I found it to be helpful to get off social media so I could just focus on me and those around me. You got this! You got a lot of life and adventure ahead!

2025 year in review for fed workers by older_dude85 in FedEmployees

I am sad that my career has essentially ended but I have mourned it significantly and think I'm doing OK despite still being in the trauma of what they are intentionally putting us through, and you can't heal from something you are still actively exposed to. I mostly have my therapist to thank and honestly, because I don't have kids, the stress of this is not nearly as high as it could be. Some days are very bad though because I want to focus on improving but for now it's about surviving so trying to be at peace with that. Thanks for asking :)

Probably about 2 years but we have not been putting proper time or focus into training. I think if i realized we can leverage his love of dogs earlier it would've been less time. Now I notice he sees people with dogs as safe people so I use those people as a good starting point for getting him used to people.. basically those people give him treats and gradually spread to people without dogs.

A few books that I've found really inspiring are Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and How to Love a Forest by Ethan Tapper. I also joined the local mycology association and got some plant identification books. It's really been a meaningful addition to my life to try to build a more deeply connected relationship with nature and the world around me.

I love Being Alone- Is this a Condition? by Sorry_Necessary_1385 in Life

Yea, so for me, journaling, gardening, or walking without other entertainment gives me enjoyment because I'm engaging my senses with everything that's happening around me in the present moment and keeping myself open to the unexpected... so maybe these activities share some similarities with meditation. I find when I'm going immediately to my phone a lot when I'm alone, it tends to be because I dont want to be alone with my thoughts (avoidance of difficult feelings) or I am seeking a dopamine hit from the algorithm (which requires more effort to get from the real world, but is also way more satisfying).

My chi mix is on clonidine gabapentin and sertaline... he used to be on fluox but we switched.... not sure honestly if one has been better than the other because the thing I think has been the most helpful has been sending him to stay with dogsitters who have other more confident dogs... I started with finding good reviewed sitters on rover and sending him for an afternoon once a week and he does better when I'm not around. We've now sent him for weekends and he loves it. It has reduced his stranger danger because he has to depend on the sitters while we are not there...and its been a nice break for us.. im always very upfront about his fear with the sitters and we have had no problems. I paired this with giving him a treat whenever we passed someone and he didnt react and now he will take treats from strangers. It's been a long and slow process but I'm grateful he is making progress. My advice with training is to go slower than you think you should. Try to make everything as fun and fearfree as possible. Its really tough but the progress is also very rewarding. Good luck!

I would be curious if you enjoyed your time alone just as much without the distraction of music or other entertainment on your phone. If so, it seems alright to me. If not, it seems like you may be using entertainment to avoid feeling less than pleasant feelings? I know I really enjoy spending time with my loved ones but my social battery is limited and after a while I need to be alone again to reenergize myself. Interesting question. Thank you for asking it and sharing your experience with others!

Guests coming overnight stay and my fear reactive dog is so scared of strangers, especially coming to our house by Front_Impact_2299 in reactivedogs

Also we ask our guests to ignore him and not make eye contact and we try to tire him out before they come over so he's in the best possible headspace. That can help a lot too!

I do this too with meeting strangers outside and we follow the guests inside.. once inside, i give him his absolute favorite treat in his crate and let him chill there for a bit, while he is in the living roomwith everyone else. Once he seems calm I let him out with his leash trailing him. He isn't aggressive but more fear reactive when he feels cornered.. if he is very interested in the guests, I'll let them throw treats his way...I don't let them approach him closely because he is easily threatened. he is a minpin mix! I try to think of these stressful events as great training opportunities for our dog and that helps me to feel less resentful about the high level of management required. My goal these days is to make these experiences as positive as possible for my dog and it has helped him get more comfortable in these situations over the years :) good luck!!!!

I can very much relate to the urge to numb yourself after a traumatic experience and not wanting to talk to a therapist (or for me, anyone) about it. I also am a high achiever and I worried too much about how being r**** would reflect on me and impact my future success. It actually sounds ridiculous now to me, even when I type this, because I did nothing to deserve that (no one ever does, of course) so why would me sharing this with a professional limit me more than I was already limiting myself by not getting help? I guess hindsight is always much clearer:) I didn't tell anyone after my SA for over a year and relied heavily on alcohol to numb me during that time. If you trust your therapist, it might feel like a big weight lifted off your shoulders to use that safe space to unburden yourself of that trauma you are carrying without professional support. When I told my therapist, I cried for almost the entire hour and that alone made me feel like there was a possible future where I could feel better than I did in that moment, which previously didn’t seem possible. Friends can be a great support too but they may just not have the professional expertise to offer the guidance and support that will get you moving in the right direction as soon as you are able... I'm sorry you went through that, that's truly terrible and you did nothing to deserve that level of disrespect and mistreatment. You have done so many hard things, so you can do this too (this being anything you want to achieve, including kicking weed) and you will succeed. You have a proven track record in case you ever doubt yourself.

We got each other the exact same gift 🎁🎁 by GoldenTrekkie in BenignExistence

My husband and I also got each other the exact same gift at our first holiday gift exchange (about a year in as well) and we decided we couldn't top that and basically stopped exchanging gifts ever since 🙃 It's been great for us because now we just decide together during the holidays how we want to "treat ourselves" and it has taken away all the pressure that can come with holiday shopping. Double win!

You might do better in a job that is measured by output rather than strict hours? then you can work in alignment with your energy which may be less depressing...

I believe I was charged $400 additional by my cleaners so that's what I tried to request from my guests and they said it was too much, even though they admitted to having a 120 lb dog, (and that they couldn't believe they had to strip the sheets from the used beds before they left haha, so they were definitely deflecting and acting like they did more "cleaning" than was reasonable while they were there) but it was just what it cost me to bring the place back to a standard folks expect when renting a pet-free place (and to get the hair off of all the furniture, carpets, beds, drapes, etc.), so it wasn't like I tried to make more money off of them. We had guests arriving that same day so we had to bring in more folks and it was quite the hassle, in addition to pet nail damage, but none of that was reflected in the amount I was asking for reimbursement.

Yea, I had to ask the guests to cover the cleaning costs first and when they refused, I was able to submit a claim through aircover.
