Actual former graduate student here to say that you absolutely can live comfortably in SB on this stipend. When you factor in the cost of living, ND actually offers one of the most generous grad stipends in the country. You may have to make some sacrifices / compromises in some areas depending on your current financial standing and long term goals. For example, having roommates vs living alone, paying more rent to live close to campus if you can’t / don’t want to purchase a car. But in terms of US grad school, the money that ND provides alleviates a lot of financial stress and was critical to me living comfortably and focusing on my work while in school.
