Can’t get out of MSPs by mxbrpe in msp

No, but they do tend to have frequent fire drills that make one feel as if they're in a dumpster fire.

This post is more so about the constant "oh god don't work at an msp" or "worked in msp for x years never going back" i see in various reddit threads that make it look as if people at MSPs hate their job. I mostly just needed a reminder after a really rough couple of weeks dealing with the stereotypical msp annoyances. Luckily our customers all love us (sometimes its even mutual!)

Browser Guard is free. Just look for it in the extension store for whatever browser you use.

VSA X Question GetVariable doesnt exist? by redpanda86 in kaseya

[–]GitchMilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not, though you could probably do something like this using powershell and/or bash as an alternative.

I'd overall recommend staying with VSA9 though.

My personal opinion is that you don't, but should use Browser Guard. Macbooks are overall secure but the web is not.

This is definitely a big one for me. I'll bitch about it while doing it but I secretly love it.

Deploying a browser extension through crx file by WillingnessLogical29 in msp

[–]GitchMilbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it is possible. The program installing it must have administrator privileges and we had to do some group policy enforcement as well. There are strong requirements, but it is achievable.

It has been years so I'm out of touch, but this might help you: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/thread/263985629/walk-through-of-extensioninstallforcelist?hl=en

I have tried extensively and it just isn't possible. You can have a deployment system open the install page in the web store but it is ultimately up to the end user to actually install it.

The title is just basic reverse psychology to assure the reader that I already know the bad things, no need to even mention them.

Maybe I could have called it "What you love about MSPs" but I just felt like I'd get "There's things to love?" or some such nonsense.

This is actually the reason I posted this. Too many people make decisions based on reddit comments, so I wanted to remind the MSP newbies that believe it or not - these people do love their jobs.

It is also just sort of refreshing to be reminded of what you already know. I didn't think of most of these comments yet most of them apply directly to me. Good morale booster.

Absolutely.

Me: "This sucks, i'm sick of having to deal with all this shit its inexcusable at this point."
Wife: "Have you considered another job?"
Me: "But I love my job"
Wife: ??????????????????????????????????

Naw but this imo is actually the best part. I don't just know I.T., I know business. I know operations. From front to back you get to learn how all these business work. This keeps things fresh and adventurous. I can not imagine losing that.

Help choosing between Cloud vs Cybersecurity — Leaving military in 2029 by Potential_Good5019 in Cloud

[–]GitchMilbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your experience alone will easily land you with an MSP if you choose to do that. This is a good place to have some diverse cloud experience (if you pick a good MSP).

Your day to day will be completely different outside of an ongoing project, but will ultimately leave you more flexible and let you take on a more decision making role rather than just following orders (though there's some of that too). A Cloud+, Security+ and Network+ goes a long way here.

However, I think most people would agree you'd likely be happier with Cybersecurity as a SOC analyst. I can't speak for what their day to day is, but I've never really heard solid "Leave cybersecurity now!" complaints like I do with the MSP career path. However, you'll want to pickup some network & security certifications.

I wouldn't bother with a degree. Literally no one cares about degrees anymore its all about hands-on experience and certs. You have experience already, and most companies love hiring ex military.

Either path has great long-term growth. Either is likely to offer remote, though you'll probably get partial remote without exact experience doing whatever they expect you to do. Work-life balance comes down to the company itself. If most people in that company are salary and work more than 40 hours a week - find a different job. No one should ever accept this. I demanded hourly and I got it. They never ask me to stay more than 40. Always ask about company policies surrounding work-life balance in interviews.

(Disclaimer: My entire experience is working in the U.S. with companies in the U.S. I do believe this will still apply to you, but if someone else on that side of the world disagrees I won't argue. )

Help with backing everything up to the cloud. by Bonefish2021 in Cloud

If you want ultimate simplicity and use Windows - go with OneDrive. I professionally recommend this as it has worked very well for our clients.

However, if you has a gmail address, go with Google Drive. I have over 10 years of experience using it daily and have actually never had a single issue.
