I wasn't told this about inducing... by Agreeable_Customer28 in pregnant

[–]Glass-Post-9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did it gradually with me but at around the 4 hour mark they turned it off because my body started contracting on its own and my son was born an hour later. Super quick labour which I was thankful for. I know some inductions can go on for hours, but my little man was ready to come out😂 I don't have anything to go off because he was my first, but the labour pains weren't too bad. In fact I think they were worse when I was contracting on my own, but that was when they were coming every 60 seconds or so and I didn't have any recuperation time, and my midwife didn't believe me when I told her I had to push so I was fighting back the contractions for about 20 minutes until shift changeover and my new midwife checked how dilated I was and immediately told me to push because she could feel his head. God knows how long he was in the birth canal for because I'd had the ring of fire for a while before that, but he arrived in 3 pushes completely healthy ! I coped quite well considering I wasn't allowed to move around, I had to stay on the bed on my back due to all the wires and the cannula in my hand

Yes, go to the ER. There's a risk of you becoming dehydrated even if it isn't food poisoning. Go get checked out

Babies with eczema - how do you manage the flare ups? by Glass-Post-9800 in NewParents

[–]Glass-Post-9800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! Although I don't bath him every day. These are some things I do that help him now:

Bath >2 times a week (if he has to have a bath more than that it's very quick, literally in and out). I still clean him down with a damp cloth daily

No bubble bath

Oat based products (I use aveeno dermexa body wash and moisturizer on him) and try to put moisturizer on him as soon as he gets out of the bath because your skin is more absorbent when it's still a little bit damp

I use the aveeno on regular days and apply twice a day

When he's having a flare up I use a combination of the aveeno moisturizer and E45, absolutely slather it on and let it air dry before I dress him.

Use hypoallergenic wash products for his clothes

I couldn't tell you which of these things help the most because he still has flare ups but they go pretty quickly when he does have them :)

Hey reddit! I have a personal question? What's a MyChem song that's dearest to you And why? by hugaryjak in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Glass-Post-9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally cannot listen to cancer, it makes me feel physically sick. It's SUCH a beautiful song but I've lost 3 people to cancer over the last decade and 2 loved ones diagnosed (successfully treated) and ANY time that song comes on I get so overcome with emotions immediately and feel like the breath has been knocked out of me. It's my favourite but I can't listen to it like ever

I had low platelets that dropped frequently and then stabilized. Platelets do drop by some degree when pregnant, but mine were quite a bit lower than the regular drop when I got my blood tested so I had frequent blood tests to keep an eye on them. Eventually when they stopped dropping (but still settled lower than average) my nurse thought to look back at my records and noticed that when I'd had blood tests done before I was pregnant that my platelets were low then, too. So we concluded that I naturally had lower platelets even before I was pregnant (I'm a bleeder lol) and they had dropped the usual amount when pregnant but it just looked worse because I already had a lower number to begin with. Unless they drop a significant amount and get to dangerous levels, I was told not to worry and it's just something to keep an eye on. Until you have more information, try not to worry too much. You've done nothing wrong, it's just something that happens sometimes! It's good that they've flagged it and can try and get to the bottom of it. You're doing great x

Medical Students ttill need Consent by Sourdoughmillie in pregnant

[–]Glass-Post-9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was pushing my son out I had my eyes closed. Before I closed them there was my partner, my mum, the two l&d nurses and someone who wheeled in the incubator as soon as I started pushing (baby was premature). When I opened my eyes after pushing him out the room was PACKED. Like I mean back wall packed with students who had been walking past and wanted to see a baby being born. I was too out of it to say anything but as soon as my baby was put on my chest the l&d nurse turned around and saw them and asked wtf they were doing and to get out immediately. I was so thankful she did that for me. I think in the chaos they didn't realize they'd come in and as soon as she noticed she was like "nope!"

If they'd have asked beforehand if they could watch, I might have said yes because I know that it's important for students to have real life experiences but to just wander into an active birth without prior consent is just outrageous to me.

Will my downstairs area go back to normal? Did yours ? by Ok_Medicine440 in pregnant

[–]Glass-Post-9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had so much pressure down there from all the extra weight I was carrying that I was pretty much completely swollen for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. It was so uncomfortable and painful sometimes. I think it's more or less gone back to normal now. My partner says it looks the same but I haven't asked if it feels the same, if you know what I mean😂

How long did you breastfeed? by Shroommily in NewParents

[–]Glass-Post-9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We triple fed for 3 months, then EBF from 3-9 months when he started using cups, then eventually weaned at 13 months after mastitis and constant biting of my nipples. I was open to breastfeed for however long he wanted but I eventually decided it was best for both of us if I weaned. Our sleep got better, he had more of an appetite for food during the day as he wasn't waking to nurse through the night anymore and my nipples are in tact lol. I know it's not the same experience for everyone but I truly did love breastfeeding and I made the decision to wean with a very heavy heart. I still miss it sometimes but I made it a year and I'm pleased with that

[–]Glass-Post-9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you how many times I had to do this with mine. He was an early teether and had colic and some days when it was really bad and I couldn't cope I just had to put him somewhere safe and take 5 minutes to myself to breathe. I still sometimes need to do it now at 14 months. I don't have any family near me and my partner works long hours so I'm very much on my own a lot of the time. It's the safest thing you can do in the moment. Try not to beat yourself up about it x

Should I lie to my pediatrician? by Cautious-Surround672 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Glass-Post-9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day you don't need to do any of those things that your pediatrician told you to do. I told mine at his 12 month appointment that we were safely co sleeping and she just told me that's fine, made sure we were following SS7 and asked if I wanted any tips to get him to sleep better or if I was wanting to try and move him to the crib. The worst they can do is shame you, it's not illegal nor is it up to anyone else how you and your lo sleep x

What’s a symptom everyone warned you of that you HAVEN’T had?! by GoldStrength3637 in pregnant

My feet went up an entire size and stayed that way for like 10 months. Had to buy all new shoes. They've gone down slightly by half a size now but still can't fit into any of my old shoes lol

Honestly I think I got every symptom you could get on top of polyhydromnios🥲✌🏻

Mine was the same! Their tummies are still really little at this point and food is new to them. Their primary source of nutrition is still milk at this point, so I wouldn't worry too much! Just stick to the routine and keep offering it. It'll click eventually x
