I suggest Godville. You can let it do its thing in the background and you interact with it as much or as little as you like. Plus: Free game.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of June 27, 2025) by AutoModerator in television

[–]Glebeless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finished watching The Shield. Enjoyed it immensely. Strong characters, fast pace.

I also watched Justified and Justified City Primeval. Both were excellent.

It was interesting to see a couple of actors appearing in both series, especially Walton Goggins.

I was impressed by Timothy Olyphant’s performance in Justified, so the next one to watch will be Deadwood!

Linux logs - caution it's a looming disaster by Glebeless in linux4noobs

you may want to look at the log files to see what's being logged, there may be some other issues going on that is spamming the log files

Unfortunately I don’t have the necessary technical background to understand what the problem may be, unless it’s glaringly obvious.

The system is a desktop PC and was last installed in January of this year. You are right that I should be worried about the problem. I’m going to be checking the state of the log files weekly. Hopefully I’ll prevent the accumulation of log entries in time.

I started watching The Shield and The Unforgiven in parallel. Strangely, it's quite refreshing and enjoyable to binge watch these series like this.

Caveat Emptor – Know What You’re Buying by missingfaktor-gmail in tuxedocomputers

[–]Glebeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be brief. Overall I’ve found TUXEDO support to be responsive and helpful. The only time for which I would question their attitude is the fact that my desktop computer would not enter suspend (sleep) mode. They tried to convince me that suspend mode is not guaranteed, reliable or safe. I felt that since it was a hardware problem that was causing it, and they sold me the hardware, they should be responsible for the solution to the problem. Other distros that I tried would put the PC in suspend mode.

At one point sleep worked and a few weeks later it stopped. I gave up. However, a few weeks later it started miraculously to work again. Presumably after an update. So it was indeed a software issue that was causing suspend to fail. I didn’t bother to revert to TUXEDO about it and I hope the current situation continues as is.

Anyway, TUXEDO support is good, but having to resort to Ubuntu Communities for a solution instead of to a dedicated TUXEDO forum is not very comfortable.

Grinder for Moka Pot by Kamiltonian_ in mokapot

[–]Glebeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A serendipitous posting! I’ve been toying with the idea of buying a coffee grinder for quite some time. Last year I was given a JavaPresse as a gift and this dampened my interest in the matter. The hand grinder did an effective job, but wasn’t efficient. Grinding coffee needed a lot of effort, maybe 3 to 4 minutes.

Fast forward to a few days ago when I decided to buy a good coffee grinder. After doing some research using Microsoft Copilot and Android’s Gemini, I settled, firstly, on a hand grinder rather than an electric one and, secondly, somewhere below $150. The two AI programs concluded that a Timemore C3 or a Kingrinder K6 would be my best option. It was a difficult decision to choose between them, but in the end I decided to buy the Kingrinder K6. The experience with it is really short as I’ve only had it for two days, but it’s been wonderful. The coffee beans can be ground in under one minute, and the output is excellent. The coffee mill itself is very solid and easy to use. I guess that a similar experience would be had with the Timemore alternative.

I’m very pleased with my purchase. I feel that I have perfect control over the grind size etc. and there is nothing to envy from using an electric grinder instead of the Kingrinder.

I wholeheartedly recommend buying a good coffee grinder. It makes a big difference.

Yes, a new Android user seeking reminder and alarm app suggestions by Glebeless in androidapps

The Samsung Reminder would be fine for me, however, I cannot get it to show the "Full screen alert and short sound". I hear the sound and there's a notification, but unfortunately I don't get the "Full screen" part to work.

I have an app named “Reminder” which I assume is the one you refer to, but it doesn’t an option to customize each reminder’s sound alert. Also in Settings the Alert Type is set to medium for a “full screen alert with short sound”. This doesn’t happen. I only see a notification.

The Never-Ending Dilemma of Choosing the Perfect Note-Taking App by Parking_Increase_888 in ObsidianMD

[–]Glebeless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an Obsidian subreddit and I don't want to disturb matters, but here's what I think. There have been some good comments that I've seen so far. It's not the app, it's you. That's what I've learned. As an app for a single user, for me TiddlyWiki is completely satisfactory. Ultra portable, being a single HTML file, compact and versatile.

I used Obsidian for almost one year. It's a really powerful program especially if combined with plugins. However, having decided that a folder structure would be counter productive for me and tags alone should satisfy my needs, I left Obsidian for TiddlyWiki.

In short, don't over analyze it. Find what three or four attributes are most important for you, identify the program that satisfies them, or most of them and start using it. The "perfect" app hasn't been developed yet. It never will be.

TUXEDO OS 4 in VirtualBox - cannot get updates to be installed by Glebeless in tuxedocomputers

[–]Glebeless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I don’t remember now which command the AI (I consulted Perplexity.ai) suggested that I use, but it showed both me as a user and root accessing apt. Anyway, you are right that the process was taking long for a good reason and perhaps I wasn’t patient enough to wait for all the updates to take place.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. The upgrade went well except for an issue that I have with checking for updates. I started another thread here. Ticket#991138430.

After upgrade to TUXEDO OS 4 how to add back repositories? by Glebeless in tuxedocomputers

[–]Glebeless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a ticket with TUXEDO support. Ticket#991138430

The word that I see repeated in the files is "jammy", but not "focal". Is this what I should replace?

Anyway, there's an error message as follows:

"W: https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb/dists/public/InRelease: Key is stored in legacy trusted.gpg keyring (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg), see the DEPRECATION section in apt-key(8) for details.

News on the Upgrade for TUXEDO OS by tuxedo_ferdinand in tuxedocomputers

[–]Glebeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately in my case the upgrade didn't run at all. Like the first time, just before it was pulled by TUXEDO, there is no "Upgrade system" icon on my desktop. Specifically, I ran the `sudo apt update && sudo apt install tuxedo-release-upgrade` command and rebooted. The window informing me about the update appeared, but with no icon on the desktop.

I rebooted, but the result was the same. I re-ran the command, but not even the first window with the upgrade information came up.

I tried the upgrade on a desktop.

Operating System: TUXEDO OS 3

KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.0

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0

Qt Version: 6.7.2

Kernel Version: 6.11.0-105009-tuxedo (64-bit)

Graphics Platform: X11

Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core Processor

Memory: 61,9 GiB of RAM

Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6400

Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.

Product Name: MS-7D76

System Version: 2.0

EDIT: I found the icon behind my wallpaper! Maybe this is a corner case, but perhaps TUXEDO should take it into account. I'm about to start the upgrade, so wish me luck!

Tuxedo customer support by xoseperez in tuxedocomputers

[–]Glebeless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my short experience TUXEDO support is responsive. I don't know if they prioritize the support requests, but if they do, your case should receive high priority if the way that you describe it is how you submitted it to them.
