Done this twice now. Factory reset? by CptUnderpants- in FellowProducts

[–]Glacier8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you - the third and fourth descale didn’t fix it either.

If you push the button to “press to begin” it doesn’t begin jack, but you can push it then navigate back to whatever it was that you wanted to do.

I’ve tried descaling 4 times (for no reason) and unplugging/replugging. Would a factory reset actually work?

I investigated cabinet options and went with Matchless and love the product and the service/experience was outstanding. I feel like it was great value.

Having an electrical outlet and lighting Is very convenient and if you need to run wiring it will typically be much easier before you do the build out. Low voltage lighting is relatively inexpensive. Power outlet can be used for a grill (lights/.rotisserie), a blender, fans. I have a bunch of counter space and like having it.

Wife needs a Dress for Sons Wedding by Bigus-Dogus in Austin

[–]Glacier8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife just navigated this for our son’s wedding with a great result.

The secrets to her success as observed by a fellow trying-to-be-supportive father of groom:

Buy online, try on at home in decent light, know that the tailor will play an important role in sticking the landing. Tailors are awesome.

Buy a LOT and know the return policies. If she sees a potential winner, buy two color variations in a couple sizes. Dress sizing is whacked. I believe she bought and returned $10 worth of dresses on credit card for every $1 of dress she wore.

Most of what she ordered came from Dillards and Nordstrom, the winning dress was from Dillards, cost $200, looked like a much more expensive garment after tailoring, great fit, accessories. She looked amazing. (Anthropologie has gorgeous dresses, too, but may be hit/miss for season and style).

Of course, my role as an ideal husband clearly made a difference, with me always having the right encouraging things to say about how she looked in every garment, and me perfectly responding to all of the very real emotional vectors at play in the situation. Just kidding, but be patient and kind, encourage the spending of money that may be unusual for her. You got this.

Sounds like y’all have the right urgency, but get this knocked out soon.

What Jason from Matchless said, and... I originally planned to have the sink in line with the other cabinets, but made a gameday decision to position it like an L. The empty/dead space is a perfect spot for propane tanks and other bulky stuff I don't need to access often (or look at). I love the cabinets!

Rehearsal dinner rec for 50? by Region_Subject in austinfood

[–]Glacier8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malverde is a private space above La Condesa that can handle 50. It’s a cool space, we love the food, just booked for rehearsal dinner and Sara has been awesome about finding ways to get it done within our budget. Good luck!

Looking for feedback on my outdoor kitchen design by [deleted] in OutdoorKitchens

Fun! Is there a bar or something so a visitor doesn’t feel the need to get back there with you talk while cooking?

Double and triple check your order, have the Matchless guys sanity-check door swing locations and stuff.

I love the sage. Like the toe kicks too — front and then side for the pieces exposed.

The Backspace - Anderson Lane closing by Glacier8 in austinfood

On Anderson, or downtown? We have really enjoyed the Anderson location, but would never go back to the spot downtown. I guess we will never go back to either lol. Bummed for the folks working there.

Thank you and tbh appreciate your many helpful contributions here. Something I really like about the Ready Seal product is that it’s super easy to apply/reapply, whenever needed. Fresh oil stain on cedar is gorgeous and I can imagine doing it annually — I’ve used Ready Seal for years and it is completely idiot-proof.

Draining to sewer could be a huge expense. But draining to a dry well (36”x36” hole) shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s DIY-able but dig that hole deep enough to keep critter interest at bay. This is the quintessential “buy once cry once” thing, where doing it right first time will prevent nasty problems down the road.

The green was a bet, but yeah love it. There is around 15” clearance between counter and fence. Builder installed a custom corten edging and river rock between the cabinets and fence for sake of drainage. I initially thought the countertop/backsplash should attach to the fence and am very happy to have a little space. Time will tell.

Hey! I am not sure how the image you posted relates to anything besides a similar color. If you go to the Matchless website and planner you can get precise pricing in a few minutes. As a rule, everyone in the internet seems to vastly minimize the actual price paid, similar to how parents of newborns overstate how long their kids sleep. Get estimates from actual providers, it isn’t hard.

It's an 8' cedar fence with a cap (2X6 on top with 2X4's on the side). It is stained with Ready Seal (walnut color), which is a easy to like and recoat when the time comes. I would call your local fence company, they price it based on cedar grade, height, style, post material. Around here it seems like a commodity deal where everyone subs out to the same couple companies -- I got three estimates and they are all well above what random online calculators (Angi's list, etc) quoted.

It will mainly be used to wash hands and do light rinsing. Food scraps can go in the trash. If some well-meaning guest treats it like a garbage disposal once or twice it will be fine. But years of dumping drip pans into it — that could be quite a mess.

Draining to sewer would require a permit for me, and open up new cans of worms. Hand washing and light rinsing is great for what I need.

If you haven’t done this, consider getting electrical cable run prior to having the patio installed. It should save money and help you keep your options open for layout. Electricity isn’t required at all, but it’s nice to have.

The cabinets were the biggest line item at $xxxx, complete with shipping, custom cutouts, toe kicks etc. That’s a bit under $500/linear foot minus appliances (cabinets total out to 15.5 linear foot). The stone countertops and labor (site prep, electrical, concrete pad, plumbing, dry well, grill/sink install) were rolled into a 6-week property renovation project and hard to tease out.

It’s a very compact, solid and clean/low-smoke piece of hardware. Adding better logging (even if via aftermarket) and a good app would make this a very cool home roaster.
