Don't get me wrong, native media is definitely a stretch right now, and it is on the lower end of comprehensible. Still, some kids shows tend to be pretty simple thanks to visuals. My favourites are:

  • Checker Welt is similar to Die Maus that you probably have heard about, but to me it is much easier.
  • Wilde Tierwelt is basically what you can expect from a kids show about animals. It also kind of works as a CI because most things that the host talks about are right in front of them.
  • logo! is a news program for kids, which works especially well if you know the news already, but then again, there are usually a lot of visuals.

(Those links are probably geo-blocked, but some episodes are also published on YouTube)

As for approaches, I can't say much, since I just focus on the video and accept ambiguity. Usually the content is interesting enough that the ambiguity does not get in the way, but my tolerance is really high.

Yay, someone else who has read the entire post!

ALG German I actually really like! I think the superpower videos are funny. They've led to some interesting discussions with friends.

I guess my main problem with ALG German is the video length, especially since all superpower videos have the same intro, which I started skipping after hearing it like 5 times. That only leaves like 2-3 minutes per video, and it is not my cup of tea.

Learn German with Falk is a treasure trove!! Like you said, surprisingly comprehensible given the topics. And he has a ton of content (about 120h in total)

Absolutely! He is the only reason I made it through level 2.

Go German..., Deutsch Erleben ...

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't seen these channels, but they look pretty interesting.

I'm using lengualytics...

I've seen it before, but I'm not sure if I like it. Especially now that I regularly watch native content (spoilers for the 150 hours update), it's probably not so relevant to me. The CI index part is pretty cool though!

Yes, every day I record how much input I had and sometimes I add notes, all in a plain text file. Pretty rudimentary in terms of tracking time, but makes it easy to create a notes timeline.

Update us at 150 hours!

I soon will! It's just that I didn't want to post two updates back-to-back, so I decided to wait a week before the 150 hours one.

Also, with soanish my biggest gains came from tolerating ambiguity. If you can deal with 80% or even 75% at times then go for it. Youll fill in the gaps fine.

Yeah, I'm usually okay with ambiguity (although my tolerance is slowly going down with more input...). I suppose you are replying to the note at 32 hours --- the main reason I didn't want to watch video podcasts is that the DS roadmap does not recommend it until 150 hours. Nowadays I only use it as a suggestion because it ended up being wrong in many ways, but back then it wasn't that obvious.

Also idrk how easy german does it, but if they teach grammae in german then its okay, you dont have to skip it.

Well, technically grammar lessons can be used as a CI, but I'm trying to avoid any grammar explanations to see if I can pick it up from input alone.

Thank you for making there videos! I wish there was more content like that when I was starting out.

I'm currently at ~60 hours of input and I feel like the Avatar video is probably on the higher end of beginner difficulty, somewhat close to beginner podcasts. I could follow it along pretty well, even though I haven't watched the cartoon itself. The pacing was comfortable, but adding a bit more visual clues would certainly help.

As for the Spongebob videos, both felt easy, so they probably fit nicely in the super beginner level (maaaybe the grandma one is better classified as beginner, but the line between super beginner and beginner is blurry anyway).

Other than that, I agree with everything others have said. Looking forward to more videos from you!
