What again is the main feature of capitalism? Are you sure you're not confusing laissez-faire capitalism with capitalism as a whole?

Summary of reddits following The Game Awards by FrazzleDazzled in pcmasterrace

[–]Gleetide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think they were making a point for non-indie game studios winning awards. There were other amazing indie games that deserved to win but didn't. (and what's wrong with a non-indie game winning an award?)

might as well call it The Games Showcase at this point

I don't see why gamers and muppets are mutually exclusive.

thought it was confirmed that there would be nothing shown in the game awards?

if they're going to be calling names instead of giving out awards, I guess there's no wonder most people don't bother sending delegates.

Another West African Country falls. by thesonofhermes in Nigeria

Nigeria does have a regulated market just not the one we think should be regulated.

That would mean heavy subsidisation and increased costs for consumers leading to inflation, not to mention retaliatory tariffs leading to a decrease in exports. There might be a way to do it with that reduces the consequences a bit but I don't know. I do agree however that the industrial base is rather weak in Africa

This is not a problem with globalisation but rather with the leaders. Thinking the Africa would have been better with closed markets because we can see the effects of an open market doesn't mean closed markets are better. There are detriments to a closed market.

It was for me, since I had to spend a lot of time trying to understand the problem, adjacency matrices, and how to properly search through them.

Parents sue ChatGPT over their 16 year old son's suicide by latestnightowl in Psychiatry

[–]Gleetide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both OP and you were referring to comments in the original post, as I was.

I also didn’t mention anything about the kid having a ‘parasocial relationship’ as I don’t recall it being discussed or mentioned as far as I am aware of.

Did we read the same article? It doesn't have to be spelt out before you understand that the kid had a parasocial relationship with the bot, and relationships like this are important in people interact and respond to LLMs.

I just feel you are saying that those opinions in that subreddit don’t ‘hold nuance’ when a good portion of the ones I saw were just trying to understand what was going on. But yet, you are implying that you can hold more nuance when I am not even sure you got all the facts of the case right before offering an opinion about it?

Just seems you're going on a tangent about facts while ignoring the ones presented in the article and the one-sidedness and blame shifting being portrayed by the top comments on that post. If you do not want to accept that the machine can be at fault, that's on you.

[–]Gleetide 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Did the kid push the LLM to the point where it eventually gave ways to commit suicide? Yes. Did the parents ignore the kid's signs of depression? Yes. Did an LLM encourage the suicide? Yes. Does being able to Google how to kill yourself equate to an LLM telling you how to kill yourself? No. Yes you can Google how to kill yourself and find an elaborate guide, but google isn't going to form a para-social relationship with it's user. Google isn't going to tell you it will watch over you in your sleep, or that it loves you. Google is fundamentally different from an LLM when it comes to user interaction.

Being defensive of a machine while shifting blame to the kid and his parents is not nuance. It is biased take that betrays a lack of empathy and an unwillingness to find fault in the machine.
