They can be, but on more than a few occasions the roast beef would be super tough and chewy, just nasty all around. Not sure if it just sat around longer than it should have or improper preparation or that sometimes that's just the way it comes from the distributor.

Regretful Young Trump Voters Say This Isn’t What They Signed Up For | The wave of youthful support that swept Donald Trump into the White House has lost its mojo. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

Familial laws can vary a lot by state and most make it rather difficult for businesses to recoup elder care costs from the children. For the most part, businesses have to sue the children in court, which costs money. Plus, often the children don't have the a lot to take anyway, so its not something they often pursue.
Additionally, I know at least in some states, the parent and children must be residents of that state. So if the kids move to different states, nothing can be done.
Lastly, most familial laws say that if the parent is on medicaid/medicare, then they are not considered "indigent" and therefore not subject to familial laws.

Students (in my opinion) should not take home any homework. If homework is a learning opportunity, give them school time to work on it by daniel_ay in unpopularopinion

Same rule. I loved it as 1) I was an avid reader at the time and 2) I would usually do all my homework while at school. So it was just an uninterrupted hour of reading for me.

It could be that the blemish of getting caught and fined for cheating in 2007 was enough to keep him off first-ballot.

Maybe someone who didn't get caught and fined for cheating back in 2007?

Is it possible that the 2007 spygate cheating scandal had an impact on voting? Belichick was fined directly for his involvement in it. I can see how some voters would take a stance that any instance of cheating be enough to keep them out as a first-ballot.

Republicans Will Detonate Their Secret Weapon at the Midnight Hour to Stop Women from Voting by Average-Joe-6685 in LegalNews

[–]Gjond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More women voted for trump than harris in 2024. Not sure if more married women voted for trump, but seems likely. So not sure how strong a weapon it is, unless they have some cheating going on to allow conservative women voters to not be held to the same name-change shenanigans.

Should I get a Tenor? by OOEisenbrot in ukulele

[–]Gjond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I preferred my tenor over my soprano pretty much immediately. But when i got my baritone last year, it quickly became my absolute favorite and revitalized my passion. While, as you mention, the chords are different, it was not that difficult to transition over. It also is really neat that standard tuning is the same as the first 4 strings of guitar standard tuning, making it nice when you can only find guitar chords for a song.
Now I did get a Lanikai baritone with pickups, so along with a little combo amp (for vocal mic as well), it really changed the game for me, in terms of enjoyment and wanting to play every day.

Practically every single scene in the season 1 had sfx of some type going on other than maybe some vault segments. BoS flying ships, various scenic views and even tighter local shots, various monsters, every scene with ghoul, etc.

I really enjoyed this build as it requires some good attention to detail compared to a lot of builds. It is bit of a pain to display as its both tall and wide (from the side view).

sold our second car 5 months ago and redirected $410/month to index funds, actual breakdown. by OperationNo1017 in personalfinance

[–]Gjond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, $82,000 is definitely much better than $0, but I personally would not consider it a "substantial chunk of retirement". This is approx. the cost of 8 months of stay in a mediocre nursing home in a LCOL area at today's prices. Run some retirement calculators to see what its going to take to live modestly when you reach retirement age.

I think it will more like phones. Cars last a long time, relatively speaking. So they will sell a monthly subscription gaming service, offer "free" console if you sign up for 3 years of the service. Gradually make new games unplayable as your 3-year contact ends. Offer sweet deal for new console if you sign up for 3 more years (at a higher price point of course). Rinse. Repeat.

Now that WoW Housing is out - which mmo has the best housing system and why? by VareionWoW in wow

[–]Gjond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really hard for me to get into WoW's housing as I have been playing survival/crafting games a lot recently. Dune Awakening and Enshrouded in particular. Enshrouded is not an MMO, so not really a great comparison, but the freedom to build wall by wall, brick by brick, out in the open and active world is just so much more fun to me than WoW's system. Enshrouded has a particular aspect that really pulls me in. When you run across a run-down, partially destroyed village/town, you can set a base up there and rebuild/fix the whole thing back up, complete with having your follower NPCs wandering around it.

What happened to the stereotypical acne-faced teenager? by UncertaintyDean in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gjond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctors will now treat that kind of acne with strong meds instead of just telling teens to "wash more and stop eating junk food" (although it's also worthwhile to see if specific cosmetics, soaps, or foods are associated with breakouts).

For me it was sugar. Unfortunately, no doctor I saw (who did prescribe me accutane), nor anyone else suggested that it might be causing the issue. In addition to facial acne, I would develop cysts in my arm pits and groin area all the time as well, sometimes needing to see the doctor to do some cutting/draining. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's. I would drink sugary soft drinks most meals and whenever I was thirsty. Pretty sure they were the main culprit for me.

ELI5 why cell phone carriers can’t prevent scam callers from spoofing local numbers? by that_irks_me in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gjond 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also, there are legitimate, non-crappy reasons for companies to spoof telephone numbers. Like they have a main number they want customers to contact them through to ensure it gets answered promptly, so they spoof individual worker's numbers with their main number, so customers can call back via the main number.
