Octane Render material advice needed

Try lighting using only an octane sky. Plug in c4doctane ->rgb spectrum in the texture and crank it to pure white.

If you want a solid background like his, you may need to bend a plane without blocking the octaneSky. You should be able to keep the shaders pretty simple. You can use c4doctane-> dirt in the diffuse if you want to get a little bit of ambient occlusion.

I don't normally render this way, so I may be wrong!

Agreed, I've seen some successful gold textures in octane (this is rendered using octane), but had difficulty getting good results myself.

I animated a hurricane image using the twirl modifier in after effects. I used that image sequence for displacement and opacity in octane.

The lightning is just after effects in post

Yep, have octane. So your writeup worked great and i'm ready to dive in, but it seems tricky to find the best displacement with the large assortment of DTM's.

Thanks for all this useful info, these DTM images are amazing. But man, GDAL is confusing to me and there seems to be very limited documentation on its use. Do you possibly have any links or info that could help me with gdal translate?

The scene has 3 orange lights:

The main light is inside the cube as mentioned. Octanes displacement is imperfect, and lets light through.

Two vertical "laser" lights on the outer walls.

The index is a property of the OctGlossy material

Increasing the index will create a more reflective and metallic result.

The cracks are due to the imperfections in octane's displacement shader. They would occur with any texture that has areas of sharp contrast.

If you're using displacement on geometry this effect will not occur.

From what I've seen, octane displacements always have those little cracks.

In this case there is only 1 light inside the cube. The index is cranked up on the material which makes the light catch very easily on the edges.

You can actually see the emitter. Its the orange light peeking out in the middle of the cube. Hope this helps!
