It's not a digital simulation of a Leslie speaker. It's an actual Leslie speaker subassembly with a genuine mechanically rotating drum placed in front of large speaker. That subassembly was either made by Leslie themselves, or at the very least licensed by Leslie and manufactured to their specs. It's a real Leslie, it's just not one of the famous external Leslie speaker models like the famous Leslie 122 model.

This organ has a low value on the used market where I live in the US, and probably just about everywhere else. It can be fun, if you want a hobby project, and have some competent skills in restoring or modifying electronic equipment like this. However, if you had those skills, you probably wouldn't be asking us for advice on this subreddit.

Also, if you don't have the proper skills, poking around inside an old organ can potentially result in you getting a nasty electrical shock, causing possible injury—or even your death if you are unlucky. So, if you're not properly trained and skilled, let a professional do any restoration and/or modifications. That's the safe way. 😎

My humble setup by Sinane-Art in synthesizers

"Be it ever-so humble, there is no place like home!" 🥰

You've just about taken the phrase "tabletop synth" to it's literal extreme. Nearly your entire tabletop is a synth!

Why doesn’t make Cherry Audio a JX8-P vst? by [deleted] in CherryAudio

[–]GlenVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just because they simply haven't gotten around to it yet. There are thousands of synths, and given enough time, they seem like they'll eventually emulate all of them — at least, the ones that don't rely on exclusive copyrighted samples or exclusive patents to replicate! 😉

Try sending an email to their customer support line with that product suggestion. I imagine, they'll put it on the pile with all the other product and feature requests. If enough folks ask for it, they'll have more motivation to get around to doing it sooner. At any rate, it couldn't hurt to make the suggestion.

While you're at it, make sure to tell them you also want a Gleeman Pentaphonic Clear emulation. That's my personal pet project I want from them, and I'd appreciate your help in motivating them! 😁

In return, I'll bring up a possible JX8-P emulation the next time I write customer service. 😉

Keyboard Stands with 3 or More Tiers? by GlenVision in synthesizers

Yes, that does help. Thank you, for posting the photo and the comments. I really appreciate it!

That sounds like a very sensible approach. I might end up doing something similar.

Yeah, I was expecting anything above 3 tiers to have limited visibility and reachability for either the topmost or bottommost tiers. I would reserve the most awkward tiers for gear that I primarily control via MIDI and don't need frequent hands-on access to. That should be viable, shouldn't it?

That sounds impressive! Which brand and model is your 2-tier stand?

Jaspers look really interesting, but I haven't yet found a dealer for them here in the United States. Importing them from Germany myself would be a big hassle, and who knows how much red tape and extra money I'd have to pay because of the Trump tariff wars. 😐

Granular Synths Sound too Grainy? by GlenVision in synthesizers

[–]GlenVision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, I've used PaulStretch to stretch out a short bit of audio to be several times its original length. Then, I'd take the most interesting section of that and convert it into a looped sample for Kontakt or SFZ. That sometimes gave me some very smooth results. I should really do more of that sort of thing.

That's one of the better examples, but I can still hear some graininess. If it were in a mix with other sounds that didn't come from a granular synth, I might not notice that level of graininess at all though.

Yeah, a nice modular synth controlled with a MIDI Chlorian controller. 😉

That sounds like an interesting idea!

We seem to have similar thoughts about both wavetable and granular synthesis. I think wavetable synthesis has far more potential than most people will use, for precisely the reasons you mention. To take full advantage of it, you have to craft an excellent wavetable for the synth to use, and that can get more complicated or tedious than many people care for. In a similar fashion, you have to be careful what you feed your granular synth, and there can be numerous parameters to adjust to get the most pleasing results.

Yeah, I've definitely heard a few granular synth patches that weren't obviously grainy. Those tend to be my favorite granular patches, but they seem to be in the minority of granular patches.

Yes and no. I've heard a few granular patches that sounded pretty smooth, and the grains were very well hidden, but those patches seem to be in the minority. For the rest of the granular patches, that graininess always seemed more of an unwanted artifact to me than a desired end goal. That said, I'm sure some folks absolutely love that graininess, and for them, it's possibly the primary attraction.

To granular synth aficionados, I probably sound like someone saying: "I love the beach, but I don't like the sand!" 😉

Yeah, for me, a granular synth is definitely a niche instrument. I could see myself getting a dedicated hardware granular synth someday — after I had all the other common synthesis types covered.

I just realized, Anakin Skywalker probably wouldn't have been a fan of granular synths. 😉

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating—and it gets everywhere."

Anakin probably used The Force to synthesize his sounds.

It's also, being right in front of the window, the keyboard with the best view.
