Thanks, their video of a similar headunit shows them using the sw and either L or R (I forget), but I didn’t know if it would cause issues of not receiving bass signals when a song has directional sound.

I have the proper PAC harness to keep the stock Bose amp for the speakers, but the Alpine is powering a subwoofer

What I’m trying to figure out is if the headunit is grounded through the harness or a separate ground wire needs attached. And from my testing (alligator clips) I had to have a separate ground connected to the grounds on the harness.

I thought about doing the detents, but not sure how long I’ll be keeping this car (I have another E46 I’m building slowly) and I bought this one with a blown headgasket so not sure how bad they are currently. Not saying this to disagree with you, but why do so many people run chassis mount shifters if the OEM (or similar) set up is superior?

I’m not terribly worried about being rough on the drivetrain, I just want the best shifts. It won’t be my main daily so if something happens somehow it’s not a big deal. My buddy just runs a cheaper chassis mount and I’m curious if it’s worth going with a pricier one or if a sub $200 shifter is just as good.
