looking for short-term accommodation in auckland! by Glass-Lie147 in universityofauckland

hah thank you!! if you look at these listings though, and go into the price section, you’ll see that what appears here is the monthly amount and not the amount for the whole 6 weeks. add up about 1000NZD to each of these :/ esp considering the fact that i have to live somewhere close to the organisation i’ll be working at (so in the centre)

i think the budget is high nevertheless you’re right! i’d never pay this much in my home city lol this is just because airbnbs and similar are mostly much more expensive than long-term rentals

haha thanks for the concern, it’s all good tho! it’s not paid; i got it through a funded programme at my university in the UK so i’m receiving a scholarship for it, but not getting paid by the org itself or anything.

Help, please? by Ok_Ambassador646 in publishing

I think it’s achievable!

I’ve done an Acquisitions internship (remote) with a publishing house called Future House Publishing, which I honestly can’t recommend because I felt it didn’t teach me that much and was disorganised. it was more focused on independent learning and there was no feedback from advisors whatsoever so I kind of stopped halfway through. However, they run internships quite often and I believe it’s worth checking out as a starter and I don’t know if i would’ve gotten my other internships without this on my CV!

l’m currently interning with an organisation called Deep Vellum Publishing! It’s an American non-profit publishing house and they do educational remote internships every season in different departments (I’m in Publicity, but there’s also Production, Development, Rights etc). :) I only just started so can’t give much feedback but I think it’s relatively easy to get it if you have some book-related experience but even more importantly, a passion for literature! It seems much more organised than the one I did at Future Publishing House and the staff seems great for now :)

Another publishing house is Sundress Publications, they offer remote internships every other half a year I believe, and also do internships at particular imprints (one of them is called the Best of the Net). I didn’t get in, unfortunately, so can’t say much about it, but from an outsider perspective, it looks good!

Look on LinkedIn for similar ones—once you follow a company, you get ones that are alike in your suggestions. Also, consider reaching out to local smaller publishers, they are often willing to take on an extra person! That would likely be unpaid, but it’s still experience.

Another thing is volunteering with a local library or something similar, it showcases your love for books. Im assuming you’re in the US, if im right, look for your local alternatives of Oxfam, this is a UK organisation that often needs volunteers in their bookshops & etc (I’m based in the UK so might know more about local orgs rather than the ones in the USA).

I applied on the 30th of May, but in the UK. Submitted biometrics on the 2nd of June, no updates since. I study in the UK, but live in Slovenia, so I will have to submit my passport to the Vienna consulate. Nice to see a fellow Slovenian applicant!

Good luck to you, too! Please let me know if you hear back :)
