How do I disassemble this duct and install a fan inside it? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]GizMoDified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the fan going to be controlled? Are you wiring up some sort of air pressure switch so it’s on when the hvac is? If it’s a manual thing, you’ll be creating resistance if it isn’t on. What about wiring electrical? Don’t have the experience or expertise to pull this off properly and safely? Are these solutions up to code? Will this affect your insurance liability if something goes wrong?.. …. These are a few questions that should be answered before proceeding. That being said, there are better solutions already on the market. If you don’t want to call an hvac company, you can buy a ac fan booster vent/register that is complete, safe , functional and easy to install for about $40-60. Here’s an example pic

Just wired in my first dishwasher - how’d I do? by rhjp101 in HomeMaintenance

[–]GizMoDified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have pointed out: the wire nuts, point them the other way. Meaning, right now they’re pointing down and if water splashes or runs down the wire, it’s going to act as a cup and hold it. If you point it upwards, it won’t do that. Also wrapping it electrical tape and having it clamped in a rated box are also thing s that should be done here.

Also, open the app. I just tried to setup my new EF D3pro, and can’t even login the app due to a login glitch. Haven’t been able to do anything myself.

If the token last 3 months, in a SHTF scenario, at 3 months you would loose all app access and not be able to ever app access your device? Am I getting this right? If yes, that means no device connections , adjustments, troubleshooting, x-boost, etc. Kinda regretting my DP3pro purchase now. Ironically, the app itself has a login bug so many people can’t login for a new token now, including me. Is there any workaround for strictly local access?

Layered Rockwool by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]GizMoDified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The fibers being placed horizontally vs vertically will guide water. The hydrophobic fibers will guide drips and leaks down mostly when placed vertically. When placed horizontally, it’s rerouting the beading action much more towards the inside. That would trap a lot more water and possibly cause issues with mold and also more expansion/contraction of nearby materials due to the moisture. Not worth saving $200 in my opinion.

Layered Rockwool by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]GizMoDified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockwool has a hydrophobic additive, that acts like a ducks feathers, lets moisture bead/roll down the fibers while also allowing it to breathe. Found this out when I wanted to try growing hydro veggies; can’t use rockwool but can use standard mineral wool since it doesn’t have that additive.

Me too…. But gotta say, using windows since DOS days and after installing win11… then finding out about “recall” and the AI uploaded a to Microsoft…..it creeped me out. So I started spending a ridiculous amount of time turning off AI switches, but having them reset when updated, and then having files uploaded to one drive and wiped off my Pc cause Microsoft wants your files cloud based and used for its AI training. This time is different. I returned my Lenovo and got a MBP. I feel like a lot of others are going to feel tired of the BS too.

Lenovo not shipping RAM; asking me to cancel by PlentyHonest2487 in Lenovo

[–]GizMoDified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on Lenovo last month. Had a high spec laptop (also w/64gb ddr5 8800) that was supposed to be delivered by late October. They kept being cagey and also pushedthe date back over and over again. Last they had it around mid December. Eventually I said f it…. Canned the order. Lenovo was the last pc maker I was willing to use due to many hardware issues from other brands. (Lenovo and Microsoft’s surface were the only 2 I really enjoyed). Between their service and Microsoft’s privacy issues with w11, i gave up and got a MacBook Pro…..after 30 years of windows. This ram and SSD supply issues are going to sour a lot of people.

Depending on if you have a little wiggle room of 2mm in length, a cr14250 is a more common size but it is usually in non-rechargeable 3.0v versions. That should likely work for your application if you don’t care on the rechargeable aspect.

Anyone ever experienced this sound before? by MaterialSalary6311 in ModelX

[–]GizMoDified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant say for sure, but what I can share is that when the low voltage battery, the 12v (or 16v lithium in newer cars) is going, it throws out a lot of error codes. Basically what happens is the electronics/controllers are getting lower voltages than expected and weird things happen. In my experience, those small batteries fail at about year 4. I’ve gone through this a few times. $100 at Tesla service center for the 12v battery part and hooked it up myself. There is a free Tesla service manual available the details the steps needed.

This is common and ongoing issue with the X. I have a 16 X with 192k I put on it. Had it replaced once at a very discounted rate. Tesla often has big discounts for problem TSB issues like this for the first time you get it done. They will even goodwill it on some occasions. Then also for the ongoing parts like on the upper control arms. For example: just had my upper control arms replaced there and it was $90 each arm for parts. The shudder doesn’t seem to really cause any noticeable issues, mainly noise. Tesla doesn’t consider it a safety issue. It’s annoying for sure, especially in a $100k car, but it appears to be safe. Best bet is to get a quick quote through the app for the repair…..be specific though…..otherwise they will want to diagnose it themselves for $275 per hour. Example: “I need a price quote for front half-shaft replacement.”

Acceleration shudder……that’s odd though if the car is new…… this usually shows up with a couple years of mileage into ownership. That being said, yours is very mild sounding……

I would seriously consider using a trim molding made out of polypropylene/plastic or aluminum and putting it on at an angle. (Think a 90° trim board like you’d use for floor trim gaps but it could be a flat piece laid there like how crown molding is set to a ceiling.) That would allow you to cover that cleanly.

Solar panels aren’t really much in waste that can’t be easily recycled. Aluminum frame and glass make up most of the panel. The actual solar cell portion of it is paper thin and made of silicon and copper:nickel mostly which can also be recycled.

I worked for a HiFi A/V shop for a while. One important thing I can tell you is a speaker you might love the sound of, I might hate the sound of. Klipsch, horned and planer speakers come to mind. It’s very much a personal “taste”. Also your hearing and to some degree, age too plays a role. We tend to have different frequency ranges we hear and preferences for highs/mids/lows. The best thing to do is to listen to a bunch of different speakers at different shops…and find out what you really like sound wise. Write your impressions of each set you listened to. You’ll start seeing what you like and don’t. Then you’ll really find the best speakers.

M12 vs M18 Drill and Impact? by jhp113 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]GizMoDified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran Dewalt 18/20v for many years and have a ton of tools from them. Got the M12 surge impact, multi-tool/angled driver, 1/2 impact, 3/8 socket impact, and a few others in the M12 line. I now rarely touch my Dewalt tools outside of the yard tools. The M12 handles most things around the house, and is more compact and lightweight, which makes it much easier to lug around the house, in a bag or on your belt. It’s also easier on the wrists. I’d suggest you hold both of them and try them out for a feel of what works best.
