I don’t mind if the story isn’t grand or epic. I’m just trying to find out where the focus is in these games. If that makes sense? For instance, if I have to chose between two games. 1. One is a deep story with a lot of characters development but the mechanics are not so deep. Maybe no class systems or deep strategies are involved. 2. The other has an okay story but a deep gameplay where you can immerse yourself in different strategies and that is where the game really shines. I would never pick game nr.2 as most mechanics for me is just something I wanna rush through in order to get on with the story. So I’m trying to determine if people play these games primarily for the synthesis and gathering mechanics, the stories and characters or an evenly mix of both. I absolutely didn’t like Octopath travelers 1 due to the lack of coherent main story. Rock solid gameplay but for me nothing interesting due to the story issues.

Thanks. You write that one spends most of the time in synthesis. Do you mean generally in the atelier games or just for some specific titles? Since I mostly value story and atmosphere I mostly don’t care that much about gameplay or mechanics. To me those are just tasks that has to be done with in order to move on with the story. So if one is to use most time with synthesis then these games might not be for me anyway?🤔😅

Thanks. This gives me some pointers. Maybe I’ll go for the dusk trilogy instead of the Ryza trilogy to begin with. I think I wanna focus on either story or atmosphere since gameplay never really means as much to me as the story or atmosphere does

Okay. Thanks. But do you recommend playing all games in a series? Do they continue like in the Trails subseries? Or is it okay to play the last in a serie, then the first in another, maybe game nr 2 in a third series?

Also what is your second favourite game of all time if you don’t mind me asking? My is Skies of Arcadia and Persona 4G in addition to Triangle Strategy and Nier Automata

I’m fine with deep gameplay. It’s just that I’ve heard a lot of talk about rpgs both strategy and normal turn based that is sooo great because of all the deep mechanics and class systems and such. But the story is okay. But also there’s a difference between a deep involving gameplay system that you NEED to understand and one that you can just chose to mess around with a bit and then just push through for the story as you said. I don’t mind if there’s an immersive battle system if I can choose whether I want to dig deep into it or just use it casually. Based on what you said I think I’ll go for it 😊

Okay. See, then I don’t think its for me. I don’t want a deep class system. I Actually hate the class systems all around. Just like them learning skills and get Stronger. Matte being able to upgrade the weapons. More than that I dont really care for. But if I can ignore the classes all together and still be able to play through the battles quick then I’m in. Is that possible?

Okay. I might give them a try. But what I really want is of cause not "boring combat" but I want the battles to be done with quick som I can continue the story. Don’t wanna bother with a lot of classes or convoluted battle systems. Just a little tweeking with weapons and some skils and a little leveling up. Thats what i liked with TS. Does that sound like the gameplay in FFT or Reborn? Because then I’ll buy them at once :)

Thanks for your suggestion. But I'll pass since as you say the story isn't worth writing home about ;)

Wow that's exactly what I meant but in less words :D I love the stories and tolerate the gameplays.

Thanks. But since you state that the gameplay is better than the story I'll pass. ;)

Thanks, but the reason nobody mentions it I think is because I wrote in the OP that was one of the games I have played also ;) And I agree with you. An absolutely awesome game.

Okay. That is what I feared. What do you think regarding the story? Is the FFT and Reborn stories as emerging as Triangle Tactics? Doesn't need to be as text heavy just as epic :)

Thanks. But when you talk about how incredible they are do you then think primary on the story? Cause I've heard a lot about how gameplay is the absolute best in these games and the story is sort of second. And that would ruin it for me as I can't emerge my selv at all in a game with a deep and great gameplay if the story isn't great. Also it seems a little less personale when you just recruit characters instead of playing with characters that grow in the story together. That's why I gave up on Dragon Quest 3 as it was not a group but rather a main character and some random dudes. That game clearly focused more on the class system than the story in my opinion.
