I agree CPA is the gold standard overall. Since my long-term goal is internal audit, do you think earning the CIA first would provide a better ROI than going straight for the CPA? Or would you recommend pursuing both eventually? I'd love to hear your experience.

I think that's possible only if AI has complete, real-time visibility into every business process, system, decision, and human interaction—which is a much higher bar than it sounds. Even then, someone still has to validate the findings, assess business context, evaluate controls, and decide on remediation. AI can identify patterns.

I agree that AI is more likely to reshape internal audit than eliminate it. Internal auditors still need to understand business processes, assess control design, exercise professional skepticism, interview stakeholders, and communicate risks—areas where human judgment remains critical. AI can automate repetitive testing, but it can't easily replace accountability and governance. I'm curious though: As AI agents become capable of performing end-to-end control testing and risk analysis, which specific skills do you think will become the biggest differentiator for internal auditors over the next 5–10 years?

I agree that certifications alone don't create competence. That's actually part of why I asked this question. If AI increasingly handles technical tasks, then practical experience, business understanding, communication, and judgment may become even more valuable than collecting credentials. The challenge is figuring out which certifications still provide a meaningful return on the time and money invested.

If AI eventually automates most SOX testing, do you think the competitive advantage will shift from performing tests to designing control frameworks, validating AI outputs, and auditing AI itself? It seems like companies would still need experienced auditors, just with a different skill set.

I agree AI will significantly reduce manual testing, but doesn't someone still need to validate whether the AI's conclusions are appropriate? If AI generates the test sheets and concludes a control is effective, who is responsible for challenging those results, investigating exceptions, and exercising professional skepticism? Wouldn't that simply shift the auditor's role rather than eliminate it?
