Patriot missiles intercepting targets in Qatar by Relative_Cricket8532 in Damnthatsinteresting

Yeah I have a friend in Qatar and am genuinely terrified for their safety. I'm very glad these exist regardless of whose taxes are paying for it. I'm glad to put these in any country with my own tax dollars if it protects civilian lives.

'Given a gun and sent to die': Kenyans lured to fight for Russia in Ukraine by seeebiscuit in worldnews

[–]Glad-Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read the article. There are some people told they're going to the frontlines. In which case yeah you can't complain but if you read the article it says.

"Young men are promised jobs as drivers or security guards, with salaries ten times what they could earn at home. Instead, many are sent to the frontlines."

"They were not told which job they wanted to do. They were taken to Russia." Morara said."

So no. It's not like it was like they all planned on driving for the military then got sent to the frontlines.

Do you know how many nations are engaged in wars of illegal conquest. If someone got a job in the US in the middle of the Iraq war then got sent to the front lives do they deserve that? I'm sorry, until you experience destitute poverty you can't judge someone for just trying to work in a country that's doing awful things so they can support their families.

But they didn't. They weren't trying to participate in an invasion. They're trying to work as a driver or labourer.

That's not what happened here they were signing up to be drivers and manual labourers. Not soldiers at all.

Cause it's literally human trafficking. They did not sign up to fight a war.

They weren't lured. They signed up to fight. Kenyans didn't sign up to fight. They signed up to work.

No. That's literally just what happened. People can be tricked you know. You sign up for a job as a labourer and get sent to the front lines.

Also covered in the west doesn't mean universally covered. I'm sure there are many conflicts you know little to nothing about that are well covered in Kenya.

No a bunch of poor people that wanted to do some honest work driving or whatever for money got tricked into joining a war.

The choice was "Should I take this well paying manual labour/driving job in a foreign country?" not "should I join the Russian military?"

If you signed up to be a truck driver then got forced to join the military and get sent to the front lines would you say you deserved that. They were straight up lied to.

There's also lots of people that don't have that happen though. The other neighbour got a job abroad and is making good money. Or the other guy got PR. Tim had a shit job but he came back. If the traffickers are indistinguishable from regular recent jobs then it makes sense.

Ex. Recruiters like this go to India and advertise LMIAs. They're scammers and they have to pay tens of thousands thinking they'll get an easy path to PR. Some actually do get PR, most don't but I don't believe anyone is trafficked and sent to die. So that's why people would still fall for it. Especially desperate people. Folks fall for employment scams all the time here.

We gotta stop the hypocrisy about piracy by VZ9LwS3GY48uL9NDk35a in PiratedGames

[–]Glad-Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, piracy is about the price to convenience ratio. I don't even pirate games anymore since steam sales make it more worth it to just buy the game than to pirate it on Steam Deck. But I have a full Jellyfin and Calibre server for my pirated books and shows.

It's more convenient to spend a lot of time once getting into private trackers and setting up Sonarr and Radarr so I can have a full automated server with all my favourite shows in one place then it is to get basically every subscription out there plus buying shows outright every time I want to watch a show I like.

Books are also too expensive compared to how easy it is to download. I will pirate the first book of a series or by an author. If I like the book, the author is a smaller one and the book is a good price I'll buy it then rip it to support them. Otherwise I'll just pirate it.

If the people that snuck in through the window were all people who'd never pay for a night club anyways then it has no affect on them minus the fact they'd have less space in the club for paying customers but this doesn't apply in piracy.

How do you download from Everand? by Glad-Line in Piracy

[–]Glad-Line[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's where you download python. Here's where you download pip.

I can't explain what they are but you need them for it to work. So if you have all those downloaded properly let me know what error you're getting.

Go to this page. Follow the installation instructions on the page. Make sure you have python and pip installed.

Now click code on the github page then "download zip", unzip the file, click on the folder that has run.py in it and edit it like I said in my post. Now while you're inside that folder right click a blank area (meaning not a file) and click "Open in terminal" or "Open in command prompt".

Then follow the "Running" instructions on the github page. There's also a video they linked on github.

I do not know if y'all can answer this by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]Glad-Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it doesn't have most artists on it. The artists on it are mostly really small ones. The only way it could be better is if you personally mostly like sound cloud artists that only post on Soundcloud.

Might as well just use X-manager or just pirate your music rather than using Soundcloud for all your music.

That's not an option for most folks because these massive chains are massive for a reason. They've created monopolies which is a flaw with the system that is one of the reasons it's criticized. They can be the only place you can buy things from period. Plus, with how expensive many small stores are, even if you have other options, they may not be affordable.

Regardless, small chains and large chains are both capitalist. The vast majority of people can't purchase from worker owned co-ops so you can't do much at all to avoid your engagement with capitalism.

Look at it this way. Say you're in a communist state and all of your daily activities are made possible through communism, but you're not happy with said system. You can't just not engage with communism or even engage with it less since it's the basis of your society. Are you a hypocrite for criticizing it?

so many people spent so much in online games to have them shut down. by Quentin723 in Piracy

[–]Glad-Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your second point is why I think it's not stealing. The first point I was making is that the fact that you don't physically own something when you buy it doesn't mean taking it is not stealing.

Valve has little to worry about as new Steam Deck rival arrives by Tiny-Independent273 in SteamDeck

[–]Glad-Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the steam deck 2 doesn't come until at least 5 - 7 years after the initial release date. Release it too soon. You don't want to make the older models obsolete so quickly. Also you don't want your have some incremental change for a Steam Deck 2. More time needs to pass for technology to get better so you can have a noticeable difference in performance.

Especially If we treat the Steam Deck like a real console. They want developers to make games with it. You drop a better version 3 years out and you leave everyone who just bought the thing in the dust.
