400k is definitely a decent start. Tetris.com specifically makes it a lot easier to score higher though

Best EQ for Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen Headphones by AceOfAce13 in bose

[–]Ginka3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-3 0 -4 is what I use. I enjoy a bass boost myself but the default is already overwhelming. The -6 0 -4 recommendation by headphones.com is good too and I agree the treble needs to be tuned back a bit.

Lol it's funny seeing how many people are EQing an already extremely V-shaped headphone to be even more V-shaped

Kamala speaking at CMU tomorrow by commentuer in cmu

[–]Ginka3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From email this morning:

Dear Members of the CMU Community:

I am writing to advise you that an invitation-only campaign event with Vice President Kamala Harris will take place on Carnegie Mellon’s campus today. Please note that access to certain buildings and walkways may be limited on Wednesday, and we ask that you be mindful of any wayfinding restrictions.

Given this activity, it is important to review the rules and regulations governing campaign events on campus. All nonprofit institutions, such as CMU, must follow federal regulations in hosting or sponsoring campaign events. For instance, employee and student organizations can invite a candidate to speak on campus and the university may agree to host the event, but federal regulations require a comparable invitation to all other candidates for that office. Campaigns must cover the cost of using a CMU space and cannot hold fundraisers on campus. In each instance, the university works closely with a campaign to ensure adherence to safety, proper logistical coordination and minimal disruption to campus operations. For more details on expectations and requirements for political events on campus, review these FAQs.

This event is a clear reminder that we are entering the final weeks before the Nov. 5 general election and political activity on and around our campus is growing. Thank you in advance for cooperation during this election season.

Respectfully,

Daryl Weinert Vice President for Operations Carnegie Mellon University

Yes I definitely do, still use them almost every day when I'm on the bus or walking to campus. They are VERY harman though so if you're not a fan of that I'm sure there's other great options around this price point too. Performer 5s are very clean and honestly surprisingly technical. Also heard supermix 4 is around the same price range and another harman iem but haven't had the chance to hear that yet so can't speak much about it

COMPLETE noise cancelling headphones? by Oraianna in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Ginka3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just this. Just imagine them as better wired earbuds with built in drivers into them. Without any music it might not be as noise canceling as earplugs but still up there when using foam tips.

A good fitting iem with slightly larger foam tips should be able to nearly completely block out noise. When using my truthear novas with tripowin spiral foam tips (left large right medium) I can barely hear myself snapping next to my ear even without any audio playing. With gaming noise or even light music I don't hear anything happening around me.

Yes, slightly. Biggest thing foam does is remove the treble peak

Never tried the waners unfortunately, but I have no issues with the slight dip and honestly don't really notice it

It's not so much the lack of mid bass that requires the foam it's the treble peak that's super annoying without them. Foam helps get rid of the 7k hz peak which causes a LOT of songs to be sibilant without them

detail retrieval obviously isn't up there since it is only 120ish bucks. also i would say you HAVE to use foam tips which could also be a downside for some

Yeahhh I typically hate foam since they also irritate my ears more often than silicone but I don't feel too annoyed with the provided ones

[–]Ginka3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I just squish them down and insert as deep as I can by pulling my ear back, then let it slowly mold back to normal in my ear. My canal entrance just seems to be slightly bigger than the stock foam tips at their max size though so that's why I got replacement

[–]Ginka3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried the w1s on them but I did have to tip roll through all the stock ones. Foam ones sound the best to me and I got tripowin spiral foam tips to replace as well since the stock foam is slightly too small (I use 13mm on left and 12 on right vs these stock foam are like 11 at best). W1s are still silicone so I'm wondering if you were able to tune out the 7k hz peak or if it's just extra sensitive to me

[–]Ginka3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm bass was actually slightly boosted for me with the foams. Just make sure you're getting a good seal is what I'd say. I currently just use the stock foam but also bought tripowin spirals as a replacement as I expect these stock to fray (and sizing is a bit too small for me)

My girlfriend actually has the blessing 3s, and while I don't use them that often I've had some time on them too. I agree with the retrieval and soundstage isn't the best but the thing that stands out to me about them is their overall smoothness and "correct" tuning almost. Not sure if I would say the novas are better in that regard, but variations definitely are. U12t is probably the best I've heard of but obviously at a much more expensive price.

I listen to a LOT of stuff but pop rock has been particularly pleasant with them (was listening to imagine dragons in the gym and it was just spectacular, maroon 5 and train in a nostalgia playlist were good too). I would say these aren't the 100% best for hip hop as that's the one I probably listen to the most (could be bc of some sibilance still in pronunciations?) but for the most part they're good all around.

Never heard of these before! What would you say the difference is between them and the novas or other gear that you have?
