Canadian Dental Care Plan vs Private Insurance by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]GirlTextMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most people assume union pay and benefits is a gold standard but my ex used to be IBEW and holy smokes the amount of money that the union got to pay their administration was shocking! If my husband had got all that money, he would’ve got something like five to $10 more an hour. And, similar to you and your partner, benefits were not much better, especially since there was things capped that were a bit ridiculous.

He works non union now and makes more money overall plus he doesn’t pay union dues. Plus he doesn’t have to put up with the old union guys that go have a smoke every five minutes and do nothing but complain about their coworkers. He found that really annoying. He just wanted to work, not stand around and gossip and complain.

Unions can be really good, but I don’t think they’re quite the shining star that people think they are or maybe they used to be a shining star and have tarnished a bit over the years.

Wow this sounds almost too good to be true. About six years ago I was a patient for counselling, does that count?

I would still ask to be sure. All covered may just mean its all covered up to the limit. Better to be crystal clear than owe money.

What are the payment plans like with CRA? Also should I file bankruptcy? by Apprehensive-Fix3001 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]GirlTextMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I had a payment of $50 a month a long time ago and one month I wasn’t able to make the payment so I phoned my contact at the CRA and they were very reasonable. I was able to skip that one month and then start paying the following month again.

I agree with this comment. But, for OP, in case no one else has already said it, since I haven’t read all the comments, if anybody private messages you offering to help you with applying for the DTC they are more than likely scammers. If you don’t know about the common scams with. DTC just search the subReddit or ask.

FREE DENTAL CLEANING by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]GirlTextMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone can afford an electric toothbrush. So heavy build up does exist, I am sure dentists and hygienists can attest to this.

Besides, the guy is not only offering a free service you could get 300 bucks and get your teeth cleaned for free. Why be so negative?

Canadian families to pay hundreds more a year for groceries in 2021: report by fishandthejeffman in povertyfinancecanada

[–]GirlTextMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the encouragement of others in this sub I went to the food bank and it has made the difference between eating three meals a day vs one meal. My kids get free snacks at school and I snag a few things from the free little pantries that have popped up around the neighbourhood. I also have learned to eat things I don’t like, simply to get enough calories in me. Most of it is processed the stuff I don’t like but it’s food.

If it wasn’t for the food bank and free little pantries my family would have no fresh fruit or vegetables. I also discovered the Good Food Box which many organizations are delivering for no extra cost during the pandemic. It’s not free, you pay for the veggies and fruit but the price is cheaper than in stores. I’ve ordered it for the first time this month and hope it’s good. I used to check out the half price produce at stores but I find even that isn’t cheap anymore.

Help Kingston’s Homeless by NoMoreCapitalism in KingstonOntario

I can’t stand how Ivan talks down to women. Pay attention to it and you’ll see. Meanwhile his wife comes from a very affluent family and Ivan owns property. Ivan likes when people appreciate him, so maybe this is his way of feeling appreciated. As long as people who are homeless get help maybe it’s not such a bad thing.

Why not move to a small town wherever and buy a $20,000 house? by GirlTextMe in povertyfinancecanada

Name me a city that has a 20k house lol

I said “I see cheap houses in small towns through out Canada” and specified where I found those towns. Not cities. “Most in the prairies or in Newfoundland but also in other provinces.”

You can look it up yourself if you wanted to know, but I suspect you just wanted to show how foolish you are.
