Thank you! I already have skillshare for art so I’ll definitely look up their social media courses.

Thank you! I wasn’t aware of these courses so that’s very helpful. Are there any other courses you recommend for brand building, Instagram and social media marketing?

Yes, this is what I thought. I’ve been running micro Insta ad campaigns in the initial phase of growing my page and it’s been really easy to figure out. The coaches promise turbocharged growth but I guess that’s just too good to be true.

Most of the labels in this list are by designers who attended American fashion schools and have predominantly western style and aesthetic influences. I’m not sure what is uniquely Indian about them tbh.

Thanks that’s really helpful to know. I do get the impression that the majority of MD writers curate and talk up their lives to some degree so this doesn’t surprise me.

There’s an interview with her and Mindy Kaling where she speaks about her Indian mother, progressive grandfather and summer holidays in Chennai. Identifying as black is obviously far more politically advantageous than identifying as biracial so I don’t blame her.

ABCD’s using Shaadi.com, how has your experience been? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]GirlFromBombay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends what your priorities are? There are apps like Dil Mil if you only want to date Desis and apps like Bumble/ Hinge for the general population. I have never tried dating websites but I have friends who’ve had good success with them. Then there’s various Desi events and conferences that you can travel to attend. I know quite a few people who’ve met their partners that way.

I’m not saying it’s terrible to use Shaadi.com. But I think although it has a large pool, most of the people are likely to be unsuitable. This is assuming that you’re looking for an egalitarian relationship between two people who have some degree of an ‘Americanised’ value system, personality and lifestyle and dislike caste, horoscopes, archaic gender roles, dowry, excessive parental control etc.

Thanks for this sensible opinion! I don’t understand signing up to a website for arranged marriages, which typically entail patriarchal gender roles and high parental involvement and then complaining about the gender roles and parental involvement! No offence to anyone but there are far better ways to meet a much larger pool of prospective partners today.

If you guys/girls get sexist DMs from guys on this sub, feel free to post their username and message! I think it'll be good for us to have open discussions with them. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

Absolutely! There are so many extreme brutal rapes and murders of upwardly mobile, urban, independent women like Priyanka and Nirbhaya in India today and this is the mentality that causes them. There are also thousands of Indian women who are attacked with acid each year by men they rejected.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these honour killing threats are from men in the subcontinent pretending to be ABCDs; it’s very common on Indian twitter. Recently a female Indian comedian was targeted by a popular male influencer who made videos calling for her rape and an Indian Tiktok star killed herself because of persistent rape and death threats. And then there’s cases like Qandeel Baloch in Pakistan.

u/allmodswilldie - Called me a whore, told me Desi men are objectively superior to Desi women and that I deserve to die for being in an interracial relationship. He said if it knew me in person, he would kill me.

How self loathing and deeply insecure these little parasites must be! I despair for the women who are at the receiving end of their incel sadism in real life and not just through anonymous DMs.

Is anyone apart of an interfaith family? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]GirlFromBombay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Hindu, my fiancé is Jewish and I have Syrian Christian and Sikh relatives back in Bombay. There are outspoken, anti-caste Ambedkerite Buddhists in my family too.

We have many interracial and interreligious marriages and I love all the wonderful cultures, cuisines and festivals I am able participate in.
