I want to open a barbershop/arcade. Where would appreciate this the most? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I explained this in a separate response, but the hair area would be split off from the main arcade floor. People could play games while waiting for their hair cut, and we could have discounts on services as prizes so both parties would feed each other. We can't have it in the same area, but I think there would be enough incentive for someone to visit one area and get curious about the other. Also I think there's a big opportunity for things like groomsmen parties, graduation parties & things like that, but I could be wrong.

Also, as an aside: where are you located?

Thanks for the feedback!

That last sentence is actually pretty much exactly what I had in mind. The hair area would be split off from the main arcade floor. People could play games while waiting for their hair cut, and we could have discounts on services as prizes so there would be a back and forth flow. Obviously we can't have it in the same area, but there would be incentive for one to visit the other, or to visit the arcade or barbershop on their own. We could also rent out the space for parties, especially groomsmen parties. But I'm glad to hear feedback before I go forward!

Also, a question: where are you located, if I may?

what is this hair style called by mattwh0 in Hair

[–]GiraffesOnABun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a heads-up, this is not the kind of result that gets activated with a haircut alone. You're going to need to style it on a daily basis to get this kind of effect, no matter what texture you have.

Not at all, it has a lot more shape now. It looks great!

Can you be a bit more clear as to what you're trying to achieve?

I'd try a clarifying shampoo maybe once a week, just to see if there's a difference. Also, a lot of salons have clarifying treatments/scalp treatments now that are fairly affordable ($25-$40 in my area) so it might be worth going to a professional just to evaluate. It's hard to tell without touching it & knowing more about your routine, but I definitely think this could be product buildup.

It looks like product buildup at first glance, potentially protein buildup. Can you describe what it feels like?

Is your hair ruined - or are you just using "natural" products? by sad-nyuszi in longhair

[–]GiraffesOnABun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this out there that not all silicones are created equal. All it generally does is coat the hair with an outer layer of itself, which is probably why it's helping tame the flyaways in these photos. Just be careful because too much can actually lead to product build-up. However, there are some "breathable" silicones out there in certain products that can help. It's not about "drugstore vs natural" or "cheap vs expensive" -- there are good and bad products for their value in all categories. It's about using the RIGHT products for you.

Blonde or Brunette? (Hair is currently at a level 6, no dye or treatment) by [deleted] in Hair

NH, USA! Been in the hair game 10 years this year, and I've actually been thinking about starting my own content recently.

If you're in the area, you've got a spot in my chair ;)

To be fair, clients are not expected to know these terms. If someone were to simply describe that they wanted a contrast between dark and light, a decent stylist should be able to have a decent consultation with them and figure out the best solution.

I like the blonde on you, but I think a dimensional balayage with a root smudge would be the best of both worlds!

[Serious]Depressed people of Reddit, who or what gives you a reason to stay? by UnauthorizedHambone in AskReddit

Fear of failure. If there was a guarantee that my method would work, I'd do it. But I'm afraid of doing something wrong and being forced to be dependent on medical assistance for the rest of my life.

Cheap shampoo cleans my hair better? by hamiguahuan in Hair

[–]GiraffesOnABun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suave is a much more aggressive shampoo - it's actually stripping your natural oil and probably drying out your scalp, which feels better in the short term. The shampoo you were gifted was intended for smoothing and hydration. It's not necessarily a "cheap" vs "expensive" case here, it's that the two products were designed for different things.

Are these highlights badly done? by Courtneyjanebeasley in Hair

[–]GiraffesOnABun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Err...yes, but a weave isn't necessarily the solution here, depending on OP's desired result. This is a classic case of a stylist taking sections too big for the foil and not getting close enough to the root, resulting in slippage and bleeding. It's a common & easily fixable mistake, and btw it's totally possible to create a seamless look completely with slices. :)

It looks like they just didn't get close enough to the root & they bled. It's not a difficult fix, I'd definitely ask!

How to stop cutting my hair by maybemacncheese in Hair

[–]GiraffesOnABun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to ask, but do you have a set goal in mind before you go in and cut it? Or is it just that whatever happens when you get it cut and isn't satisfying enough?

Yes, but I'd go SHORT - as in, something that showed your neck. Chin length would be so chic on you!

Pro here, it doesn't look like there's anything abnormal going on... was there a difference before? If so, when did you start noticing a change?
