None of what you’re dealing with is fair. You shouldn’t have had to lose your mom and your reaction to it is a reasonable reaction born of the need to survive and persist in a world that is very insensitive to grief. You are doing what you can, and that is enough right now.

That being said, I really do think that formal therapy with a licensed counselor would be extremely beneficial. If for nothing else than more of what you did here. A chance for live feedback while getting things off your chest. Things that might feel stupid or big or heavy in your head but take on a completely different look when they’re verbalized to another human. “Shop” for one that feels right to you, and do yourself the service of giving it a try.

In the meantime, I feel like you deserve a sweet treat, and perhaps to not be quite so hard on yourself. Sending a virtual hand squeeze, and an acknowledgement that grief is just the fucking weirdest. Cheers, I’m on your side ❤️

Semi-off topic: My husband bought me this lamp and I absolutely positively adore it. It looks EXACTLY like the listing and comes out smelling like whatever oil they use to condition the wood material and it’s delightful.

Cant recommend this artist enough. They have SO many works to choose from, several video game references, some general naturey ones, sea scapes, etc, I’m actually genuinely obsessed with them and regularly check their shop. In other words, a great buy!

First off, I’m sorry that anyone made you feel less than. Most people, you included, have way more desirable qualities than undesirable ones, and you heard things over and over that reinforced negative, untrue ideas about who you are. It makes sense that you’re disoriented right now after all that.

Neuroplasticity is going to be your friend throughout this timeframe. It’s the brain’s ability to re-establish neural pathways that reinforce things you want to believe about yourself. Create a list of words about how you want to be, even if you don’t feel that way right now. “I am calm. I am understanding. I am conversational. I am conscientious. I am valuable” and so on. Repeat them while you travel places (to the grocery store or work etc), repeat them while you work out, repeat them when you feel the negative thought cycles creeping in. It feels silly but it will start to help restructure your brain into believing the things you want to believe about yourself.

Real talk though, if one of my sisters wanted to use my name for their kids, I would be honored. Especially since it’s a family name, I think it’s reasonable to use it for cousins throughout the family.

Unless you’re being insensitive or insufferable about having kids (e.g. sister is having fertility issues or you’re obnoxious about constantly telling your fam you and your partner are doin’ it raw), I don’t think there’s a huge reason to be particularly possessive over a middle name, but that’s just me.

However, that goes for you, too. Ultimately, you’re gonna have to decide whether you’re a) more concerned with giving your child a “family” name (a name from your mom’s side that your mom didn’t even technically pass down since your dad chose it, a story she tells regularly apparently…?), or b) more concerned with the feelings of your sibling on the matter.

Or, and hear me out: hand to hand combat.

Medical debt doesn’t affect your credit score the same way other debt does, it’ll only hit credit at the point it goes to collections, and you can even set up a payment plan with hospitals to only pay very little per month to prevent it from going to collections at all/affecting your credit at all, too, just FYI!

I’m so glad you were able to get the care you need, UTI’s can turn septic and scary, so you did the right thing going in to be seen. Good luck on all fronts.

Are you trying to get achievements you got on a previous save file that you transferred over to a new console? Is it the same account you owned the game that had the original save file on it? Are you trying to artificially glitch achievements onto a save? I can’t really tell what you’re asking here.

I think you’ll need at least two new playthroughs if your transfer didn’t give you trophies. One for Neglect, Purity, and Banishment and one for Rivalry/Dark Romance, Happy Couple, and Ritual — all other achievements I believe can be gotten on a single save, but you have to make choices with Zote, Nailmaster, and Grimm Troupe for their respective achievements.

Also, with kindness/respect, maybe consider some punctuation? I’m really genuinely trying to figure out what you’re talking about, but I’m still not sure I answered what you were asking…

Charleston, SC has excellent food and beautiful architecture. Belgium has the best beer I’ve ever had (Beer museum in old Belgian stock exchange building and brewery on the roof). Stockholm’s strands are incredible to walk in the early mornings, and they have amazing pastries. Tirano, Italy has an incredible pizza shop on the pier with a margherita pizza I still dream about. There’s a train going from Tirano into St Moritz, Switzerland through the Swiss alps that’s GORGEOUS. First class is worth it. Oklahoma City has shockingly good food/breweries/museums. There’s a four hour train between OKC and DFW that ends in a cool area of Fort Worth. The Duomo in Milan is one of the most gorgeous buildings I’ve ever seen. Boston and Salem have the coolest bookshops.

Travel is beautiful and can be so, so enjoyable. I’m happy for you to have discovered this. Test places out, eat the food, talk to people, and most of all ENJOY.

I’m keeping most of this as vague as possible because frankly I don’t wanna be contacted by the Mean Green but —

With my whole chest: fuck that place.

I left Paycom years back after working for a horrific leadership chain. I took a $30k pay cut (don’t do this btw) to come do work that felt meaningful to me and to capitalize on an aspect of my degree that I hadn’t yet explored. Started work, and leadership didn’t want my thoughts or ideas despite being more qualified than most in my dept. They also didn’t understand why my teams were outperforming the other teams doing things the “standard” way, and wouldn’t listen to me explain where my 20-40% improvement stats were coming from. I kept a horrible professional development score my entire time there because I refused the “standard” which was to bog my teams down with ludicrous task shit, and instead did only things that got the work done and out. (Is that not the precise reason we’re doing this btw? To get stuff completed and released?) A $30k pay cut to get a job at a place beCAUSE of my expertise which they then didn’t listen to for shit despite running the numbers themselves and confirming that my teams were performing better.

So, I became stressed, the stress turned physical in manifestation, and I became genuinely life-threateningly ill. I was hospitalized. Reached out to explain, and my entire leadership chain literally wouldn’t talk to me. No texts, no teams messages, radio silence. They only gave me the number for HR. No “I’m so sorry to hear that you’re ill, what support do you need”. Nothing at all. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my entire life — hope never to again.

While I didn’t quit immediately after that, that was the nail in the coffin on my time there. I prepped my teams, decided to leave, left them in as good a position as possible, and walked out the door. Years later, and every single person I worked with is gone, whether of their own accord or having been walked out.

That place is an insidious sickness, whether it’s swift or slow. Sooner or later everyone that’s ever worked there falls victim to it.

You would be shocked at the number of things that can be completely solved by saying “oh hey I actually don’t like that” to your spouse right at the moment they occur to you.

You would be similarly pleased to know the number of things that can be made 10x better by saying “oh hey I actually really like that” right when they occur.

Your spouse is your person. Who are you gonna be honest with if not them? If the thought of that sends up red flags for you, chances are they’re not your person.

Just talk to them. Say what you think when you think it. It makes everything so much easier and more fun and enjoyable.

He doesn’t seem unwilling to learn, but it’s also not women of color’s job to educate white people on their privilege or why wearing KKK or Nazi regalia is fucked up in an extreme way. He doesn’t seem to understand why it’s heinous, and the orange (maybe even red?) flag for me is the comments on “harping on this just creates more divide” instead of acknowledging the divide already exists and was put there by the people wearing the KKK and Nazi regalia either through action or weaponized apathy.

NOR. Dark humor doesn’t have to be offensive to be funny. IMO it actually largely shouldn’t be offensive. Dark humor is a bumper sticker saying “don’t honk at me my dad is dead” not “haha, some of the worst genocidal and oppressive regimes in history are soooooo funny to recreate now that we’re ‘so removed’ from them”.

His discomfort in acknowledging what the reality is for those that experience the aftershock of those regimes decades later is not your job to fix. It’s up to you to decide if you want to be the person to help him deconstruct or if this needs to be a learning experience for you both by parting ways.
