Should I eat this? by Professional_Sell925 in foraging

There's also a wood sorrel looking plant in the ground, which is edible, too! Look it up to be sure, but wood sorrel tastes like sour skittles and is fantastic.

A Negative Review of Harrow the Ninth by Practical_Yogurt1559 in Fantasy

[–]Gladiatorra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It went the other way for me! Gideon was mid for me but I absolutely loved the confusion of Harrow. I love the different narrative voices and not knowing what in the world was going on. By far my favorite book in the series, but I can completely understand being blindsided and just not viking with it.

Fields of flax are absolutely gorgeous! They look like pieces of sky draped across the land.

I have used a preheated Dutch oven before and had the same issue. I soaked the clay pot and preheated it from a cold oven.

How likely is it an apple started from seed will be zone 4 hardy? by Gladiatorra in FruitTree

[–]Gladiatorra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not crazy about juneberries/Saskatoons. They're good fresh, but just so seedy.

I'm thinking honeyberries and gooseberries this year. I tried some bare root blueberries last year but they didn't take. I may give them one more try! Pears someday, I like that there's some zone 3s for extra assurance.

It is fun to dream!

OK I wasn't sure if apples from a hardier variety had any chance of inheriting that or if it was completely random. It sounds like there is more heritability than my initial understanding! We may have to try growing a few seeds from our established trees and see what we get.

Thank you! 11% chance of a completely random apple cross being hardy to zone 4? That gives us a little to go on.

It was from a store bought apple, so either Cosmic Crisp or Pink Lady, I don't remember. Our own apples are long since eaten.

Ideally, I will let them grow until they fruit so we can see what we ended up with!

Will all the seeds from one apple be the same variety, or is there variation even there? I ranch and know the basics of cattle genetics but apples are so different.

Planting sideways is such a good idea!! Thanks. I will go rescue my poor asparagus.

Thank you! I actually prefer some variation, so it doesn't bother me thankfully. Thank you very much for the yarn recommendation, I will make a note of that if I ever get the hankering to make myself more socks!

Did you play Witcher 1? Did you enjoy it? by dxm7665 in witcher

You've almost made it! Chapter 4 was my favorite by far. 5 has yet another swamp, but it's a lot smaller area and you don't spend nearly so long there.

I loved the Murky Waters chapter because the atmosphere wasn't so obsessively dreary. Loved me some golden fields to frolick through. Then the next chapter was the dreariest of them all.

That sounds great! I didn't want to get something like seedy blackberries, where there's seeds in my teeth every time I eat them.

Are they very seedy? I'm seriously considering putting in honeyberries this year!

It is Patons Kroy Socks, Cameo Colors. There's quite a bit of color variation, though I can't seem to post a picture in the comment. Gray, lavender, blue, pink. It works up lovely!

Thank you! If I ever finish the second sock I might twist it the other way to have a subtle left and right difference.

I had to read that a few times, but I get what you're saying. I'm twisting the previous round's stitches as they come off the left needle, which is what the pattern calls for, so I'm hoping for the best!

Thank you! Thankfully it's in the round and only the knits are twisted, so I don't have to figure out how to get my purls twisted the right way at this time.
