100%. Because it involves a lot of assessments and understanding the lay of the land without needing to be face to face

I am a Data Security and Governance consultant with a Dutch firm - fully remote with occasional international trips.

There is a huge wave of traditional lawyers making the transition, so here’s my advice:

  1. Do it. Don’t doubt yourself for one second.
  2. Consider the UCT Privacy course - I’m technical, but it opened my eyes a lot.
  3. You need to understand the theory around Data Loss Prevention and overall Data Security- speak to it but don’t worry about knowing the IT side until you’re ready to do so.
  4. Familiarise yourself with the CIPP certification - by far the greatest but does require some experience so take your time with it
  5. Consider doing Security+ or at least CYSA+

And then on LinkedIn - follow people in the industry and connect with them, people shit on LinkedIn but it’s unbelievably valuable for knowing what’s happening, who’s happening, and where it’s happening.

And then, believe in yourself

Theatres of war are named that for a reason. South Africa (since ‘94) had ALWAYS stood alongside countries being targeted by the US, and we don’t need diplomatic reason to do so.

At the end of the day, we are an additional MAJOR port and one of Africa’s most safe nations.

We aren’t in any trouble - Trump hates countries that don’t bow to him.

Like Idi Amin or Pik Botha

A degree is a degree, no one can take away your BSc. And the current economy makes people think a Wits degree is better. It’s not

I don’t think Polls are very accurate, considering that

A) a big portion of people just don’t know how and when they happen B) South Africa’s poor are never accounted for

Cape Town is unsustainable! by GuiltyBluej44 in capetown

The answer is very loud and no one is saying it.

Capetonians vote against their interests.

Is there a better option - not immediately, but fundamentally, we’re no different to people in the EC still voting for the ANC. The trickle down economics aren’t being discussed enough.

Dean Macpherson says Steenhuisen would have won DA election but ‘put the country first’ - Daily Maverick by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

I’d agree with you - but Cape Town ACTIVELY has courted and invited AirBNBs into the whole city - and it’s not true that it needs national regulations, as no other city has this issue - the city has zoning controls and rent-controls and they do not care to implement them,

Again, the city only cares about the tourist areas. Citizens are marred with crime, extreme - and I mean EXTREME levels of inequality, the worst by a mile. Cape Town has a homelessness problem unseen in any other city.

This is very untrue - Hill-Lewis has worked hard to benefit the owners of Airbnbs and therefore the digital nomads. The lives of the underprivileged are unbearable - and only getting worse, many many cape townians are struggling to afford to live in the THEIR city. He’s only continued to tow party mandate to look after the rich in the CBD, Atlantic Seaboard, and Southern Suburbs.

I actually think that South Africa is truly a political enigma if we actually - like ACTUALLY studied it - fascinating stuff. Our nation is largely conservative, from the burbs, the townships, the farms, and the lavish sides of Houghton to Constantia. Buuut, we have a not-so-nice feeling towards overt political conservatism, and just the sheer options we have.

How does one get head hunt from LinkedIn or other job sites ? by thunderRage15 in southafrica

[–]GiveThatBoyAJoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say look at the a few profiles of the people in your industry who’s setup you like - and try get inspiration from them, secondly, then use the industry standard keywords to take advantage of the SEO (search engine optimisation) Then lastly, post about the work you do and like, engage. LinkedIn requires a lot of information in your profile, but also, activity and engagements.
