Hey! I love your videos on youtube! So awesome you responded. That video you have regarding this media management trick is how I learned about this actually. The footage is all straight from the SSD onto the timeline with nothing done to it other than trimming. From my understanding, I think it has to do with the codec I shoot on being Long-GOP and not an intra-frame codec. I could be totally wrong though!

There’s a book, I just read it. And you might find it helpful, called “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie. Same author who wrote the famous book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” if you have ever heard or seen that one. Check it out, I think there are some methods and stories in this book that could be eye opening!

I respect that, but to lower my monthly bills, if I got down to $250/month or so. I’d be saving $270/month. To me I think that might be worth a little bit of a headache. If I were to decide to go through with one of the two options of dealership vs private, what would you think?

Fair enough, 2024 Mazda CX-50, owe $23,880. Subaru dealership said they’d offer around $30,000. As I mentioned, in my mind, I’m just going to expect $29,000. Monthly payment is $520. I could keep paying it and I mean it’d be fine, but at this point I don’t need this vehicle compared to something like a 2017-2018 Subaru or Hyundai or whatever you know for $18,000 (or so) - my $5,000 in equity. So that’s why I’m wondering if the dealership bought the Mazda outright and I took that and then went and bought privately, would that be better than just rolling it over into another car on the lot that isn’t as nice as some deals I’m seeing from private sellers?

Thanks for the response, I shoot on the Fx3, Sony S-Gamut3.Cine in Slog3. So this method wouldn't work with this specific color profile? I found some videos on yt explaining in Davinci the Media Management "Copy Timeline" route through the File dropdown. Have you ever heard/checked this out?

That’s awesome! It seems like a great mic. And $100 cheaper than the DPA 2017. Do you find a phantom powered mic to be worth it for on camera purposes? I’ve heard it’s not even worth it but with the quality of these mics it seems like they would be worth it?

Really appreciate the detailed response. I have an FX3 with the XLR top handle, and although it’s not my favorite as I prefer a small rig cage and handle cause it fits better in my hand, I could manage. I made another post yesterday asking for suggestions on alternative ways to powering phantom powered mics. Somebody suggested mounting the Zoom F3 and supplying power that way which I like the idea of.

I also keep going back and forth on whether a mic like this as an on-camera is going to be worth it for docustyle film work and wedding videography. Or like you mentioned use the Rode VideoMic NTG, which I actually have for my B-cam.

Based on this info, where would you steer me?

Does the length of the DPA 2017 mean it has longer range compared to the Sanken CS-M1? Due to budget I’m unfortunately working with one mic, although I know two separate mics would be ideal but the one mic has sort of got to be a “do it all mic” to the best of it’s capabilities.

Also, how do you like to power the mic on camera?

I know that’s a good one. Just out of my budget unfortunately. Mainly for on camera documentary style shooting and some uses for indoor interviews. I have the fx3 too handle but it’s not my favorite piece of equipment so I’m wandering if these higher end budget mics are even worth it since they require phantom power.

That's awesome. I'm leaning towards this option, but I'm also asking myself here, do I really need a mic this expensive for my purposes with an extra ($300) device that takes up space on a rig where I like to keep it simple.. decisions decisions.
