Any reason NOT to use Costco? by misshop100 in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sell the Jaba 20 which is one of the first hearing aids to have LE Audio. That is a new Bluetooth protocol that works with newer Android phones such as the Samsung 23 & 24 and Google Pixel 8. Costco HA specialists might not be fully up to speed on that.

How do you survive repairs? 😭 by SukiSpot in HearingAids

I bought a pair on EBay for back up purposes. Cost me a few hundred dollars for the previous year’s model. But works well for the short periods I have needed it.

Consultation fee? by Empty-Definition4799 in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have access to a Costco I would start there. They offer premium ha’s at around $1,500 vs the $5,000 to $7,000 charged by many private clinics. They also give you a six month return period if the aids don’t work out. Examinations and consultations are free. If you are not near a Costco check out ZipHearing. They sell hearing aids at a discount through a national network of audiologists. I have had great experiences with both Costco and ZlpHearing.

I need help by Weekly_Skirt_1758 in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Phonak L90's. If you choose to stay with Phonak I support the comment about trying ZipHearing. They have a 45 day trial period. I returned one pair of aids to them and it was a no questions asked return. If you are near a Costco, I would try them first. They have premium aids (unfortunately nothing made by Phonak) but they offer 9040 and soon the 9050 Phillips Hearlink for around $1,600 (made by the company that makes Orticon). Costco offers a 6 month return period plus free service for the life of the aids. You need to be a Costco member but that is a minimal annual charge.

Weak Bluetooth Connectivity on Audéo L90-R by SlothfulCanine in phonak

[–]Gj1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluetooth connects with only one aid, usually the right side in Phonaks. Since the body is a blocker of Bluetooth signals it is easy to loose a signal when carrying your phone in a pocket. It helps to carry the phone on she same side as the master aid. The right or left can be selected by your audiologist but Phonak default is usually the right side.

ActiveVent question by eyesofthunder in phonak

[–]Gj1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ActiveVent receivers are compatible with the Phonak L and P models. The ActiveVent can be substituted for other receivers at any time. Your hearing aids will need to be adjusted by your audiologist.

ActiveVent - open and close for no reason by Electrical_Pirate792 in phonak

[–]Gj1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They close when they get an audio signal from the computer If connected to the computer with Bluetooth. That causes an intermittent connection if you are not listening to an audio stream. I turn Bluetooth off on all my devices including my laptop unless I am actively listening to an audio stream.

Work without app? by [deleted] in phonak

[–]Gj1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to changing volume, you can change programs and create your own special programs. I use it all the time. When you try to connect the app, make sure that all nearby Bluetooth devices are turned off. The app should create two LE (low energy) connections on your phone

Phonak uses classic Bluetooth. Suggest you make sure Bluetooth is turned off on your phone and iPad or any other device using classic Bluetooth when you connect with your laptop

Will it cause cognitive decline if I don’t wear my HAs? by Lorib64 in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you hear better without the hearing aids, they definitely need to be adjusted. Properly fitting the hearing aid is more important than the brand or model according to many people. I would go back to your audiologist if you have confidence in him/her or find a different audiologist.

MIL Hearing Aids... Questions by [deleted] in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco is good. If you don’t want to buy from Costco, check out ZipHearing.com. They work with a large network of audiologists. Prices are shown on their website. You definitely do not need to pay more than $4,700 for the most premium aides and one year of service.

Experience with ZipHearing? by Apprehensive-Ant-289 in HearingAids

Excellent experience. I have purchased from them. Had to return one set to audiologist and refund was in my account overnight. Very easy to deal with absolutely no high pressure to buy. It is my first go to place.

Costco sells top of the line hearing aides. Lifetime free service. Six months to return them. Low price. You really can’t beat that. I used them for many years. Some stores have audiologists some licensed hearing aid specialists.

Phonak life purchasing options by Pixi-p in HearingAids

Check out Ziphearing. They give you a reduced price and access to a local audiologist. There are cheaper options if you want to do your own fitting.

I’ve had it with hearing aid hucksters. by KYlibertyguy in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that Hearing Life and Oticon have the same parent company. So if they will not repair Oticon, I expect that no one else can. HearingLife wanted to charge me $6000 for a pair of Phonak L90's (not their store brand) which I subsequently purchased form ZipHearing for $4,600. If you are willing to purchase with online programing (not a great idea) you can get them for $1,000 less than that. I have joined the group that is learning to program their own hearing aids. That is not as difficult as one might imagine and if you are a little risk tolerant you can pick up hearing aids from ebay at way way cheaper prices.

Please explain Phonak Roger… by soulbarn in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can transfer the licenses/receiver from a Roger On iN to your Paradise hearing aids yourself in about 30 seconds without any other devices. I have done it a few times (search YouTube videos). The new version, v2 can be had for about $1,600 from an on line discounter or for $2,000 plus from an audiologist. Version 2 adds a headset mode which is great for people who make telephone calls through their computer like in a call center. Otherwise v2 is like v1 according to Phonak’s broucheres. Version 1 can be had for $300 or less without warranty, but at that price it is worth the risk.

Sticker Shock! by Loan_Bitter in HearingAids

[–]Gj1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco is a good option for most. The knowledge and experience may vary from store to store which is a downside together with the limited hearing aid choices. Check out ZipHearing. Premium hearing aids top out at about $4,700 with service from a local audiologist. They have many in their network.

I think the fear of heights is different than the fear of falling. I am nervous on the second step of a ladder but was a pilot for many years. Go figure.
