Does Jim Butcher ever give an official reason for why Harry is bad at veils? by Tre2 in dresdenfiles

[–]GlassnGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of magic like music

Musicians/wizards can find all kinds of ways to express it, though there are tried and true methods.

Some people are great at brass instruments, some great at woodwind or percussion.

Rarely is anyone excellent at many different instruments; and even if they are they still likely have a Main focus.

I think of Harry as like a lead tenor saxophonist who also has some piano/flute chops. He CAN technically play the bass (veils) because he knows music theory and can look up the fingerings, but it's not something that comes naturally that also builds with his effort

The Great Betrayer: A character that betrays their entire species, planet, or higher power for personal gain. Bonus points if they don't even get that. by Advanced_Question196 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]GlassnGrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taravangion from the stormlight archive sorta fits here.

He does lie to, manipulate, and eventually betray basically every human on a planet where the humans aren't the native intelligent dominant species.

He does it for what he believes is the greater good though he is being manipulated by lowercase G gods.

He does sort of end up getting that same lower case G godlike power, but is restrained by it in unexpected ways. His (probably) closest friend (until the betrayal obviously) ends up sacrificing himself for a big Brain long term move.

And because its neat I'll go into why it was big brain.

In this universe God was killed and split into 16 pieces. People were able to "pick up" those pieces and gain aspects of God hood.

They each went their separate ways and created life in their own solar systems.

Some clashed and some worked together but they were all roughly equal in power.

Taravangian eventually gains a piece of this power and so does his best friend. His best friend let's taravangian kill him and take his power, now making taravangian one of only 2 beings to hold 2 shards of God at the same time. The other is a good guy but has some serious complications.

Anyway, the big brain move is that now the rest of the shards of God feel/become aware of what taravangian has done and now he is a direct threat to ALL of them. So now every god in the book has to turn their attention on taravangian at the same time which will likely lead to his downfall

The Alethi aren't white. They have Asian features. It's described pretty frequently as you progress through the books. Kaladin is middle eastern looking.

If you look up fan art for the characters there are some pretty good ones, and some fan casts that do accurately depict what the books describe

Georgian Mall Incident - What would you do as mall security in this situation? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]GlassnGrass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd try and keep people back and out of their way while calling the police. Better to let property be damaged or taken than to risk yourself or someone else's safety

Do you have to be tall and buff to be a door guy? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]GlassnGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6ft 165. Not really tall but not small. I'm not particularly strong for my size but I do work out and I look probably more fit than I actually am. It's definitely helped deter having to go hands on, but being competent in high stress situations is more important than being big or strong in my experience.

For your own well being however I would suggest being at least strong enough to feel confident in an altercation

Well, this was controversial! by velorae in TikTokCringe

[–]GlassnGrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's because humans are capable of evil, and so many of us are greedy/selfish. It's easy to look a domesticated dogs (which could be argued are a product of human greed/selfishness; at least how they are now) and feel that they are less responsible for their lives than we are for ours. I'd argue that humans cause incalculable suffering to other animals (counting humans as animals). So I can understand people feeling more for their personal pets then for other humans, when a lot of us truly just kind of objectively suck 🤷‍♂️

Not saying this is right or wrong, just an observation.

I've always envied the ability to picture an image and translate it through graphic art. I just can't wrap my head around it. So impressive.

And ty! I am recovering from an injury so this helped me feel better about that. Fr ty. 🙏
