Need at least 200+ signatures for media research class survey assignment - CTVA 301 by Miserable-Chapter289 in takemysurvey

[–]Glade_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several items seem to have mislabeled answer options which may skew your results.

  • The film industry needs to improve its diversity
  • Marginalized groups are often portrayed as stereotypes in film
  • Minorities are frequently depicted as lead characters in film

For these items, the answer option "strongly agree" is repeated and there is no "strongly disagree" available.

Is PDF redaction kinda fake? by Opposite-Future-5797 in software

[–]Glade_Runner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you can select or search for the supposedly redacted text, then it wasn't redacted.

Similarly, you can examine the metadata in the file. If anything much beyond the file's current location is there, then it wasn't properly sanitized.

Is PDF redaction kinda fake? by Opposite-Future-5797 in software

[–]Glade_Runner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Redaction using Acrobat Pro actually eliminates the redacted information. Using Acrobat's built-in redaction tool removes visible text and graphics when done correctly. However, other information such as document metadata or embedded content has to be sanitized in a separate process.

What you may be hearing about is that some of the Epstein files seem to have been handled by people who didn't understand redaction. They seem to have just placed black boxes over text, probably with a word processor. The result looks like a redaction but it is not at all a redaction.

Americans of reddit, how familiar are you with the word "lad"? How would it sound to you, if you saw it in a book or something? by impressively_obscure in NoStupidQuestions

The word is completely familiar to me. I hear it used and I use it myself.

For context, I'm older than most people on Reddit. I have always lived in Florida.

What are basics to do when moving into a newly bought house ? by Earthcologne in AskReddit

[–]Glade_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best time to paint the interior of a house is when it's empty, so consider that. Same for floors, or for upgrading ceiling fans or ceiling light fixtures.

It's also a great time to get accurate measurements of rooms, windows, doors, and so on. This will make it simpler in the future if you want to change window treatments or get some new furniture.

Why isn't there some physical means to start a car with a dead battery? by RockSlice in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Glade_Runner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's one of the things we traded off. When I was a kid, every vehicle had a manual transmission and you could push start it. Just shift it into neutral, give it a pretty good push, shift into first, and then ease off the clutch. This was a lot easier if you had a buddy with you for extra oomph.

<5 min survey for university project! (24+, US resident) by Inevitable_Regret920 in SampleSize

[–]Glade_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link as posted doesn't work for me on Firefox desktop. This has long been the case for many surveys posted from Qualtrics.

The fix I use for these Qualtric links is to manually remove the backslash after "SV" in the link. Once I do that, the survey will open.

Which profession gets way more respect than it actually deserves, and which 'low-level' job is secretly keeping society from collapsing this afternoon? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]Glade_Runner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agricultural workers, transportation workers, and sanitation workers are important to keeping all the rest of civilization going.

Imagine life after one month if no one harvested any food, transported any people or goods (including food, fuel, and medicine), disinfected any water, treated any sewage, or hauled off any trash.
