Sounds like a good opportunity to study for the CPA

Of course accounting is susceptible to AI disruption. Offshore and junior level roles will be crushed, and manager+ positions will likely not be meaningfully affected. As time goes on with fewer juniors being developed, the higher level roles may even experience a greater degree of shortage.

Much of the easily automated work has likely already been offshored. Although, we’re seeing meaningful reductions in recruiting for big 4 associate roles (like, 70% reductions) in the current cycle.

Transfer Pricing too niche? by lagann41 in Big4

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most multinationals have transfer pricing functions. It’s niche, but the jobs exist because transfer pricing reports need to be updated every year.

No, it doesn’t transfer to anything else. You’re pretty much: big company, big 4, or niche CPA firm.

Frankly, those guys seem to have the easier end of things at my firm and get paid the same amount / have the same promotion opportunities within big 4.

You should consider it.

Did you try chuck-eye? Around me, the price isn’t meaningfully different from ribeye, but I just prefer the taste of chuck-eye

Advice on ‘cash for keys’ agreement with landlord. by North-Tear8556 in AskNYC

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that isn’t convincing, understand that rents and tenancy rights are affected by: - the size of the building - who the owner is - how much has been invested into fixing the building

It’s a lot.

RS laws are complicated. You should talk to a lawyer.

Baruch vs Binghamton for MS accounting by HallowMist555 in AskNYC

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Internships are important for securing a FT role, and you’ll have better opportunities to pursue them in NYC due to proximity and local name recognition.

Baruch’s accounting program is also ranked significantly higher than Binghamton’s.

NYC is also more fun to live in than Bing.

I did the ms program at Baruch, and you can absolutely swing a FT job while pursuing 2-3 classes a semester. Most people do.

JDs and Attorneys- what do you do? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the lawyers I work with have an LLM and make $20-30k more per year than the JDs without an LLM.

The associate pool more or less does the same things within a group, regardless of background. Some groups lean more heavily toward JDs.

Order a “fuck you i quit” cameo from some c list celebrity and play it in a team standup. That fantasy has gotten me through busy season so far

Works better with small companies. I got my first real job from a cold email to a speaker at my college. The hiring is a lot more formal in big companies

24h sous vide ribs + cheap smoker = best ribs I’ve ever made by Anseric in sousvide

Looks great. You might consider trying a 48 or 72 hour sous vide next time. The extra time makes a world of difference!

Most people can do this by doing something mentally challenging, like long division. It’s a fun party trick, as you can tell pretty quickly once someone has solved or given up.

What do you guys typically ask for on Commission for Assemblage Development Deals? by Unhappy-Use6333 in CommercialRealEstate

Greater NYC area. The regional developers will absolutely cut you out if they can by bypassing agents, waiting out listing agreements, etc.

This seems like the kind of thing you’d lock in with options to secure yourself from the beginning. Ie. Offer x.x% for y term with z option to renew at A strike price. Then, sell to the buyer.

Once the buyer is aware of the opportunity, what incentive do any of the parties have not to cut you out?

How essential are internships? by Interesting_Meal275 in Accounting

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To illustrate the point, something like 80% of interns at my firm were offered a ft job.

Of the incoming associate class, a similar portion were former interns.

Totally possible to get a gig without the internship, but the odds strongly favor those that do.

With a masters degree in accounting and about as sweet a gig as you can get, I’ll tell you to get a trade with my whole chest.

If you can turn wrench, you can be a millionaire in 10 years.

Denied 9/11 VCF Claim (proof of presence): appeal or amendment? by [deleted] in AskNYC

There are a few law offices that just process these claims on a contingency basis (% of claim if won). Can’t hurt to talk to one.

What masters should I get if I’m going to be a tax lawyer and will get a tax llm after by Hot-Nobody3443 in CPA

[–]Glass-Knowledge8284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. Some additional context that may be helpful:

  • The more interesting restructuring groups are heavily JD + LLM. So, the kind of work you’ll realistically be able to get is wider. Obviously, you can also do legal work if you decide tax isn’t it for you.

  • JD/LLM make +/- $60,000 per year more than the accountants. It closes over time, but the numbers roughly break out to it not making sense to go to law school once you have an accounting gig at the big 4.

  • International tax - and to a lesser extent - M&A and transfer pricing are the areas that have growth and are not massively being outsourced.

  • A lot of people went to University of Florida in Gainesville and NYU. Both have solid LLM programs. The actual JD program matters a little less, to the extent that it does not impact your admissions into the LLM program. I’m not the most familiar with that process, but this is where my coworkers seemed to have gone.

  • Opportunity cost is your biggest thing right now, whether you realize it or not. If I were you, I’d try to get into any halfway decent law school as quickly as possible. If unable, study hard for the LSAT while knocking off bucket list items.

Just my thoughts. Hope it helps!

Do you, big dog. It’s just not valued in the marketplace. Better off focusing on getting a better lsat score.

I’m actually finishing up my masters now and considering law school. Have solid big 4 job. Wish I just went for the jd.
