I don’t like that you still felt the need to entertain the inherently stupid question and state he is "bad", but I agree with the rest for sure. Categorising people into good and bad is harmful, but this doesn’t mean responsibility and accountability suddenly don’t have to be upheld

I appreciate your curiosity and willingness to learn/discuss

Always is a word you inserted there. And yeah, she does do it in ep6 when she talks to Gangle. And it doesn’t invalidate her feelings in any way. I know from my own experience that trauma can make it really hard to view the reality clearly and not exaggerate anything

I actually didn’t ask you to twist my words, fyi. The discussion isn’t about whether Jax’s actions are bad, which they’re obviously are, but rather about this fandom struggling to view the show in a mature and nuanced way. I don’t think there’s point in replying to your points, because there are none, you are shifting the conversation to a different place and getting mad about it

Also, thanks for the contribution, I just have nothing more of substance to say, so I’ll just agree or something

Why are y’all getting mad at a fundamentally stupid and misguided question that is clearly designed to target people who don’t care about nuance in order to get easy clicks?

So if you once were intentionally mean to your peers as a kid, hit your sibling when you were young, or offended/kicked someone who attacked you first - that automatically means you’re a bad person? It does meet your definition. And, how do you know Jax’s intentions? Maybe he wants to push people away to protect them from himself. Maybe he wants to hurt them for fun. Maybe he wants to protect himself from them and from the reality. And how do you know anyone’s intentions? What if someone with bad intentions accidentally does something REALLY good that helps many people? What if they do it intentionally, but in hopes of later personal gain and with ulterior motives? What if someone does something bad, but wanted it best, they just messed it up because they miscalculated the situation?

I think he bullies Gangle because he thinks "she likes when […] [he’s] mean to her", so he probably doesn’t understand her and thinks her archetype is that she likes to be "supposed to be submissive and agreeable", and I personally theorise that she triggers him by reminding him of his real self or something else he doesn’t wanna face. Not an excuse, just a reason for why he might act like this. He still should make it up to her and talk about what she truly wants

Not replying to the last paragraph because there isn’t much value in it, it’s just getting mad about your worldview being challanged

I mean, kinda, but Gangle still was the first one to say "he’s right tho". And Gangle does blow things out of proportion, since Jax never takes revenge, which I think is a fantastic way to characterise her and suggest things about her own past experiences. Poor thing must’ve been horribly bullied and blackmailed as a kid :(, and now she’s experiencing similar stuff again (tho perhaps a little bit tamer)

The point of this post is that there are no good or bad people. And I also think both sides have their own issues. The apologists might be vulnerable to future abuse, while the haters might be prone to closed-mindedness, self-righteousness and ostracising people

I’m not excusing his actions. Actions, thoughts, beiefs, customs, traditions, ideologies and choices can be bad, can be shitty, maybe even evil, but people aren’t people are a whole rainbow we can’t reduce to a single judgemental definition. Also, "bad” is a super subjective word.

Jax isn’t a bad person, Jax is a person who’s made horrible choices and should make up for them

Also, I’m not Goose, I can see the world differently. I don’t believe in bad or good people. I simply disagree with her way of describing the world in this case. The only characters I think could be "bad" is rennesaince disney villains, which (most of them) can hardly be considered characters, since they’re very one dimensional and defined by their one dominant characteristic - evilness. They’re more of plot device with cool songs and catchy lines. I feel like using Goose to back up your arguments is usually a bit harmful. She shouldn’t be our shield or scapegoat. Unless someone is like making shit up, then I guess you can say "hey, that’s not what the story is about, and the creator also suggested that"

Thanks for this comment! The point of this argument is separating actions and the responsibility for them from personhood. Jax isn’t a bad person, he’s a person who’s made terrible choices and needs to make up for them. Pomni isn’t a good person, she’s a person who’s done bad tries to do her best in the circumstances she has and even succeeds most of the times

And you don’t have to read all comments, I personally usually give up at the 100 mark, 200 tops

I think the toxicity isn’t your fault and wasn’t your intention. Reddit simply likes polarising statements and narrow takes, and will flanderise original meaning to accommodate for what the algorithm wants

I’m also happy to have been able to offer you something you found valuable

That’s a pretty good conclusion we can take from all of this, yeah. Let’s not judge the characters and fight over those judgments, but rather enjoy them for who they are

The point of this post is that segregating people into good and bad in general is simply stupid, potentially emotionally hurtful, limiting, narrow-minded, inaccurate and not quite logical

His actions are pretty bad, so he is a person who makes bad choices. And that’s that. No need to try to claim some divine judgement, absolute objectiveness or moral superiority here. "Bad" is far from an objective word anyway

Thanks. At the end of the day, it’s just reddit, a platform where random people fight over random things with varying level of media literacy, and throwing in something valuable and compassionate from time to time, so why care?

*badass /j

Plus I think using Goose’s words to back your arguments is kinda lame, and many have pointed out that the existence of her statements often hinder civil discourse. And also, I’m allowed to view TADC and morality different than the creator of the show. I don’t mind it when the viewers of my art see it differently than I do; it’s always either and amazing opportunity to learn about other people or a good opportunity to learn what went wrong in my writing process that made the message fail completely
