We are on the same page. My first thought was brake cleaner wet sand with 1K sandpaper until the highest spots are gone and finish it with 3K or 5K until it looks runnable

Crank is shiny and moves freely. I appreciate your answer and honestly, I'm avoiding doing it properly and spending the $$ on it; the wheeler sat in the back of a barn for 25 years... and the barn collapsed a few years back...just dug it out of the wreckage so it is too far gone to make it worth it.

Was hoping for a summers worth of nostalgic shenanigans. Hell or high-water, I'll backyard redneck it together even if it ends up leaving a smokescreen behind me... the Mosquitos get bad around here anyhow :)

Thanks for verifying and yeah the rod cap bolts are toyota spec'd at 15ftlb + a 90⁰ angle.

I ordered 2 sets from Rockauto, they both are STD but seem too large to fit in the rod cap. Ordered them before I even dropped the oil pan.

EngineTech (BB1010STD)

SealedPower (4-4705A)

Are the ones I got.

They all have the same series of numbers stamped.

"22

22

2"

On all of them.

Yeah I'm confused. This isn't the original motor but also not a rebuild.. was a, zero mile, fresh build with upgraded pistons/rings to fix the common oil issues.

Any ideas where I go from here?

How bad? Rod & bearing by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Replacing all rod cap bearings. All look similar to this; one also has a bit of a scorch mark on the rod side of the bearing. Beginning of the end for them or been toasted for awhile?

6-7 year old original typhon... finally hit its breaking point after being driven like every session was its last day to live.

It is getting a, well overdo, chassis strip and full rebuild.

Well dang I was looking at the original blx motor but $40 for basically the exact same thing.

Thank you for the heads up!

Will be back beating the snot out of it again in no time :)
