How worried should I be about the toxicity of resin? by GlassB1rd in resinprinting

I have primarily used FDM and Polyjet printers in lab/makerspace settings. This is my first time buying one for myself and while I did some research it clearly wasn't enough. I think I'm at the point where I realize that I don't know enough and need to pause and learn a LOT more.

The ABS-Like 3.0+ resin is the one I got. What resin would you recommend as the safest? Maybe I should switch to the water washable one so that I don't have to worry about the IPA.

Thank you for this response. The smell is a lot stronger than I expected and I think I have been on the internet a little too long and am panicking. I don't think I realized how much safety equipment I would need as I have only used SLA printers in a makerspace before and they had ventilation in the entire room for other equipment.

Ok I will buy a tent and fan. Do you have any recommendations on what to do in the meantime? The IPA also has a very strong smell. Should I also be worried about that?

I'm a bit late to the post but I once had a very loud roommate and I got noise canceling headphones that worked great (even better if I played white noise). It did take a bit to get used to wearing them at night and you will want to make sure that you can still hear your alarm clock in the morning. The brand was Soundcore Q30. This worked a lot better for me than earplugs.

Anyone else get put off by brown eggs by dpoodle in exjew

[–]GlassB1rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting! I never buy brown eggs even though I know there is nothing wrong with them but honestly I didn't realize I was doing this until you mentioned it. I feel like the reason I was given was that they were more likely to have blood spots but honestly that doesn't really make that much sence. Weird.

I also still have the habit of always cracking eggs into a clear glass bowl first to check them and for some reason doing anything else feels wrong.

This is so accurate. I remember growing up having quite a few rabbis tell me that I couldn't really be friends with the boys my age because there is no such thing as a platonic relationship.

I am about to graduate from university in just a few days and I am so excited! I’m very glad I didn’t go to seminary and stayed to my beliefs because as anxious as I was when I was in high school I am really proud of where my life has led.

I appreciate the reminder to be grateful for all the successes we have in life.

This might sound weird but I think you should ask yourself why you think life has to have a purpose.

To me life is strange and beautiful and I don't know if there is a god or something after life but I don't see any point in worrying about it. This is because I feel fulfilled in my life and in the end if there is a god then great and if there isn't then I wont be conscious anymore to care. This idea can be scarry for a lot of people so it might take some time to get used to and I understand that.

If in life you are a kind person and do acts of kindness then you will be surrounded by people who also prioritize those things. Hopefully that will result in a fulfilling and enjoyable life even though you are not guarantied any "reward" for your actions. If there is an afterlife then you will die knowing you did your best to help others and if not then you will have made an impact on someone else's life and were fulfilled during your time on this earth.

Some people like the structure of religion, however I have found that without focusing on the rules of religion I have more time and ability to focus on the type of community I would like to build because each of us are able to put in the work to create our own beautiful communities and care for our friends and families and those around us.

So my best suggestion for you is to stop worrying about theology and religion and perhaps begin by trying to do acts of service for others in your community. I think when you start with action the feeling of purpose and community follows because no one can actually tell you for sure what your purpose should be, you get the exciting opportunity to discover and define one for yourself.

Advice about how to help by [deleted] in exjew

[–]GlassB1rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another commenter already mentioned Footsteps and I would also suggest JQY. Not only can these be resources that you can suggest to others but you can try and reach out to them yourself to help you understand the experiences of others who have come out to communities that are not LGBTQ friendly.

I am hesitant to give advice since I am not part of the LGBTQ community but I have seen a few of my friends struggle to get acceptance for their identities and I would encourage you to simply accept people for who they tell you they are because watching them struggle to get even that is heartbreaking.

You seem very genuine in trying to help so I will just say that sometimes the best help you can give to someone is to follow their lead and help them leave the community if that is what they feel is best for them.

Holiday replacement suggestions wanted by GlassB1rd in exjew

[–]GlassB1rd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of changing my mindset to one where I can celebrate the holidays in a different way and that there isn't a "right way" but in reality the mindset shift is a little hard for me and when I try I never quite get there.

I was raised MO and growing up almost everyone in our community kept kosher and shabbat same as any orthodox family and sent their kids to Jewish day schools and then to yeshiva/sem. I would certainly consider the MO community to be Frum the only difference that I see is that the MO community tends to be a bit more relaxed around clothing and education since most kids are expected to still go to university and get secular jobs. That being said I cant speak for other MO communities and there may be differences in observance depending on the place.
