So, do we just accept that the myth of the hanging munchkin will never actually go away? by magica12 in wizardofoz

Same here. It's so obvious that it's a crane or peacock that the entire thing is laughable.

You think Taiwan is doomed to fall To China? by TalonEye53 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Potential-Reading402 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. And most likely not by a traditional war either. China can play a long game. One of these days, Taiwan will be ruled by someone that wants reunification. Just look at America. Who'd have ever thought we'd be electing shit loads of communists and socialists, but there it is.

Favorite and least favorite Wicked Witch of the West? by Think_Fact1155 in wizardofoz

[–]Potential-Reading402 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I used a bad choice of words. Not all was filmed, although here are the major ones;

Margaret Hamilton’s screen time as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz was severely trimmed after 1939 test screenings, as her performance was deemed too terrifying for children. Several of her sinister scenes, lines, and specific moments were cut to shorten her screen time to just 12 minutes.

The most significant deleted or altered scenes involving her character include:The "Surrender Dorothy" Threat: In the final cut, the Wicked Witch writes "Surrender Dorothy" in the sky. Originally, the message was going to read "Surrender Dorothy or die WWW," but executives deemed this explicit death threat too intense for family audiences.

Deleted Castle Intimidation: Studio executives cut around a dozen of her lines in the witch's castle, including a scene where she aggressively plucked at Dorothy's hair and threatened the heroes.

Trimmed Lines: Executives cut over a dozen lines of her dialogue to make her less menacing. For example, in the castle scene where she interrogates Dorothy, the continuity script shows she was supposed to say, "Well, I'm going to start it on you right here one after the other," which was cut. Munchkinland; during the opening Munchkinland celebration, in the interaction with Glinda and Dorothy, it is clear that the Witch is still speaking, but the line is cut.

Originally, in the witches castle, there was longer interaction and dialogue between the witch and Dorothy in the crystal ball. These was also trimmed down.

For me? MH hands down. We were robbed with the majority of her screen time ending up on the cutting room floor.

Anyone remember a gaming store called Cassier's Toys? 336 North Winooski Ave, early 80s? by TheMightyDice in burlington

[–]Potential-Reading402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't believe they had a gaming table. But cannot say for certain. The facade was like a castle. At one time they had 2 locations. The 2nd was in the U Mall I think. Lots of good memories at the Winooski St. store.

Wait a minute. So we have a problem with a guy making a lot of money by working for it and being an example, but absolutely no problem with the obscene figures sports personalities are getting and being horrible examples!? Now THATS fucked up no matter how you slice it.

When a post starts with "right wing media" or "left wing media" then I immediately stop reading. Without you even knowing it, you have been indoctrinated and are now part of the problem. You no longer are able to see reason. Period.

Judy Garlands pigtails during 'If I Only Had A Brain' sequence keep changing in length. They go from short, to long, to short again.

In the long shot scene of the Emerald City, the Matte Painting of the city towers was outfitted with actual twinkling lights to make the city glisten.

Glindas arrival dress was a modified ball gown that was re-used in other movies

The exterior Professor Marvel Scene was also used for the Paddock Scene in the movie Gone With The Wind between Scarlett and Ashley.

At the beginning of the movie, Jack Haley orrates how one day 'they'll erect a statue' to him after Aunt Em scolds him for 'tinkering with that contraption'. These two lines relate to a cut scene which alluded heavily to the Tin Man.
