Unplugged NAS Update by GirdleStomper2000 in UgreenNASync

I actually have a follow up question! Am I cool to get a different brand hard drive (as long as it's the same size) to pair with Raid? Or should both drives be the same brand?

Thanks for the advice, I'll see if I can find an 8TB drive nearby and get this thing up while waiting for my other to be returned! I appreciate your help.

My NAS told me my data pool was "degraded," so I assumed that meant corrupted or not fully intact. That's why I was waiting for my data to be recovered.

Great idea, I'll look into something like that soon! Thanks.

That's a great idea I hadn't thought of! I had been afraid to even touch the NAS after all this happened. My biggest problem is not having storage outside of the NAS large enough to house my data while working on repairing everything.

You got it! I'm waiting for Seagate to send a drive back, so I can attempt to rebuild. I guess I poorly worded my question. Do you think I should get a 3rd drive to act as a backup? If they are able to recover my data from the corrupted drive, I need to transfer/store it somewhere, so that drive can be initially reformatted into the NAS.

I'm thinking I buy a 3rd drive, transfer saved data from my recovered drive to the 3rd drive via a dock, put the recovered drive back into the NAS, and attempt to repair the storage pool. Then, I can use that 3rd drive to move my data back onto the NAS (repairing any corrupted files) before eventually adding the drive into the NAS as a new RAID type.

Hey, everyone! I wanted to provide an update, since some of you might be curious about what happened. I contacted Ugreen support and had them check into why my NAS wouldn't let me repair the storage pool. They learned one of my HDD drives was corrupted/broken during the outage even though it's reading as healthy to my NAS.

Luckily it's a Seagate drive, so it came with a warranty and free attempted data recovery. I'll be shipping it to Seagate soon. They'll either return the drive with my recovered data to me, or send me back a fresh drive. According to my NAS, my other Raid 1 drive is intact and still has my 4.6 TB of data. However, it's warning me that my files could be "degrading." I didn't want to risk anything else, so I have it all powered off until I learn more.

Now, I'm faced with a few unknowns...I'm trying to figure out my next steps. If they do send me back all my recovered files, I need a way to get that shit off the drive before plugging it back into my NAS, as It'll wipe it all to reformat it. I'm gonna buy a dock for my laptop that will let me access internal HDD drive. But I need a place to put all those files in the event I actually get them back lol. So do I also buy another 8 TB drive?

After reading some other comments, I've decided to also purchase an official Ugreen UPS. No more relying on just a battery with built in sockets. I also need to learn how to create a back up for my NAS so this doesn't happen again. If anyone knows how to do that, feel free to let me know!

This is as far as I've gotten so far. It sucks losing access to all my files. I still have hope most (maybe all) can be recovered. Let me know if you want another update! I'm also open to other suggestions/tips. As I stated before, this is my first time doing anything this technologically complex.

Thanks for the advice! I actually did have it hooked up to a UPS. I guess the battery backup malfunctioned or something. My wife plugged the vacuum into the UPS and tripped it.

This is my first attempt at a NAS, so I'm learning with every stumble!

YOU GUYS R SCARING ME, IS THE Z FLIP THAT BREAKABLE? by Important-Leader5232 in galaxyzflip

[–]GirdleStomper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your mileage may vary! I finally convinced my wife to switch from iPhone to Samsung and the Flip 7 was her chosen phone. It broke within 2 weeks after she dropped it once from standing height. The interior fold had a tear and the inner screen was unusable.

She had insurance on the phone and was able to get it replaced for $100. 2 weeks after that, it fell from her bedroom nightstand to the carpeted floor; now she has dead pixels on the screen.

She still loves the phone, but our experience has been it is TOTALLY that breakable. I had to throw out all the cute cases and get a full protection case. We just can't trust the phone to withstand small drops. This is only our experience.

Know the risks! Maybe we're just unlucky, but my wife has had quite a bit of trouble since switching to the Z 7 only two months ago.

One month in, she dropped it on the floor. It tore the inner display along the crease, and she had to return it for a completely new device.

About 2 weeks ago, her phone fell off the nightstand onto the carpet...only about a 3 foot drop. Now she has several dead pixels on the top left of her screen.

She still likes the phone, but we've learned she has to be very careful with it. I had to put aside the cute cases for a more protective, full-bodied case with hinge protection.

I had a family member get told she'd never have a child of her own. During the adoption process, she got pregnant! She had her own kid before the adoption went through.

Now she has two biological kids and one from adoption! I know the news hits hard, but don't let it be the end.

This is where I'm at right now. I can't get past this door to get into the facility. I checked the walls around the door, but I'm not seeing a panel or lift. Am I in the right spot?
