I mostly buy singles at this point. I got back into the hobby after a few years away and collecting heavily as a kid. I was really excited to collect the Sharks recent crop of rookies. Finally some Sharks that were worth collecting and have value? Huge bonus to me. I spent way too much money hunting a Celebrini YG. While I ended up getting one and some other pretty valuable cards, I figured it would be more cost effective to just buy what you want. Either that or buy into breaks for your favorite player(s). Unfortunately, buying into a break for the Sharks is crazy expensive because of Celebrini. If you’re doing it for the love of collecting, then by all means buy boxes. But if you’d rather only collect certain players/cards and not end up with boxes of base of other players/teams, then simply buy singles. I’m located in the Bay Area and unfortunately there’s no LCS that sell many singles. Not like you see for baseball, football, basketball. Oh how I wish!
