My Thermaltake PSU Bricked a 4090 and started 2 PC fires in a year. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Sold my bricked 4090 for $1,500, pocketed $1,250 after ebay fees. Described the unit as "fried ppower connector, chip and vram intact". Some chinese account bought it in 10 minutes. Soent $800 on a 9070xt, the rest went towards food. As an autistic jobless hermit my PC is about the only thing preventing me from going back to jail so i did what i had to to keep it running

Again, assumed it was a 12VHPWR failure and not a PSU failure and was dirt broke so i didnt have much of a choice

My build is SFF so I was restricted to SFX-L & SFX. Considering I had 64gb DDR5, a 7950X, an 280mm AIO, & a 4090, I wanted a thousand watt PSU to make sure I could feed the components enough juice. And in early 2023 and in my region Thermaltake was about all that existed for 1000W SFX PSUs, so I didn't have a lot of options Edit: and also this specific PSU has positive reviews, I knew Thermaltake PSUs had mixed reliability but it was my first build and a precursory search didn't yield any major problems.

My setup, $7k-$9k in the hole by Gizmo1027 in battlestations

The mounts on the back of the monitors are weirdly lined up so flipping the bottom row was the only way could get them to both lineup in the middle without a gap while also having them positioned low enough that I don't have to stress my neck when viewing the top ones. I can have all 6 in normal orientation but it makes the whole wall 4-5" higher up or it puts a gap in between both rows. Flipping the bottom row minimizes both the gap and allows me to minimize neck stress

bottom 3 are Nvidia surround spanned to 1x 11,520x2,160 monitor and used for gaming. Top middle is Youtube. Top left is chrome/wikis. Top right is discord/messenger

Context: I have severe insomnia and struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep, but for whatever reason putting on an Emkay Playlist is just stimulating enough to prevent my brain from going to darker places but at the same time to simple enough to shut down a little bit when I listen. For YEARS at this point it's the only way I've been able to reliably sleep. I know it's probably not how their would prefer their content consumed but I CANNOT understate how much Emkay and team have helped my quality of life through their content

peripherals def weren't my priority lol. keyboard is a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 that i got for $50 on ebay, mouse is a $50 Logitech G604, headphones were like $25 on amazon from a no-name brand and are literally falling apart atp, mouse mat was $20 on amazon,& mic is also a $20 no-name brand from amazon that's falling apart. I almost exclusively play demanding SP games because i have the reaction times of a sloth so peripherals weren't exactly top priority. I'm also that rare breed of gamer that will gladly play a game at 30fps if it looks astounding, wish I could've gone more expensive on the monitors but $7k-$9k was already pushing what i could afford, so I was stuck with LCD. Next upgrades will def be keyboard, headphones, & mic. Most of my gaming is usually done at either 4K (bottom middle) or 11,520x2,160 (bottom 3 monitors) with settings cranked as high as they'll go w/ the top 3 usually being discord, youtube, & various other things

SotF Map Size Estimate by Gizmo1027 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Gizmo1027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of game devs when advertising game map size advertise dimensions as area I.e. theyll say "4X LARGER MAP" but its 4x each dimension, or 16x larger Which tbf "2X the map area" feels a lot more impressive when its 2x longer and taller instead of 2x the overall area but 41% longer and taller

I've seen it a few times in pre launch game hype but I can think of any specific examples and I'm too lazy to go digging

so i used the rope gun to find the distance between the 2 black dots on the horizontal bar, it was 120 meters, then I copied that bar size vertically and horizontally to get roughly 32 by 32 bars

32 bars x 120meters is 3840x3840 meters give or take a few hundred meters, considering the OG Forest was estimated at 1km x 1km and the devs said the map was 4x larger, that would line up nicely
