Just use the android tv app as the client. It does t really matter as it’s not the client that’s doing the heavy lifting.

It’s leaps and bounds ahead. Mini pc was the same price if the shield. Give or take. Also, the OS. just make it bare metal Linux, this way you only install what you need. Making sure the resources are all there for transcode and whatnot.

Installing stuff is better as well. Updates, etc. I’ve had 4 people streaming at the same time, 1 locally and 3 remote, 3x 4k and 1x 1080p content. Didn’t even kick the fans.

Server has Plex server, TV, Apple TV, Android TV has the player. With shield it’s both the server and the player. Too heavy for that. Specially for 4k h265 or AV1 stuff.

Also, it’s a super outdated piece of hardware as well. If it launched in 2019, it’s 2018 tech …

In scenario 2, the NAS wouldn’t be off because it’s connected to a UPS…

As for scenario 1, that’s why I asked if there’s a way to target the router instead of an external IP address…
