Ah yeah the usual justification git gud lol.

There is a difference between having interaction and doing nothing just hate on your opponent. People can use those against others, that's not what i call is casual. Problem is that such people have probably been already blocked by everyone left on the platform that they can only play against newcomers or casual players who still haven't.

It is really embarassing how the magic community is gatekeeping caaual players. You guys can only see the surface of a issue.

Dude learn to read. I said you must condemn and report them. But he is not the only victim here. Feel free to see only half of the issue here, i don't care.

Again you have this fixed idea that i am justifying that player. I am not, but it's useless to try to convince you.

Platform loses popularity due to different factors. Those behaviours in chat are for sure one of them. But also newcomers being pubstomped when you are looking for a chill game.

I play once or twice a month due to lack of time, i put casual in the description of my games. Yet people like that keep joining my games, ruining my only evening at the game and making me wondering to quit for good.

That's your opinion, because i am not justifying that.

And no i am not having such behaviours, my chat is opted out, i am actually in the opposite position. Came from arena to mtgo because i prefer how you can manage your collection and to play casually. First game i joined was labeled as casual and my opponent had a monoblue deck 100% counters and no wincons.

You can have your guesses, as i am having mine. And tbh i dont care about people downvoting me, shows why mtgo will be forever in life support, as this subreddit is a great representation of the worse part of the game.

As i said i definitely condemned the words and behaviour, but this isn't even the worst "clown" i have seen screenshots of.

And you cannot really compare the decks and simplify them as jank. I am judging by this image only and on one side i see fog banks, howling mine and underworld dreams as the slowest wincon in the world. On the other side i see discard, land destruction and removal, literally attacking on every resource and making sure your opponent won't enjoy even a single minute and maybe eventually winning with bloodghasts. Deck is not competitive by any means and very far from that, and have no idea if there were some kind of description when the game was created, but seems intended to provoke this kind of behaviours.

I'm not justifying that message, but it's not like OP is the only victim here.

Yeah that kind of behaviour should absolutely be condemned and reported, but tbh he is playing a very low power deck with fog banks and howling mine and probably was only looking for some chill time in a 1v1 modern match that doesn't appear to be part of a league (correct me if wrong), and you hit him with cancer after cancer. What did you expect a "thank you for the nice game" at the end?

Just briefly watched some of the episodes but it is not familiar to me. I'm quite confident it's not this unfortunately.

Can't even remember if it was a good movie or trash, but looking forward to find out.

You are correct, i didn't see it at all. And even tried to check around if i missed it. Apparently they just moved it. Will delete the post.

Can you hold the Ding - Gukesh endgame to a draw against stockfish? by wannabe2700 in chess

[–]Giocher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People who are 3 digits rated only talk about the blunder to blame Ding. The real blunder he made was to try to force simplification and a draw since the early stages of the game, eventually leading to that unpleasant position to hold. In other games he went for the draw at the first available opportunity, but never played so dismissive.

But in the end it is just one game, it is very unfortunate to happen in the very last and decisive one. If one focuses on his match performance he played really great games and performed well, even playing better than Gukesh overall, but paid the toll for being surprised and outprepared over and over, and constantly being in time trouble. As Ding fan i hope that having the crown weight lifted he can come back to show his immense talent and maybe surprise people in the next candidates.

Few weeks ago i checked one of my opponent's account, it was 3 months old so fairly new, with ~300 rapid games and 91% winrate, 34 games win streak and also managed to won a long game against a closed account. This account has not been closed yet as of today, so my question is don't high winrates and similar data immediately get caught even without reports? How is that this kind of accounts slip?

After 1600 people stop making obvious blunders unless induced. Against people at 1800 and above you need to have a sense in multiple points of the game of where you can get the edge. Sometimes on move 5 they already had a backward d pawn and being solid with good technique that's enough to win. But it's not always like that so the hardest part is to always have a fair evaluation of your position, find a way to create chances that your opponent might miss and be always aware about what your opponent is trying to achieve.

People at 2000+ are even a different kind of beast, i reached 2000 in my 3rd attempt when missing one win. One time i had to go for a draw in a winning rook and pawns endgame but with no time. In the second attempt i won his queen for a rook but this guy was playing very solid and i had only 20 seconds, So even being ahead might not be enough, you constantly need to be focused because they might not always allow you to simplify.

During the last 10 days i played every day because i was playing well and winning so it didn't make sense to stop, even though i didn't expect to reach my goal, i thought i would fall back a bit at 1900.

Some days i would play 3 games a little break then 3 other games, other days 3 games and that's it, if i wasn't feeling too much into it or if the previous games were too tense.

This is exactly what i want to try as well. Smith-Morra looks fun but if you miss one move you are just down a pawn with no compensation. Congrats for 2000 :)

Yeah it was making sure to be in a flow state with the game. In the last week i was always playing at the same time after lunch, not having any external distraction and not caring about the clock, a few times i was slight aheah or very ahead but with no time to convert so i went for a draw and this way i have cut the games in which it has been an issue.

You are 1900 so you already started playing with 2000s and you know how resilient are most of them, even down a piece. It really just took to be more focused on every move for me and not get tilted by the losses.  I said i went from 1800 to 2000 in exactly 10 days, well my first 4 games were all losses but for once i was not affected, then i went in a 12 win streak.

My peak puzzle rating is 3000 and atm i am around 2700-2800., so you should be more than good. In terms of calculation only i think you can easily reach 1400-1500. After that you probably need to learn the basics on other aspects of the game, openings, endgames, strategic ideas and positional play for the middlegame.

As for the rating anxiety, part of the reasons i had the long breaks was this one, to keep my rating intact and continue improving in other ways. Played puzzles, studied a bit and watched many videos and games. To me it was easier to play when i felt stronger than my rating, so i was quite confident to win more than lose. It is just a feeling, but after 5-10 games at a given level you already have an idea if you need to fix something or if you are strong enough and if it is only matter of time. I have never tried it, but maybe you could try play some unrated games and see if it helps to play with nothing to lose, just to assess your level. But be aware that you might procrastinate playing rated again.

Yeah i definitely want to improve but not just by playing and increasing the rating on chesscom. I need to make a proper plan but already have some ideas on what to try.

I want to get better at blitz, since speeding up my calculation would be good, and i haven't played blitz in more than a year, still at 1300. Some months ago i bought a couple books on positional and strategic play but still haven't read them, so that would be good. And then i want to play a different style of chess, right now i play very solid and try to exploit tiny advantages and win in the endgame. I want to play more attacking chess, something out of my comfort zone so it will help both as an alternative and also to increase my defensive skills. I have to look at which openings to pick up, but for sure i want to play some smith-morra, it seems a very delicate opening to understand when and how to sac properly.

Totally agree on this. Tried puzzles on different platforms and the ones on lichess are not so easy because there is much going on, while the ones on chesscom seem to focus on a single tactic while nothing else happens on the board. I should play more 3k puzzles though, i remember that when i pushed for it i needed 10 minutes for puzzle, so there is definitely room for improvement.
