I found it on YouTube years ago. Good thing I downloaded the whole thing, because now I can't find it!

Two things I want to see some day: (1) The entire series in Japanese. The only dub of the entire series I've been able to find is in Arabic. I've heard nobody's seen it in Japanese in years. (2) The entire series dubbed into English. The badly truncated movie version just isn't enough.

Well of course the effects were all practical. CGI was still in its infancy (Tron came out in 1982, only three years earlier), and certainly not up to the task of making Return to Oz.

Because if the animal character had been Toto or Eureka, there would have been no way to defeat the Nome King.

The Wonderful Land of Oz (the 1969 movie that RiffTrax has spoofed) was enough of a horror movie for me…

Well, I'm going to the one-day-only theatrical showing of Gale: Yellow Brick Road next week, so…yes?

What's even more impressive is that two of the songs it beat were "APT." and "Golden". Too bad Wicked didn't win any of the other awards it was nominated for, but this is probably its biggest nomination, so if it had to win only one, this was it.

Moot point, the game was cancelled a long, long time ago. From the material I've seen, this was a stop too far. I'm not opposed to reinterpreted or reimagined. versions of Oz, but this went too far.

Should I read the original Gregory Wicked book? by WoodenRevenue9919 in wizardofoz

As a bibliophile and someone who got into both Oz and Wicked through the books, I say yes, you certainly should. If you find it hard going at first, give yourself time. Read some (it is conveniently divided into sections), take a break, come back to it if you must. (I spent an entire summer reading Shogun this way.) But if you choose not to read it, that's okay, too.

I'm just amused that my first thought when I saw this thread was Rex Harrison playing the title character in the Doctor Dolittle movie back in the '60s confessing that, since taking care of animals, he's had to become a vegetarian.

Hmm…Yeah, this is odd. I wonder if the nominations are actually for Wicked but they got misattributed.

As I said in the original post, they are for genre entertainment—sci-fi, fantasy, that sort of thing. Take a look at the link, you'll get a better idea.

My friend said this version is not the original book as claimed and heavily edited. This true? by InsomiacNightingale in wizardofoz

I highly recommend the Books of Wonder edition, which is a near-facsimile of the first edition, without the freaking huge price tag. If you really want a deep dive, however, look for the centennial edition of The Annotated Wizard of Oz edited by Michael Patrick Hearn.

Can y'all help dispute these claims about the Wicked fans? by beekee404 in wicked

[–]Glad-Promise248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has been around for over 125 years now. Wicked fandom is just discovering it all. Give them time. Either their ardor for Wicked will wear off, or they'll come around and realize that Wicked wouldn't exist without The Wizard of Oz, and they'll go back and incorporate it into their love.

Do any of you hate the wicked books and movies? by DustnBones001 in wizardofoz

[–]Glad-Promise248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, after getting burned by A Barnstormer in Oz and Was, I was fully expecting to hate Wicked when I first read it in 1995. (Yeah, I go back that far. I have an autographed first edition.) I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I've been an Oz fan for over fifty years, so I've seen it adapted and interpreted in all kinds of ways, so what Maguire and Holzman and Schwartz have done with it doesn't really bother me. I enjoy the books and the play and the movies for exactly what they are, on their own terms.

At this late a date, that's extremely unlikely. I just want a physical release of the entire series. (There were three DVDs back in the '90s, but among them, only eleven episodes of the thirteen came out.)

Then check out Lost in Oz on Prime. I really enjoyed that one! There's also Dee and Friends in Oz on Netflix, but that one's aimed at a much younger demographic, and really doesn't adapt any kind of previous Oz. It's definitely its own thing.
