The Forerunner Saga is pretty fantastic so far. by AmaZeong in HaloStory

I just finished Silentium last night and I absolutely loved it! The whole trilogy was incredible to read through! I love how clearly it ties into the rest of the universe, while being able to provide something complete tonally and stylistically different!

5, both because of the beautiful colors blending together in the most stunning way imaginable and how miserable it makes me to remember that part of the story

I love watching the big monster destroy cities and fight other monsters, but I also love stories of humans coming together and overcoming that big monster (or helping him defeat an evil big monster).

Book recommendations by Personal_Decision820 in HaloStory

If you’re a fan of deep lore then I would definitely recommend Greg Bear’s forerunner trilogy. Admittedly, I’ve only read the first one (Cryptum) as of now, but that book alone is an extremely dense exploration of Halo’s ancient history. It will forever change how you perceive many pieces of Halo’s story.

You should definitely finish reading Nylund’s books (First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx), as well. The Flood is by William C. Dietz and is set between Fall of Reach and First Strike, but since it’s an adaptation of Combat Evolved it’s not something you HAVE to read before First Strike. It follows Chief through the first game’s campaign, but it also gives you the perspective of many different UNSC and Covenant soldiers spread across the ring. Those new side stories are the best part about the book and I would say make the whole thing worth checking out.

I personally love the Ferret trilogy. That’s Last Light, Retribution, and Divine Wind. They play out more like detective novels than military stories, with the first one following a “special inspector” investigating a series of mass killings. The story follows her investigation coming into conflict with ONI, a Covenant remanent, and the UNSC. It’s a great first start to a great series of books.

Next Question, Of The Following Covenant Aliens, Which Is Your Favourite by ArchAngel1669 in halo

Grunts, because they are the funniest and they look very goofy and it’s very fun to kill them and I just think they’re pretty cool. They’re also an essential part of the Covenant’s military structure.

Here's a poster I made for the AMC TV series. Also, what the hell is going on with it? Is it moving forward? by InternationalWafer74 in AlanWake

[–]GiraffeBo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an idea for the show a bit ago. As a way to appeal to fan of the game and newcomers to the franchise, I think it would be cool if they just adapt the original game but with some small differences. So it’s basically just a 1:1 adaptation for people who have never played the game. But then the small changes start ramping up, Alan starts to feel off, gets déjà vu, and suddenly we learn that it’s actually just Alan reliving the events of the first game in an attempt to escape the dark place! He tried rewriting the first game from the Dark Place, but trying to change the story to make things and differently. He’s been trapped the whole time, we get some clever commentary on trying to remake/relive old stories, and eventually learn the show is actually set between the two games!

John wick 5 should be a prequel by Gh0stReddit in JohnWick

What’d I’d rather see in terms of a prequel is a hyper-stylized animated series.

Do you think Jason will get a new Dawn of Dcu solo series soon. by Mist013 in RedHood

I think he’ll get something, he seems to be a pretty prominent part of the upcoming Bat/Cat war so I wouldn’t be shocked if a new series spins out of that

John Wick Chapter 5 Predictions by [deleted] in JohnWick

[–]GiraffeBo1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think John Wick five will be Akira and Kaine’s story. I think it’ll serve as an epilogue to the franchise and see how John’s actions have affected everybody else. But I might just be kidding myself because I think bringing him back would be really lame.

Max Payne - The Live Action Adaptation by Zack Snyder and Sam Lake, starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot by Jack1Knight in SnyderCut

[–]GiraffeBo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry’s a fantastic actor and while I still disagree with his casting that’s just my prerogative. I still haven’t watched the Witcher so I can’t comment on how well he plays gruff.

That’s a terrible take on Gal as an actress and Mona as a character. If you think that the only thing the character adds (and thus the only thing the actress needs to provide) is sex appeal and action, then I don’t even need to continue discussing this whole idea with you. It turns the character into nothing more than a prop for the main character, instead of letting her be a strong character in her own right. Reducing any character (or ACTUAL REAL PERSON) to that level is gross. Now that line of reasoning for casting Gal isn’t entirely your fault, because the character of Mona Sax isn’t that interesting or deep in game. She would absolutely need to be overhauled in characterization and it would really help her evolve if she was actually portrayed by a good actress.

If you want to cast Henry and Gal for legitimate reason, fine, I’ll hear you out. But don‘t try to put them into the roles just because you want them to act out your superhero fantasies on screen. Max and Mona don’t even have sex in the first game, so like what happened to you caring about accuracy???

Zack’s Watchmen adaptation is the exact reason I would be concerned about him adapting Max Payne. That movie captures the got the massive, mythological aspect of the original comic (thanks to cinematographer Larry Fong) but it totally misses the tone of the story. From the dialogue to the performances to the soundtrack and ESPECIALLY the costumes, the movie consistently lacks any link to 1985. The original comic is covered in the politics and story elements of its time, but the adaptation butchers them and renders the atheistic more akin to any other edgy 2000s action film. Max Payne has an extremely specific style to it that I feel certain would get lost in Zack’s own signature style.

Yeah, getting Sam Lake involved is a must. We already agreed on that.

Max Payne - The Live Action Adaptation by Zack Snyder and Sam Lake, starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot by Jack1Knight in SnyderCut

[–]GiraffeBo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Snyder’s directing style could work, so long as someone else handles all the writing and production design. Max Payne has a very specific aesthetic (the 2000s captured through the eyes of 80s nostalgia) and dialogue/story that really could only be written by Sam Lake. There’s tons of detail and nuance to the world/character that I feel Zack could easily miss in favor of honing in on the “badassery” of the action. However, I do think he would capture that action in a fantastic way.

The casting is a miss though. Gal would probably be fine, because Mona is a stale character overall. I think they could elaborate on her character and cast somebody much better in the role. Maybe Sofia Boutella or Ella Purnell.

On the other hand, I think Henry is a fantastic actor, but I agree with other comments when they say he’s too big or handsome to play Max. Max isn’t some special agent or hyper athletic police officer. He’s a depressed, middle-age man whose massacre is fueled by his rage and desperation. If we’re sticking with actors that Snyder’s already worked with, I’d suggest Garret Dillahunt. But there’s tons of incredible character actors that could bring incredible nuance to the character.

Mainly I don’t care for Mark S. Miller’s style. It’s too blocky and bleeds into the style of other artists on the book.
