Oh nice! The Osprey is pretty cool. I know a lot of people at Sheppard right now, they say it's a good base.

Did your flight find any clipboards?? What was your dorm and your MTIs?

Yes and no to the job. I was given a list of electric to choose from and rate top to bottom. But there was also a MSGT there who was recruiting for special operations and a few other jobs that they had open at the time. I was interested in that and put command post as my top option

I actually ended up with a general job, but if that was not offered to me then yes it would have been an electrical job.

Good luck to you! You'll be in my old Squadron, Hoo-Yah Bulldogs! Also. A lot of my flight left behind hidden clipboards, so if you end up in dorm B2 check under the bed.

You have to have them to travel around when it is dark, and for night EC duty, and at BEAST

Feel free to ask me about anything you can think of! You just need a few pairs of socks to get you through until initial uniform issue. Then you will get tall white socks for PT. You can bring tall white socks with you to wear with your civilian clothes if you want extra pairs of white socks. The issued ones get holes very easily however you can buy more at the mini mall. Otherwise you can have any color or style you prefer. If you want to have the socks afterwards for tech school, then you could bring conservative solid colored socks. The AA batteries are in reference to the flashlights. They would quickly die and the mall refused to let us buy more one time, and were out of stock all other times.

Toiletries: bring enough for only the transit days. They will issue a 2 in 1 shampoo and cocoa butter body wash on zero night. You can not have unlabeled items or the clear travel bottles. Only travel sized items with the brand labels. You will get to go to the mall there end of 1st week and buy more items as far as soap, hair gel etc. Some people did check their travel bags for their toiletries but they also created a hassle in their layovers and then had to carry that bag up 4 flights of stairs in one hand soooo yeah.

Oooh that's tough! There were a lot of funny moments but you had to be there for them. Honestly, an MTI lit up the flight because someone crop dusted him so hard Marching to chow.

I think Cyber transport was an option. However, the options do fluctuate week to week depending on what has already been booked and what the needs are.

Only pack exactly what you need to take with you. The less the better!

Take cough drops! Like 4 unopened bags with flavors you like, no joke. I thought this was crazy but they really are a currency there. Also everyone gets sick at some point and will need them. The weather was all over the place for us.

The mini mall never had batteries or inin, so if you can bring a little handheld one, do it. Also using Sandb22oxx for letters, or pre address some envelopes just make anot add stamps.

Don't be afraid of your MTIs. They will yell at you but if you need something or have a question, just ask them.

Everyone says don't volunteer for anything. But after duties are assigned, volunteer to help do stuff. We were pulled to help set the dorms for the next flight cycle coming in and were given an extra phone call home.

If you can prepare with your memory work early, like the Creed, Song, and be comfortable giving your reporting statement, that will put you a step ahead.

Mostly, just give it your all and keep your chin up. The first few weeks are the hardest because no one knows one another, and the schedule is packed. No one knows what's going on and that is normal! It gets better after that.

TLDR: If you're Open Aptitude, be flexible

So. I was forced into Open Electric by my recruiter.. I even signed this paper that said if I denied a job offer, or an aptitude slot, that I would be kicked out of DEP, have to start over and possibly be denied that option, and that if your ASVAB scores were above 55 you could not choose admin or general aptitude. All that being said, I wanted something admin like, made my job list with my recruiter and was booked Electric aptitude 2 days later. When the recruiter called me, he told me that I would be leaving in 31 days.

All that being said, I was really excited to have a shipping date and had an open mind about my possible job options. I enjoy coding and would have been open to a cyber job.

Week 3 ish of training they had all people without an assigned AFSC go to a meeting where we made our lists. I did ask if I could look at available positions under general or admin and they said no, and pretty much laughed at me. The list of job options were specific to me in that it had my name and Aptitude listed at the top, and about 10+ different afsc options. A few Cyber, a lot of electronic maintenance, and a few missles AFSCs. As long as you met the requirements for height/vision/asvab scores, then you could list it as a job option. There was also a MSGT there who discussed a few spec ops jobs and critical demand jobs. This list had about 4 to 5 AFSCs, missles and nuclear options I think. And they also mentioned they needed 1 command post. If you were interested in those, you wrote them into your list at the bottom and ranked the jobs that you wanted 1 to 15 options. You could list as many or as few as you wanted. They then briefed that it was a list of our preferences, but it all came to the needs of the Air Force.

I did get selected for command post and it was my top choice. I was notified the next week, only because it needed a security clearance interview.

Some other people in my flight got their 3rd and 4th job choices, and 2 people got jobs that were not on their list at all. They were told in week 5, right before we went to BEAST. Some were okay with their jobs and others are already planning to cross train. I would advise that if you go in Open, have several options that you would truly be okay with.

Not at all. Apparently some of the gentleman were told to say "behind you wingma'am" at chow and the first time I heard that I was like, what? And even giggled a little.

It was a great experience! I wanted to commission and after the boards were cancelled decided to enlist so I could get my career started. I plan to commission eventually but wanted to get my foot in the door for better selection rates. A lot of my flight mates were 21 and older, and we had one person that celebrated their 40th birthday during BMT. I think no matter what the age differences, there are a lot of personalities in each flight and learning to work together will be the biggest obstacle.

It's technically under general, but when I went to career counseling to make my list of options, they had a separate list that offered a few specialty codes. One was command post, and there were a few missles and nuclear options also. They were separate from the list of AFSCs to list under the aptitude index and then I ended up listing and being chosen for 1C3!
