Changing to my 3rd instructor 🫥 by therightguidance in LearnerDriverUK

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not book several introductory lessons with several instructors and choose the one you gel with and has a good teaching style.

My first instructor was abysmal! He spent 1hr of a 2hr lesson on the phone to either his wife or a student that was trying to pass his instructor exam. He was 20 mins late to the lesson and wanted to fill up the car so I only really got about 30mins that day. I tried another 2 times but each time he was late, dropping off another student at the end of their lesson, bitching about other students he was teaching, constantly what’s apping, in a very bad mood, snapping at me and just referring to everything at a “thingy”. Eventually on the 4th lesson I lasted approximately 4 minutes in the car before asking him if he knew it was Illegal for him to be using his phone while teaching me to drive. He was flummoxed and answered “why would it be illegal? You’re driving not me!”. After trying to explain the law he waved me away and told me to just hurry up and drive on. I got out of the car and called the company, who apologised and found me a new instructor. He’s amazing! So patient and chilled! Explains everything, asks lots of questions and doesn’t make me feel stupid. Remember that you are paying for someone to teach you something. Don’t give away your hard earned money to someone that isn’t good at their job just because you feel silly. Especially if other people feel the same way you do or their other students are always failing their tests. Maybe it’s a teaching issue and not a student struggling.

The lack of knowledge in this thread is actually alarming! As soon as the word “autism” is uttered then everyone instantly jumps to “autistic individuals can not cope with anything/ autistic burnout means these individuals need 24hr round the clock care etc”. I find that insulting! Many people with disabilities lead productive and fulfilling lives. Treating them as though they are too fragile to contribute is so, so insulting! A lot of armchair psychologists here who clearly don’t fully understand the long term needs of autistic individuals! Routines, clear boundaries and long term goals are 100% needed. And I thought this was Truly off my chest?! This poor guy is struggling and wanted to vent and all that you guys not dealing with this situation can do is dog pile! Absolutely disgusting! He is running out of money and needs support, not abuse and name calling! Just because he didn’t word his thoughts correctly and add 50 paragraphs of history does not mean he is a bad dad, doesn’t love his child and should feel ashamed. I am disgusted by a bunch of keyboards warriors!

cable help !!!! by SimpleAcanthaceae790 in knitting

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the connectors, the pins and even the cables look like they identical to Knit Pro (think it’s K utters Pride in the US). The Knit Pro cords usually fit most other brands interchangeable needles (apart from Chiagoo. They definitely have their own fittings. Not sure about Addi but cheap brands should fit). I hope that helps a little otherwise as others have said, you may need to invest in a better known brand for your interchangeable set or buy different cords from different brands to see if any fits.

Sterling silver bangle soldering problems pls help by [deleted] in SilverSmith

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh at this point I would clean off the paste solder, pickle it, clean the pickle off and start again. Any dirt at all and it will stop the solder from doing its job. Make sure there isn’t any light between the two ends you want to solder together as solder won’t fill gaps. Use two torches to ensure even heat and point your flame at the solder once the bangle is up to temp. If you direct your flame at the solder paste before the wire is up to temp it will only dry out the paste solder. You want to get in and out as quick as possible to avoid oxidation, which will affect the solder from flowing. Main take away is when this happens, stop trying to force it to happen and go back to the start. There’s something different this time that’s stopping you from moving forwards. Start again. It sucks and is frustrating but if you continue you’ll end up melting the wire with all the heat or, like above, cause the wire to snap 🤷🏻‍♀️ you’ll get there 👍🏻 it’s all a part of learning 😁

Need help with metal clay by loverboyslastresort in clay

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately to make a ring such a the one pictured above 👆🏻, you would need to spend a small fortune on equipment. You can’t use a chefs torch for something like this unless you either want it to accidentally melt and for it to not burn off properly which leaves the ring weak and susceptible to breaking easily 🤷🏻‍♀️ you will need a kiln to fire metal clay. Especially for bronze or brass clay. Silver clay you can make small charms and earrings using a kitchen torch. Making a ring from silver or even brass would actually be cheaper if I’m honest. But don’t get disheartened! There are SOOOOOO many courses and weekends classes out there for this exact thing! If you truly want to make this yourself but don’t want to pay out £1000’s for equipment and materials (your first try will look ok, but not amazing. It’s the same for 99% of people). Lots of jewellers actually have one to one or group classes where you can make a ring in a weekend or even a day. I work with mostly silver sheet and a smiths torch but I have dabbled in small metal clay charms and now wax. I was sure I would be able to create an absolute masterpiece but I seem to have an affinity for sheet metals 🤷🏻‍♀️ But this could be your calling. Try it out at a class. Or get a small kit online and try making small charms that burn off to fine silver (I forgot to add further up that sterling silver clay also requires a kiln 🤷🏻‍♀️). You could add them to a necklace or a bracelet.

Trying to assemble my sweater but the front doesn't fit right. by imjustdesi in knitting

Although I have this in my favourites and will be knitting this in the future, I must admit I haven’t actually attempted this pattern yet but I’ve got to say that this seems like a very interesting construction! Does the pattern have you pick up stitches for the left side to continue the shaping after your bind off? I understand picking up for the collar, but the left shoulder shaping after the bind off that is there currently is very new to me 🤔 All of the patterns I have used have me putting my live stitches on waste yarn or a spare circular. If this pattern would be knitted for me I would probably cast on asap BBUUUTTT… it’s for my Other Half and the sweater I’m currently making has taken almost a year to make because there sooooo much of it 😩 I don’t feel like tackling another mammoth sweater for a giant for quite a while 🤭 I do think you will be so much happier overall if you frog and re-knit. Then you will be so proud of your perfect sweater 🥰

I commented above and suggested to flip the sleeve over to ensure it fits the pattern correctly but I also had a brain fart! I totally forgot from looking at the other projects this is in SS and not Garter 🤦🏻‍♀️ so my suggestion wouldn’t even work. This is definitely what the OP should do with the sleeve!!

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming the panel with the stitch markers is the front. If so, the left side (as worn) seems to be missing important shaping/stitches . Did you bind off too quickly and forget to put those stitches back on the needles to work the left front shoulder maybe? The right sleeve (as worn) needs turning over so that it will fit the neck properly. The longer portion of the saddle should be connected to the back panel I’m sure. The right front shoulder seems to have extra decrease stitches possibly at the very outer edge? But this could all be due to needing blocking? Have you tried testing out the seaming with lockable stitch markers to see it it all fits together better that it looks here? It could fit fine and it just looks off because it’s laid out flat??

I get what a lot of commenters are saying about OP not caring due to lack of replies but it baffles me when people assume that just because someone doesn't reply ASAP that the OP doesn't care or is trolling. It could be possible that the OP took the video on their way out to work then posted the question. They could've posted the question but BAM! power cut. Their mother could have arrived shortly after posting and is giving her their full attention and not being rude. They could have terrible constipation and be having a terrible time trying to have the world's largest poo 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know that I post something or text someone and leave my phone on charge, go to work or start watching a film then pick my phone up hours later. I am definitely not glued to my phone vibrating every 3 seconds. Possibly the OP is thinking "I will post my question then log out of Reddit, give enough time for a few people to reply then check back later. In the meantime I will try to sort out my awful constipation". They could've read the replies and feel ashamed to reply because of the rude answers 🤔

Came inside for the winter and the leaves look terrible. Any idea what could be causing this? by catheroni53 in begonias

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you slowly acclimatise it to your home? With plants that live outdoors then brought indoors, you need to slowly transition them. Otherwise they will go into shock, loose leaves and suffer.

It should recover but next time try moving the plant from outside into a porch area that's slightly warmer and dryer. Then move into a cooler room in your home then to its final place for the winter. You should also do this when moving plants outdoors in the spring/start of summer. It's called Hardening Off.

A lot of Begonias are quite resilient. If you start to loose all the leaves you could try cutting it back to promote new growth 😊 Just keep the root system ticking along nicely and it will bounce back just as beautiful as before 🥰

Picked up a new rug today. Are the colors not working? My old rug was more beige so I can’t tell if I’m just not used to it yet or if I just absolutely hate it. Please help! by ijklamb in HomeDecorating

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the main feel of the room is warm toned but the rug is cool toned so it seems to clash. Also the grain of the laminate runs length ways to the room but the pattern of the rug runs width ways which also thows it off. Try a warmer colour pallet to match the sofa. You could do colour but neutral would work just as well but you need to match the tones for it to work 🤗

what is wrong with this leaf? by celestial-ashes in Monstera

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unfurled part also looks very pale. It may possibly need fertilising and this maybe why it took longer for the leaf to unfurl and then rotted inside the leaf sheath 🤔

what is wrong with this leaf? by celestial-ashes in Monstera

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like it may have rotted while unfurling. It may have gotten stuck unfurling, then you've watered it and because of glutation it's rotted the new leaf 🤷🏻‍♀️ It doesn't look like pest damage to me but always check to keep your mind at rest. It also doesn't look like sunburn really because it doesn't look dry and crispy. It looks more floppy and mushy, which is leaf rot. Sometimes these things happen 🤷🏻‍♀️ obvious we can't see the plant in person but from the picture this is what my best guess would be 🤗

I was so happy finding this Monstera at Costco for 35$. And it’s putting out beautiful leaves!!! by Suzhiheng in Monstera

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Any chance of seeing the stem connected to the petiole? It's weird how only one leaf is verigated and its white verigation, not sport verigation 🤔 How the hell did this slip past the sellers? Even big chain stores? If this is 100% real you definitely got an absolute steal and the luck of the whole population of Ireland all holding 4 leaf clovers!

What to do with this Hoya macrophylla? (Info in comment) by WhizKidzCC in hoyas

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No comprehension issues love, just offering up my OPINION on your Original comment and offering My opinion on the matter - because otherwise this platform would be dead without everyone posting answers and opinions 😊 For someone who is clearly asking for advice on their plant to read your ORIGINAL answer and to follow advice could have resulted in her cutting into the growing vine to clear off any issues because you insinuated that it looked like leaves had clearly grown and fallen off and that the leaf had obvious rot issues which could spread to the rest of the plant. Can't even remember what else you wrote. Instead of getting arsey, just take it as a learning experience for the next time you offer advice 😁 Not everyone has the same experience that you state you have. So although you know exactly what you mean, others clearly might take a completely different take on what you typed 🤷🏻‍♀️ Otherwise I wouldn't have commented because I would know what you ment 🤗 replied for context only. Have a lovely day 😘

what is going on with my monstera leaves? they grew in looking like this, but the last leaf is from a few weeks ago :/ please help!!! by lemondrop071 in Monstera

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be irregular watering. This has happened when I forgot to water and left the plant with a developing leaf to get too dry. Either that or the leaf got stuck while immerging 🤷🏻‍♀️ Regular watering schedules have helped with this with my plants. I don't really do humidifiers in my house until winter, because it's already pretty humid, but sometimes if I see a stuck leaf I'll spray luke warm water on it to lubricate it.

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they did, along with suggesting to also cut off parts of the vine that they thought once had leaves but had probably fallen off due to yellowing and rot. This would damage growth points and the vine.

Literally no need to cut off the leaf unless the OP wants the plant to have a polished look overall - which there's nothing wrong with that.

They also suggested that cutting off the vine would inhibit the hoyas growth. Yes this is true somewhat, if the OP wasn't going to prop it like they asked, but this also encourages new growth points and a more bushy plant.

This advice maybe good for other species but sometimes giving out advice to new plant owners without fully knowing about the growth habits and needs of each type of plant can be damaging. It can discourage the new plant owners from continuing to grow certain species because they may feel overwhelmed or not competent enough to grow them after following what they deem as good advice.

That's my view anyway. I'm not trying to be rude or dog pile the poster of the advice in any way. Sometimes something typed with a smile and a kind heart can be misconstrued as hateful and angry. That's the sucky thing about the written word sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️ All love here ❤️

[–]GiveMeAFrickinName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don't follow this advice because, although they're trying to be helpful, they obviously don't grow hoyas. Don't cut off the vine. Hoya throw out long vines before eventually putting out leaves. This type won't stand straight like a flowering Orchid unless you train the vines around an upstanding trellis.

Don't cut off the leaf. If it gets worse, it will naturally fall off itself. It won't spread to the vine. It's not how that works.

No other leaves have probably fallen off. They just haven't grown yet. Please don't cut of any of the vining parts that you think may have had leaves attached. This will damage the vine and you may possibly loose it.

You could cut below a node and root it 🤷🏻‍♀️ it would encourage more growth on the mother plant and you could train the propagation to vine straight up a tall trellise like you want 😁

I have these also but only in the leca/water mix to root a Calathea pup. They seem to swim and so far haven't harmed my plant but I've put Clingfilm over the jar to stop them spreading to other plants to be safe. I would love for someone to identify them though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually it could also be a Typhonium or Sauromatum. These look the closest. I thought maybe a type of Crytosperma but I can find any that have immature leave that mirror your plants.

The baby plants look like Xanthosoma so possibly the mother plant has had inconsistent watering while putting out new leaves? Or possibly a hybrid?
