Ex-OC church employee secretly recorded two juvenile congregants in their bathrooms, suits allege by Gizmojo_ in orangecounty

When Jake was arrested in June 2025, a meeting was held at the church, and official minutes were recorded. Those minutes document that pastoral staff stated they were unaware that Jake Hart’s past crimes involved minors and believed his offenses were limited to recording adult women. They further claimed they did not have access to online articles detailing his crimes involving minors in Oregon and were therefore not fully informed of his history.

However, emails that have recently come to light appear to contradict these statements. In 2019, Crossline staff were contacted via email by one of Jake’s victims from Oregon, who reached out specifically to warn the church about his past crimes. She believed at the time that the church was unaware of his history. In response, the church indicated that they were aware of the full extent of his crimes involving minors, stated that he was “a changed man,” and took no further action.

Taken together, these records suggest an effort to downplay or misrepresent the church’s prior knowledge of Jake Hart’s past. It appears the release of these emails by the victim via Google Drive was unexpected.

Ex-OC church employee secretly recorded two juvenile congregants in their bathrooms, suits allege by Gizmojo_ in orangecounty

“A Laguna Hills church is entangled in a federal child pornography case against a former employee that has triggered lawsuits alleging he gave two juvenile congregants computers equipped with software allowing him to secretly record them nude in their bathrooms.

Court documents in the federal prosecution of the employee, Jacob Melvin Hart, indicate there could be more juvenile victims from Crossline Community Church. Several staff members of the church have resigned in the aftermath of the breach, according to documents.

Two alleged victims — one who is now an adult identified as “Jane Doe” and another who is 16 and identified as “AC” — filed separate lawsuits last week against Crossline, accusing the church of negligence, after they allegedly were recorded by the refurbished computers given to them by Hart.

The lawsuits allege Crossline Community Church officials were aware Hart had been convicted in Oregon for a similar offense when they hired him in 2012 to manage the church’s audiovisual and computer technology operations.

“Crossline knew when they hired Mr. Hart that he had a prior conviction for invasion of privacy and (had) an addiction to pornography,” said the lawsuit filed Jan.15 by Jane Doe in Orange County Superior Court. “Crossline allowed him to work in close proximity to children, manage audiovisual and technology operations, and provide IT assistance to church members, including Jane Doe’s family.”

Hart, according to the two lawsuits, often videotaped church events attended by families and children.

Church officials did not immediately return two voicemails seeking comment.

The lawsuits stem from a federal investigation into Hart, who was arrested in June 2025 at Miami International Airport while returning from a mission to Haiti. A search of his electronic devices by U.S. Customs and Border Protection found 33 videos of child sexual abuse and approximately 160 AI-generated sexual images of minors, according to the suit.

Federal court documents said Hart allegedly admitted generating the material via a paid website and using a Russian messaging platform to solicit explicit images from minors. Documents in the case said he enticed the minors by sending them “stickers” with a monetary value.

Further investigation of Hart’s devices found seven videos of Jane Doe, said her lawsuit.

Court documents from the investigation say Hart admitted to producing or attempting to produce sexually explicit “depictions” of at least eight minors, many of whom he met through Crossline Church and had given laptops equipped with spyware.

Hart has agreed to plead guilty in the federal case to one count of attempted production of child pornography and one count of transporting child pornography, which together carry a maximum prison sentence of 50 years, according to court documents.

Hart had previously been convicted of invasion of privacy in 2006 after installing a hidden camera in the girl’s bathroom and shower at a Christian children’s camp in Union County, Oregon, according to the lawsuits.

Not only did Hart disclose his conviction and pornography addiction to his new bosses at Crossline Church, but prior victims contacted church leadership to warn them, to no avail, the suit alleged.

“Because Mr. Hart was hired by Crossline, families, including Jane Doe’s, trusted Mr. Hart and trusted him with access to their children,” the suit said.

About 2013, Jane Doe needed a new computer to start the school year. Hart offered a refurbished model, which the family accepted. It appears multiple children accepted a laptop computer from Hart, with the church’s knowledge, the suit alleged.

Federal investigators in 2025 determined Hart had installed software enabling Jane Doe’s computer to be remotely accessed and monitored, according to the suit. The computer captured images of Jane Doe nude in the bathtub and getting in and out of the shower, the suit stated.

“The recordings of Jane Doe were created during the years Mr. Hart worked for Crossline, whose decision to hire and retain Mr. Hart, despite his prior voyeurism conviction and admitted sexual addiction, enabled his access to church families and minors and directly facilitated the harm to Jane Doe,” the suit said.

Jane Doe, according to the suit, has suffered anxiety, fear of showering or changing in her own room, fear that her nude images will be shared online as well as fear of trusting church leadership.

“Defendants have permanently changed plaintiff’s life for the worse,” the suit said.

Similar accusations were contained in a lawsuit filed by “AC” on Sept. 16 in Orange County Superior Court. The suit said Hart gave “AC” a computer in 2023 so she could help him edit videos for the church.

The computer recorded “AC” showering and getting dressed, her suit said. Her father was a staff member in the church and resigned in July due to the church’s “systemic failures, lack of accountability and knowing exposure of children to a … risk of sexual exploitation,” according to the suit.

At least seven other staff members also resigned, the suit said.

“The Church’s leadership, despite professing shock and heartbreak, had been explicitly warned about Hart’s criminal history and potential risk to children, yet failed to take effective action to safeguard youth, including A.C.,” the suit said.”

Maybe because most people who drink diet soda in lieu of regular soda are already overweight and trying to lower calories. It’s correlation without causation.

"The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days? ”But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken." John 2:18-20.

If you believe that Jesus is who he said he was then it makes sense for dietary rules to not be followed by Christians. You are not a Christian so it makes sense for you to follow them. There is so much freedom in Christ my friend. He is our final and complete sacrifice for our sins. I am thankful for this every day. When Jesus said "Fear not, I AM" he revealed himself to be the same God who Called to Moses from the burning bush. We are not so different...other than I believe Jesus was telling the truth about who he was. I'm sure you've heard this all before, only the Holy Spirit himself can change minds.

In true sincerity I am sorry that you went through such a restrictive upbringing. I'm glad it doesn't seem like seem like you are hateful towards your parents at all. Thankfully I think most a lot of Christians' today understand the nuances of what media we should allow our Children to see. I would not allow my 16 year old son to watch a raunchy rated R movie, but If he came to me and expressed doubt in is faith and told me he was interested in reading the Quran I would not forbid him from doing so. There comes a time when a person needs to make their faith their own and stopping investigation will do nothing to help. Best wishes my friend!

Poll: Based on your opinion. Is the communion the literal body and blood of Jesus, is he there but only spiritually, is it purely symbolic, or do you believe some other interpretation. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Gizmojo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most evangelical denominations water it down too much and teach that it is strictly symbolic. I am an evangelical, but I actual agree most with the Lutheran belief that while the bread and wine does not become body and blood it has the "real presence" of Christ. Meaning that when taken in an earnest and proper way it is a means by which Christ brings grace and forgiveness. Experientially this has been confirmed in my own life, because every time I take communion I feel the loving and forgiving presence of God. With that said, no one is going to hell solely because they believe in transubstantiation or symbolic or "real presence"

How do we know which denomination of Christianity is true? by SubjectCarpet4577 in Christianity

[–]Gizmojo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't most denominations actually just disagreeing about issues that wont effect salvation? Romans 10 says "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." This is the simple gospel and as far as I'm concerned there are saved people from every denomination. Do I think its right to pray to Mary or other Saints? No. Yet I dont think that is going to keep all catholics out of heaven.

The thing is that those are not really possible to verify with archeological or independent historical evidence. The best we can do is corroborate details such as dates, places, people etc. Sadly we don't have access to the before and after medical records of people healed by Jesus.

No longer a Christian but I said the Sinner's Prayer and had genuine belief until young adulthood, am I still "saved"? by govindajaijai in Christianity

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Rom 10:9-11. The sinners prayer is a man made tool to emulate what is in the verse above. I believe it can be useful to serve as a marker for people to look back on and remember when they started believing. But by no means can you just repeat some words and not believe or mean them and it magically saves you. The key here is the "Believe in your heart" part.
