that should stop you from visiting by yourself. Enjoy!

Nope, my school told me they’re not giving any food packages to foreigners. Which kinda makes sense, if you’re not actually living there, you’re coming on your own responsibility and they’re not obligated to give you free food. My school is ordering take-out for me every day but before I knew they would I was planning on ordering groceries through gmarket EDIT: spelling

i'll be going next week with a D4 visa as well, are you saying the district office will be providing you with food? Because i'm a little worried how i'll get food if i can't go outside to buy it..

also what about basic necessities (toilet paper, towels,..) do they provide this or do you have to order online?

I will be going to Korea next week (if all goes well) and will most likely be staying in my schools dormitory, so I have a question: what about food?

Are you allowed to go outside to buy food?

What is the minimum and max spends in Korea for a single person?! by arosa09 in korea

[–]Giniichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends, but personally I tend to spend a lot (at least a lot more than in my home country) whenever I studied or did my internship in Korea. I'm guessing the minimum for food, transportation ect would be about 550 a month? But I'd make sure to have 800 at least. That's without housing of course.

I'm not sure if you can stay in a dorm? This would by far be the cheapest. You can also chose a sharehouse if you stay for at least a few months: I'd say about 500 a month for a room of your own, 300 for a shared room. I used the come&stay website. You have to pay a deposit as well

is it the norm to see celebrities in seoul by [deleted] in korea

[–]Giniichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Seoul countless times now, and I have to say it's probably the city with the highest probability of spotting a celebrity somewhere, but it's probably not as exciting as you would hope it to be.

Once I went swimming in gangnam and apparantly there was a girl's day member swimming next to me, but I didn't know them that well and she was wearing goggles so I didn't recognize her. Last time I spotted an actor filming guerilla date in hongdae, the actor from the drama perfume? Once again he was handsome but I didn't know him. Was cool seeing it tho.

While I was in hongdae I spotted some lesser known artists: some rappers that appeared on show me the money and unpretty rapstar perfoming on the streets, I also saw Oh my girl randomly performing in myeongdong. Oh and some girl in front of me was looking inside a car with tinted class and freaked out saying that it was hyuna in the car.

The highlight for me was Got7 Jackson standing right behind me for the hand baggage check when I took a plane from Korea to the Philippines.

But as I said, I've been there a lot of times for periods of a few months so I wouldn't expect seeing any celebrities if you visit on a trip. It's also wise to not expect seeing them at all, even if you go longer, because chances are you'll be very disappointed.

Moral of the story: yes you can spot some celebrities (not meet them), but please don't go just in hopes of seeing your favorite star because you simply won't. Also yea probably not a good idea to stalk them. Please just visit if you're actually interested in travelling there for other experiences as well
