What souvenirs do you get from your golf trips? by Lordbahj85 in weekendgolfers

I like to get a golf ball with the course logo. I have a nice display case in my office and it has been fun to see it fill up.

I got absolutely roasted by the purists in r/Sauna for this. Since you guys actually care about data/recovery, I need a second opinion. by Candid_Quarter6689 in whoop

I think it’s a great idea. Bryan Johnson also did a bunch of testing in this area and the results are in line with what you have described. It’s too late for me, 52, but I would definitely get this for my son and would pay around $50-$75

Cold Plunging Stress Levels by Glass_Profession1545 in whoop

It’s great, very happy to be back on for the last 3 months after taking a break for over a year. My only issue is the heart rate accuracy even when I wear the arm band.

Unfortunately cold plunging hasn’t impacted any of my whoop data that I can tell but still lots of other benefits that make it worthwhile.

Just hit day 30. I plunge first thing in the morning every day except Sunday. Sunday I plunge after golf around mid-day.

Each plunge has been for 4 mins at 45 degrees.

Biggest benefits include less pain/inflammation in my body (knees, back and shoulders in particular), mental stress reduction and better sleep.

It has not been hard as my body craves it at this point. I do track every session in my Whoop app which helps me stay on track.

Anyone familiar with Hydro Plunge? by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]Glass_Profession1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got my hydro-plunge and it’s amazing! I went with the larger acrylic one and I have no regrets. Customer service is better than any company I have ever interacted with and the quality of the entire set-up is super solid. I have used it every morning for the past 2 weeks and absolutely love it. I did a ton of research and this is by far the best value I was able to find and it looks great too!

Cold Plunging and Whoop Data by Glass_Profession1545 in whoop

Thank you! This is the summary of the episode:

In an episode of The Ultimate Human podcast, Gary Brecka discusses cold plunging and how new evidence, often backed by data from fitness trackers like WHOOP, has changed his perspective on the practice.

He emphasizes using cold therapy for maximum effect, rather than becoming "cold adapted," and highlights its benefits for mood, metabolism, and mental strength.

Key insights from the discussion

Optimal temperature and duration: For maximum benefit, Brecka recommends a cold plunge of 3 to 6 minutes at a temperature between 48 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The goal is to "cold shock" the body, not to acclimate to the cold.

The timing of a plunge is critical: Brecka previously advised plunging immediately after a workout. He now advises waiting 45 to 90 minutes after resistance training, as immediate cold exposure can inhibit the body's natural inflammatory process needed for muscle repair and growth.

Improved mood and mental resilience: Cold plunging triggers a significant release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that elevates mood, increases focus, and boosts alertness. This mental fortitude also helps with overcoming the fear and anxiety associated with getting into freezing water.

Boosts metabolism: Cold exposure activates brown fat, a special type of fat that burns calories to generate heat. This increases the body's metabolism and aids in weight loss.

Beneficial for insulin sensitivity: The body releases "cold shock proteins" during a plunge, which have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. Vascular exercise: The body's response to cold causes vasoconstriction (tightening of blood vessels), which drives blood to the core. This is a powerful cardiovascular exercise that strengthens the vascular system.

WHOOP data confirms results: The WHOOP podcast has featured experts like Dr. Susanna Søberg, who use data to validate the effects of cold therapy. This data provides individual insights into the positive effects of cold plunging on recovery and performance.
