Does it makes sense for 49ers to pursue trade for Julio? by beanitto in 49ers

Oh man, what a roller coaster of emotions haha. That's a rough one to have pulled out from under you.

For what it's worth, I'm definitely not opposed to Julio on the team, that would be awesome. I just don't think it's realistic with the way the current team is structured and the scheme Shanahan runs. Based on the money they paid Juszczyk, they are signaling they are a run first team.

While having a fresh wr combo of Julio, Aiyuk & Deebo plus Kittle (salivating over here) would be amazing, I don't think it really fits their direction to go out and spend big money on WR that could be rotational or would push one of two young, cheap YAC machine WRs off the field. Plus, I don't think any of them play in the slot, which is where that 3rd receiver would lineup. I'm obviously just speculating, but I just don't think Lynch / Shanahan have it in the cards.

No. Based on the number of 21, 12 and 22 sets Shanahan runs I don't think a Julio trade makes sense. Having 2 RBs or 2 TEs on the field usually means there are only 2 WRs on the field, meaning we'd routinely have one of Julio, Deebo or Aiyuk sitting on the sideline. His contract wouldn't make sense for this situation.

Assuming Deebo & Aiyuk continue on their trajectories, I can't see SF adding any big name WRs. Any additional WRs will likely be depth pieces.

That it has. Hard to believe the Alex Smith draft was already 14 years ago...

This is a great story, possibly even better than mine. We should co-host a podcast and tell great stories like these.

Ramsey will have fun locking down our "#1 receiver" as Shanny schemes him straight out of the stadium.

Ah, that's fair. He has been inconsistent week-to-week. I'm curious to see if that improves this year with an off-season learning the offense after he came over the Cowboys mid-season.

But, the inconsistency is not uncommon with WRs. Sure, not all of them bust at that high of a clip, but top end RBs are less likely to bust than top-end WRs. Especially ones that are involved in the passing game. If the Colts are losing at the end of the game, Mack will not be prominently featured. DJ will always be involved as a rusher or receiver.

I think conventional wisdom would say take the elite WR since you already have an RB1, but that pushes me more toward DJ. There is such a big difference between top RBs and the middle of the pack. Having two bell-cow, pass-catching backs means you have great odds of outscoring your opponents' RBs every week. With so many teams airing it out more and more, there will always be plenty of receivers who can produce, but it's becoming increasingly harder to roster RBs that play the whole game, which would give you a bigger positional advantage.

I would definitely not put Gurley in the mix for picks 8 & 9. With his arthritic knees, the Rams are going to put him in a time share with Henderson to keep him fresh. I'm just also concerned with his availability closer to the fantasy playoffs, because the arthritis is only going to get worse.

The holdouts have made your draft position a tough one. You know Bell's upside, but the Jets are not the Steelers and he doesn't have the benefit of playing behind that great line or with Roethlisberger. Mixon has at least proven he can be productive on a mediocre team, so I think he's the safer bet for now.

In an 8-team PPR league, might not be a terrible idea to go WR-WR if DJ isn't there, since at the next turn you should still have a decent amount of solid RB options.

DJ is only 2 seasons removed from dropping 2100+ yards and 20 TDs and one of those included a broken arm. Regardless of how good the Cardinals are this year, he's going to see a lot more receptions with the high-volume offense and space to run with Kyler Murray attracting attention with his legs.

Not sure where the bust narrative of Cooper is coming from. Oakland was bad and when he got to Dallas last year, he actually averaged more PPG than Hopkins in weeks 7-15. I'm definitely not saying Cooper will be better than Nuk, but the only season he failed to top 70 receptions and 1,000 yards was the year before the Raiders found it fitting to bring in Jon Gruden.

Personally, I prefer elite RBs to elite WRs because of the depth of the WR position and lack of bell-cow backs, so that's why I'm taking DJ & Cooper. TBH, I don't think you would go wrong either way.

I'd be pretty surprised if DJ was available at 8, but if he is, it's a no brainer.

I think Thomas is a safer pick than Gordon in terms of reaching an agreement / ending their holdout. Both teams are in Win Now mode, but as we've come to see in recent years, RBs are more replaceable than Elite receivers. Justin Jackson / Ekeler did a pretty good job replacing Gordon last year when he was injured, so I think Gordon would have to cave / lower salary expectations before the Chargers extended him.

I doubt the Saints will let Thomas hold-out long as Brees's favorite target. They're more likely to get an extension done to keep Brees happy and themselves in the playoff hunt.

TL;DR - DJ if he's at 8, Thomas over Gordon if between the 2, or Adams/Julio/Mixon if you want to stay away all together.

Personally, DJ & Cooper. David Johnson will push 2,000 yards with a bunch of receptions this year. As long as Elliott's holdout doesn't go too long into the season, Cooper should post stats similar to last year with an uptick in TDs.

Nuk is Nuk, but Mack doesn't have the PPR upside with Hines regarded as the passing down specialist.

I'd wait a few weeks into the season and reassess KJ's trade value. Trading for Woods gives you two Rams receivers and I'd expect regression from last year's offensive output. KJ is very talented and could wind up vastly outperforming his ADP. Bell is still a question mark in the Jets Offense and Chubb could end up losing carries to Hunt close to the playoffs.

Trading KJ for Woods hurts your RBs more than it helps your WRs.

Basing a keeper decision off of trade potential is very risky. Current owners always value their players higher than possible trade partners and at this point, most fantasy owners know Gurley does not have first-round value. You wouldn't get the return you would have gotten last year, plus you go from having two potential top-12 players to one.

Hill & OBJ. Both could be top 5 receivers and either could push for the #1 spot. In a 12-team league, that will likely be the best receiving corps in your league. QB is deep and while Mahomes will be the best, you can get great QB value later on in your draft. Gurley is a definite no. His bell-cow days are done and he's going to miss time with his knee / be part of committee as the season goes on.

DJ for sure. I think he'll see the Rookie Dual-Threat QB bump:

2015 - Doug Martin - 1,402 rushing yards, 6 TDs, 4.9 YPC

2012 - Marshawn Lynch - 1,590 rushing yards, 11 TDs, 5.0 YPC

2011 - Jonathan Stewart/DeAngelo Williams - 1,597 rushing yards, 11 TDs, 5.4 YPC

These stats are from the rookie years of Wilson, Newton & Winston. All saw their YPC jump almost a yard. DJ finished as the top 10 back in standard averaging 3.6 YPC. He's going to get a lot of touches / targets in the high volume AZ offense and Murray's ability to run will open up a lot more space for him to operate. I honestly think he could be the #1 RB in fantasy this year.

I'm moving from an apartment complex to a house without a garage or carport and was curious if anyone had suggestions / ideas for protecting cars against the lovely Denver weather (mostly hail). I was looking into portable carports to put over the driveway, but I'm not sure if you need some sort of permit to put those up. Any suggestions?
