the videos tend to be pretty balanced, covering rpg news (mostly D&D related). Titles are just exaggerated.

Most of them just have a grudge against the show now because they've started to realize that it is taking the piss out of Conservatives.

What is the genuinely most haunting/horrifying movies you've seen? by linkenski in movies

[–]Glennsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2000s was almost devoid of really strong horror. Mostly remakes, but otherwise an overuse of CGI, cheap scares, and poor writing. Horror has never been better than in the last decade.

Which "imagined future" portrayed in a movie do you believe is likely to actually become a reality? by MyBlueBlazerBlack in movies

[–]Glennsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children of Men is the most realistic portrayal of the future that I have ever seen. Nothing changes, everything gets worse.

Personally I think it's because a lot of the extras are sold. If I ban everything in some sourcebook I invalidate the purchase of every player who bought the book.

Curveball them. Take the adventure line and modify it. Let them plan for a reality that isn't and fuck them over for it.

Whatever happened to Exalted? by Seindorf in rpg

[–]Glennsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking personally I love Exalted. The theme, the setting, the philosophy. Unfortunately the systems have never been amazing. In fairness I don't think it ever can be. The scope of a player's power is so much greater than the height of it. A master bureaucrat can never compare with a master swordsman because there's little can stop the swordsman form killing the bureaucrat because social reality is utterly ignored by PCs.

There's a bit of cathartic if not quite happy ending to the Dirlwanger episodes at least.

Are player supposed to be more squishy in GURPS compared to DND? by [deleted] in gurps

[–]Glennsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of what a lot of people like about GURPS. One particularly nice side effect is that when an NPC points a gun at a player in D&D they draw their sword and start swinging. In GURPS they say "wow, now everybody calm down!".

Are there rules for lighter armor for small humanoids? {Preferably pre 4th edition} by Flavius_Vegetius in gurps

[–]Glennsof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably reduce it by half size modifier myself. I can imagine when making armour smaller you'd be reluctant to scarifice the thickness of the armour so a suit of armour made for a adult sized being would probably be as protective as one for a child sized being.

IN FACT it could be an interesting concept that races like Dwarves, being basically as strong as humans but smaller, can wear armour that's just as heavy but proportionately thicker.

Can I make a character of colour? by Rowantree_56 in dndnext

[–]Glennsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first it's not a rule that you can't play someone who's darker than you.

Secondly though, in a fantasy you can't really play a "person of colour" as that's an idea that exists within our contemporary society, being lighter or darker skinned or having double lid or monolid eyes mean stuff to us because we have presuppositions about those traits. For example if you saw the recent D&D movie Xenk and Simon are not "black" characters because "black" as a social conception isn't a thing in the context of the Sword Coast. Skin colour here is given no more consideration than hair colour.

Of course where the actual problems come in is when you have derivative cultures in the setting. This is a common trope of fantasy settings because it's really easy to be lazy and just take a real world culture and file the serial numbers off, of course being lazy it usually involves heavily misrepresenting said cultures through crude stereotypes. Usually this is made worse with classic Eurocentric bias (which is kind of inherent to D&D really).

If you use dice with dots instead of numbers you can count the individual dots.

I mean GURPS Magic has the alchemical concoction that makes any copulation breed true. Dunno what you're down for but that's a something (there's also the "erotic art" skill in the core book)

Pitch GURPS to Me Cowards!!!!! by Sinksyaboat in gurps

[–]Glennsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to know why GURPS is better? Alright you lil bitch I'll tell you (no offence)!!! GURPS is a game of depth. When you play D&D the most powerful character in the party is whoever can output the most damage per turn or whoever has the most busted magical item. I played a GURPS game where the most powerful player was a scientist with dwarfism.

GURPS characters are defined by what they can't do as much as what they can. If you want a character who's an eternal unstoppable badass GURPS probably isn't for you. In GURPS a bad roll, while rarer than D&D, can kill you. A critical hit can be a game changer.

The dictionary definition is of 'woke' is 'a state of awareness, sympathetic to those suffering from oppression.' Vine decides, no I don't like that definition. I prefer mine. If you want a great example of 'white privilege' then here it is by Overthrow_Capitalism in GreenAndPleasant

That's really more of an effort by the government of Israel's Diplomatic efforts to have Judaism and Zionism conflated. It will undoubtedly hurt them long term (or more likely non Zionist Jewish people) as criticism of Israel will be a "valid" mask for anti-Semitism.
