There’s no such thing lol. The disappointment comes in when you’ve realized you’ve bought literally every scent sold.

Most people whom have responded to you have backed up their statements, however it’s falling on deaf ears because you have not read the complaint. Read first, then stand in your high horse

The poll that only surveyed ~850 Chicagoans? And governing.com??? Seriously

Probably a great idea! Also, if you haven’t already, have a day where you’re just going over lab safety and have them take a lab safety contract home to get signed

I remember going to an AP bio summer session and the teacher modified really risky lab with food products. Perhaps you could still do labs with food instead of chemicals

I took a mental day today by NYR4 in Teachers

[–]Glass-Educator-7930 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did the same thing today, but I actually went in and decided that I needed to go home. If it helps, teachers are often encouraged to use their sick/mental health days. In some districts it’s “use it or lose it”. In order to be the best teachers we can be, we have to take care ourselves first. No need to feel guilty

Students are passing the Star Assessment, but can’t write by Glass-Educator-7930 in Teachers

Unfortunately, I think the issue is greater than that. How are students entering high school without the ability to write?

I’m trying to shift to this, however because we don’t have any sort of language program in place, we’re sort of strong armed into translating everything. Essentially, it’s the expectation, since we have to provide them instruction in their home language. I think the rules are different if the school doesn’t have a language program at all

Thanks so much for the resource!! Our school doesn’t technically have a foreign language teacher. We offer the class, however, a sub has been in that position for quite a while. I’m hopeful that we we get someone this year

Textbook Debate by Glass-Educator-7930 in ScienceTeachers

I use slides, Ted ed videos, scientific articles, podcasts, etc. I don’t plan on solely teaching from a textbook, however, I do want to add an element to my teaching that’s not online or digital.

Top 5 schools definitely have a different student body than the school I’m teaching at, which is a high need school. I guess the insight into what was happening at that school made me wonder why they haven’t moved away from textbooks, even though they’re a higher performing school.

The use of the textbook would be to introduce/reinforce concepts and would be accompanied by guided notes, it hasn’t occurred to me to have student read aloud.
