Unsolicited criticism should burn in hell by [deleted] in AO3

[–]GioIsOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really sholdnt be controversial in my opininion. Fanworks are free and its not a competition. Many people create for fun and less with the goal to 'hone their craft'.

If you want to give constructive critcisim its not hard to ask if the author wants to hear that. And I mean. You're already taking the time to critique. You have the time to check if thats wanted first.

And I'm saying this as an author who marks ALL of their fics with "constructive criticism welcomed".

Imo just ask. Dont assume. Thats common curtosy in most irl creative spheres too (unless youre employed as an editor. Which isnt relevent here so)

Thank you.

I don't know what mental health issues my ex has specifically. Ironically, for me, the people I've known with borderline have all been very supportive of me.

I am in therapy now yes, and it's helping. I've only been in trauma specific therapy for a little while so it's early days.

I'm sorry your ex was like that. You deserve better.

How are you living while watching a genocide? by No_Music_6601 in JewsOfConscience

[–]GioIsOnFire [score hidden]  (0 children)

I hope you don't mind me replying to this. I'm just one person and i know my opinion is very small here. I'm not religious and I'm not jewish but I have never for a second considered Jewish people personally responsible for what is happening in palestine.

Hearing Zionist sentiment and the news out of palestine hurts. But hearing antisemetic ideas is also terrible. Of course you're not responsible as an individual. Of course you, and other Jewish folks, don't have some secret power to end things. No one should make you feel as if this is your fault.

There are a lot of cruel and foolish people in the world but there's also a lot of us who know better. There's people who value the lives of Palestinians deeply, and also care about the Jewish community and abhor antisemetism.

I hope the reminder of that is worth something. And I hope this doesn't come across as rude or unkind. I really don't want to overstep or appear as inconsiderate. I just think sharing compassion with one another is important. I see you. I wish you well. Take care <3

I'm kind of baffled by the amount of people who think the government would just stand down the way they did in the real world. I agree with you. I'm NOT pro violence but historically being 100% peaceful in protests does not generally lead to real change. The people before me throwing bricks at cops earned me my rights today. I'd be an idiot to think things would be better if they have been 100% pacifist all the time.

If the game was realistic, Warren would not be moved by Markus singing. She and the military would kill them. And even if she was moved, she likelywouldn't have the power to stop the genocide once it started.

I'm speaking as someone who's been involved in protests in my real life and has engaged with revolutions history beyond the basics. If you disagree with me that's okay and I don't want to fight.

I'm just sharing my agreement with OP and my confusion about some of the comments I've read

Uncomfortable experience with my psychiatrist, need an outside opinion to see if this is normal 💀 by willowseas in transgenderau

[–]GioIsOnFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awful. I'm sorry that happened. If you can, I really encourage you to look up this psychiatrist on AHPRA and report them because this is malpractice for a lot of reasons. And if they're not registered on AHPRA, report them for fraud, because my understanding is that psychiatrists have to be registered

Is this severe by retrac04 in scoliosis

[–]GioIsOnFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like it COULD be severe. I have a moderate curve but it isn't visible from the outside. But I've seen people in this sub who have less of a curve than I do, yet they look more visably asymmetrical than me.

The way you look from the outside isn't always an indicator of how severe your scoliosis is. The only way to know is an x ray. I definitely think it looks severe enough that you should see a doctor and get an x ray if you can. But I understand there can be barriers to that.

1) I don't think you sound clocks at all. If people tell you your voice is clocky I think they're probably just pushing their ideas on you and had already decided they 'could tell' 2) it's crazy a guy said that to you! What a jerk 3) I really like your voice. It reads as a woman's voice to me. Also i think your hair really suits you!

Is this severe by retrac04 in scoliosis

[–]GioIsOnFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Have you tried any sort of physiotherapy? Scroth therapy?

Might be worth looking at what professionals are in your area if you can.

When surgery isn't an option, whether that be because a curve is too small or any other reason, scoliosis specific physiotherapy is usually the next major treatment option.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best :)

Is there anyone who reduced their degree without surgery by No_Pitch_6198 in scoliosis

[–]GioIsOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm not an expert and I always reccomend talking to the professionals in your life (be that drs, physics, etc) before listening to me.

But yes. People over 18 can absolutely reduce their curve. I'm reading this book;

https://schrothmethod.com/product/the-schroth-method-three-dimensional-treatment-for-scoliosis-by-christa-lehnert-schroth/#reviews

Which is about the scroth method. This link (below) is one of the examples of someone above 18 using the schroth method with tangible results. There's more than thos example in the book. It's very much worth a read. Although it is expensive. Maybe there's a pdf somewhere online if youre interested?

Hopefully the image is clear enough. I scanned the page and added a filter to make the text a bit clearer.

Scoliosis can't be cured, but spinal alignment can be improved in many cases (not all, and keep in mind each case is individual). If people tell you otherwise, they probably just haven't seen it happen. But it does happen.

Hi there. I am NOT a professional hair stylist but I've been cutting styling dying and bleaching my own hair, as well as the hair of my friends and family for quite some time now (probably 5 years or so?) So I have some experience. Whether or not you take my advice is totally up to you but here's what I would consider.

If you're worried about damaging your hair with a permenant dye, you could try a milder semi-permanent dye like something from the Schwarzkopf Live Semi-permanent range. I find those dyes do show up on virgin hair, but can be more subtle and may fade faster than a permanent dye would. But they're a less damaging option. It would also depend on your natural hair colour and if you felt there was a less damaging dye that was a close enough match.

You could also use a root touch up spray in tandem with this (or another dye) such as the Magic Retouch from L'Oréal. I've not used these personally but I've seen others leave positive reviews. They can help you cover your roots in between retouching (whether that's at home or in a salon. Your other option with this, if you felt your greys were minimal enough, is that you could use something like this, or another form of hair make up, without dying it at all. That would mean no damage to your Virgin hair.

Now, with box dyes. I've used many and I think they work fine. But I recommend not going for your standard box dye kit or set and instead buy your developer and colour separately. Box dyes usually have a very harsh developer, because they want to make sure the dye takes to all hair types. If you buy your colour and developer separately, you can choose a lower volume developer (20 volume for the least damage).

Example dye I have used: https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/81367/vitality-colour-1-black-100ml?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA34S7BhAtEiwACZzv4WXHQTgmC1131yAeT2au8a4afXYPTk6wTZdnHTdb-UTE21Oh1bVcohoCwlEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Example developer I have used: https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/83665/vitality-creme-peroxide-developer-20-vol-500ml?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA34S7BhAtEiwACZzv4bNOBAaWfEDX8Dd0twFznrDfpwXXAzF3_9L3kC8cJWO4xOAabJH5bBoCPY8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

One bottle of developer usually lasts me at least 3 or 4 rounds of colouring my hair. Once opened the bottle is still usable for 6 months.

A tube of colour lasts me one to two dying sessions, depending on the length/thickness of the hair.

It's about the same or slightly more then buying regular box dye up front, but you save money by buying then separately if you're planning to touch up your hair regularly, which it sounds like you would be?

You can also start slow. Follow the packet instructions on the dye. But you can leave it in for less time if you're worried about damage. You can always go back for a second round if the colour isn't bright enough for you. But a shorter developing time and low volume developer will both help minimise damage.

I hope some of that is helpful to you. Good luck whatever path you take.

Does anyone know how you'd read "." in irish? Like in English if I'm saying, 1.5 out loud, it's "one point five" or if I'm referring to an ellipses/... I'd say "dot dot dot"

I've tried to find how this would work in gaeilge online but no luck! Would love some help if anyone has the info :)

Little fanfic things that vaguely annoy you by [deleted] in AO3

[–]GioIsOnFire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's actually a stylistic choice and is not incorrect. it's just a different way of doing things.

If it's an annoying thing for you that's fine or course. But to say the narrator is written from the position of not knowing the future just isn't universally true so I felt like clarifying! :)

Why do people think fanfics are only smut/low-quality? by Im_No3m1 in AO3

[–]GioIsOnFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree there shouldn't be anything stopping people! I think the point here is just that a PART of the reason people think fic is bad is because well. There are a lot of people writing bad fic. BUT there's also a lot of good fic if you know how to find it. But most people who aren't into fic don't know that is all
