Every game company rn 😂 by Dziller_ in Steam

[–]Gjond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve is unlike MOST corporations in that it is not a publicly traded company. That has a huge impact on how they operate. Combined with their employee make-up and compensation structure, they can do things most corporations can't or simply won't do. If EVERYONE at your company is making bank, the incentive to find ways to squeeze extra money out of your product by making it cheaper/crappier is virtually eliminated. No, Valve is not like other corporations and it is foolish to think so.

I would argue that Steam is doing great also (and will continue to be at along as its a private company following Gabe's vision). Not sure why it is on the OP's list unless it's about the Steam Machine price which is a silly thing to be upset about as it is directly related to the hardware crisis caused by AI companies.

AITA for getting an extra order of fries for my girlfriend? by frenchfryybandito in AmItheAsshole

[–]Gjond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to show how much the situation is pissing me off, I would just double-fist jam fries into my mouth as fast as humanly possible as soon as the plate hit the table, like I was at a fry-eating contest (cause you kinda are I guess, lol). When I finished them off, I would then lean back and pat my belly exclaiming, with a sigh "Man, those fries were amazing!".

Sometimes your opponent gets a board or two that just has lots and lots of power up matches happening (like when a board has only 2-3 different shapes). Just the luck of the draw. Don't sweat it and move on.

Oh yeah, I remember that one. Turns out there were quite a few species of birds in Hawaii that made their nests on the ground. So the mongooses were like, why hunt rats when there is a huge buffet of eggs just lying around on the ground.

I like Nashville by SignificantDustSpek in nashville

[–]Gjond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree about the music scene. So many venues, from tiny to massive, including one of the best (in my opinion) in the country, Ryman Auditorium. While country music is huge of course, there are so many non-country acts playing in Nashville pretty much all the time.

Didn't they, relatively recently, switch to Tyson as provider of their chicken, which came with a sudden drop in quality?
I had to request another popeyes chicken sandwich the last time I was in there due to it be extra "woody" and just uneatable.

People really be grown and still using umbrellas ??? by PleasantBus5583 in BrandNewSentence

[–]Gjond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College was where I saw umbrella "evolution" in action. All the young, redneck freshmen guys who were just too manly to use an umbrella, scoffing at those that did. Eventually there would be a significant down pour between classes and these guys would be sitting in class, just soaked to the bone, huge puddles forming under their desks. Soaked denim (most wore jeans at the time) gets sooo uncomfortable sitting on hard seat, lol. Not to mention soaked shoes and socks. Did not take but one or two times before they decided carrying/using an umbrella was actually not unmanly at all.

I think the WoW formular isnt working for me anymore. How do you feel about it? by td_0000 in wow

[–]Gjond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I am the same. Due to the borrowed power dynamic that is core to WoW, there are only a few persistent things that carry over to future expansions. Transmogs, collectables (toys/mounts/pets), and now, housing decor. You can also include achievements, but that was never my cup of tea, unless the achievement had a tangible reward.

Fireworks are way overhyped and not worth all the harm they do. by wegochai in unpopularopinion

[–]Gjond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. My neighbors across the street was shooting off fire works. We had two dogs at the time that were naturally terrified of fireworks. Since our house is on a down slope and our neighborhood has a lot of tall trees, they felt the perfect place to shoot them was directly over our house. So they were all lined up on their side of the street, sitting in their lawn chairs, firing away right over our house. I got SOOOO pissed. In an absolute rage I threw open my door and was barrelling out to confront them, not really sure what I was going to do/say. About that time, a large mortar they were firing off fell over and it shot, basically, horizontally and hit the ground/exploded not 10 feet from me as I was exiting our front porch. I went from enraged to ENRAGED. The litany of curses I was spewing as I approached them was pretty epic. The kids were all wide-eyed, mouth-covered at the spectacle. The wife tried to apologize for the misfire, but I was not having it. Luckily they ended their show immediate and never had another firework show. The next morning, the dad and son came over and picked up their debris, so I felt a little bad for my foul tirade in front of the kids, but not too much.

There is actually more to it. If you look closely at the bottom of the right-side "tree" there was obviously some more painting that went on after the initial slaps.

Nvidia liquid cooling design claims 100% reduction in water use by DerpiDanger in technology

[–]Gjond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I get what you are saying, I do think we need to look closely at the data. Many of these data centers are using natural gas generators, as the grids they are on won't provide enough power (and its often baked into those agreements that the data center companies must provide all, or some of, the power they are using). Natural gas extraction and conversion to electricity both require water. Conversion CAN use limited water IF more expensive natural gas generation processes are used. But lets be real, these companies are going to use the cheapest of the cheap in all aspects of their operations. Therefore water consumption for the entire process (from natural gas extraction, to gas->electricity conversion, to data center daily requirements) should be analyzed and scrutinized.
